Chapter 53 - 53 An Odd Feeling
53 An Odd Feeling
Zhao Chuchu’s lips twitched a little upon hearing that. “Do I come across as someone who does that to you?”
Xie Heng crooked his finger at the sawdust on the tip of her shoes.
Zhao Chuchu was at a loss for words after lowering her head to look in the direction he was pointing at.
Those pricks would rather spend their time chasing that family out but couldn’t even spare a little time repairing the door! It was broken with just a kick!
“I didn’t do it.” Zhao Chuchu went on. “I just stepped in and fought against injustice, that’s all.”
Xie Heng put on a light smile on his face.
“What do you think of Zhao Guitang?” Zhao Chuchu asked, attempting to change the subject. “I plan to re-attach the bones of his legs.”
Xie Heng responded, “Was he kicked out of the house?”
“Yes. How did you know?”
“The Zhao clan had always been a bunch of selfish and vicious people. You should do whatever your heart tells you so. I’ve got your back.”
After some pondering, Zhao Chuchu filled him in on the incident of her meeting with Qiao Heting the day before.
“Qiao Heting?” Xie Heng was a little surprised at the mention of that name. “Have you met him before this?”
“No.” Zhao Chuchu knew Xie Heng was trying to test her. “You are the first person I know, Da Lang. You seemed to know Qiao Heting well.”
“No,” Xie Heng denied. At the very least, he did not know Qiao Heting at that point yet.
Zhao Chuchu peered at Xie Heng. She had a feeling that the latter was hiding something from her, though she didn’t have the proof.
After all, it was not her forte to read the thoughts of the others, especially Xie Heng’s.
Once in a while, this young man would display ruthlessness, like one who crawled out from a mountain of bloody corpses. Yet, he was merely more precocious and perspicacious than people of his age most of the time.
Xie Heng reminded, “You should stay away from Qiao Heting to avoid getting into unnecessary trouble. I don’t think being the nephew of a magistrate is his only identity.”
“Alright. Got it.” Zhao Chuchu nodded. “I’ll go and see Zhao Guitang for a while.”
“Although Zhao Guitang obeyed his mother out of blindness, his nature isn’t bad. However, you should make sure that he cut ties with Old Madam Ma and the others before you make him work for you.”
Zhao Chuchu bowed her head.
With that, Xie Heng shared the names of those with whom Zhao Chuchu could build relationships at Lengshui Village and allowed her to make her decision.
He closed his eyes to rest after he was done speaking.
Gazing at Xie Heng, who behaved like that, Zhao Chuchu couldn’t help but feel that he looked like an elderly man.
But he was just a handsome teenage boy, though!
After brushing off the bizarre thought, Zhao Chuchu packed some stuff and headed to Zhao Guitang’s.
“Reattaching the bones will be excruciating. You need to endure the pain.” After Zhao Chuchu finished the preparation work, she stood at the bedside and stared at Zhao Guitang.
“Okay.” Zhao Guitang nodded.
Then, Zhao Chuchu made Madam He and Zhao Meilan leave the house.
Both of them were brimmed with anxiety.
A while later, Zhao Guitang’s agonizing shrieks could be heard from the inside.
The two of them nearly stormed into the house upon hearing the screeches.
The people who resided there were of the Zhao clan. So, they hurriedly headed toward the source of the sound after hearing the clamor.
Some of them immediately rushed back home to report after knowing that Zhao Chuchu was treating Zhao Guitang’s legs.
In no time, the Zhao clan head brought Niu Tongsheng while the other clan members encircled the decrepit house.
“Putting the event of Zhao Chuchu breaking her uncle’s legs aside. To think that she would inflict more pain on Guitang now. Is she a human? You are the chief! You’d better be giving us a fair explanation today!” The clan head glared at Niu Tongsheng intensely.
“That’s right. You need to give us a proper answer.”
“If you still play favoritism now, we would need to have a hearing before the village chief.”
“Zhao Chuchu should be beaten to death for being such an inhuman evil!”
…
Naturally, Zhao Chuchu could hear the uproar outside the house.
Those who broke the man’s legs thought they could get away by luck and refrained from mentioning the confession they signed.
Zhao Guitang lost consciousness from the pain, while Zhao Chuchu did not stop working with her hands.
In the meantime, some people started banging on the door.
