Chapter 51 - 51 Selfish and Vicious
51 Selfish and Vicious
Zhao Chuchu evaded sideways with a nimble movement.
“You really are a jinx! Our house doesn’t have enough fortune left to cure your legs! It is either you get the heck out of this house or wait to die!” A voice bellowing sharply could be heard. “You good for nothing! To think that you couldn’t even handle such a simple task!”
“Mother, it was you who coerced Guitang into snatching from Chuchu. Now that Guitang’s legs are injured, what will happen to us if we don’t send for a doctor?”
“That’s none of my business! In any case, you shall leave here and live by yourselves from now on! You impudent bitch! How dare you talk back to your mother-in-law? I shall see how you will be beaten to death today, you shameless, accursed woman!”
“Ah…”
“Boohoo. Please stop hitting me, mother. Please stop…”
A cacophony of fracas, shrieks, and wails filled the scene, causing Zhao Chuchu to furrow her brows at the sound of it.
Zhao Guitang’s father, Zhao You, was the younger brother of Old Man Zhao.
In that case, Zhao Guitang was the uncle of the original owner of her body.
Zhao Guitang had always been a decent man. Hence, she wondered why Zhao Guitang would join in with the party of the muggers at that time.
So, it turned out that he was pressured into doing that by his heartless mother.
“I see. No wonder,” thought Zhao Chuchu.
With that, Zhao Chuchu kicked open the door of their house.
The chaotic courtyard immediately turned dead silent.
Then, everyone turned their eyes to Zhao Chuchu, who just made a scene.
As Zhao Chuchu stared down, she saw Zhao Guitang lying on the ground covered in grime and his wife and daughter, who were rolling on the floor as they were getting a beating from his ruthless mother. Meanwhile, his brothers remained on the sidelines, peering down at them with a snicker.
Zhao Chuchu frowned at the sight of it.
“What are you doing here? Are you still thinking of snatching the money?” Old Madam Ma jumped to her feet instantly. She was her big aunt, Madam Ma’s aunt.
Zhao Chuchu disregarded Old Madam Ma and turned her gaze at Zhao Guitang. She asked, “Was it your decision to rob my money, or were you forced?”
“This is our family matter! Don’t poke your nose into where it doesn’t belong! And you’d better listen, Zhao Chuchu! A vicious woman like you will receive divine punishment one day! Just you wait!” Old Madam Ma placed her hands on her waist and lambasted.
Zhao Guitang’s daughter, Zhao Meilan, kneeled on the floor and bawled, “Sister Chuchu, it wasn’t my father’s intention to rob you, but it was my grandmother who forced him to do so, threatening to divorce my mother if he refused to abide. Please, let my father off the hook. Please, don’t hit him anymore.”
His wife, Madam He, sitting on the ground with disheveled hair and tears rolling down her cheeks, begged, “Chuchu, I know Guitang did you dirty, but could you please let him off, seeing that I haven’t treated you poorly before? Life is too hard on us right now.”
“Are they kicking all of you out of the house?” Zhao Chuchu questioned.
“They said that Guitang had become an invalid and that they wouldn’t take care of a freeloader. So, they want us out of their household. Now, they are making us leave.”
Zhao Chuchu remained taciturn upon hearing that.
Although she already knew that the Zhao clan members were a group of cold-blooded people, it never crossed her mind that they would even be merciless toward their son.
Zhao Chuchu walked toward Madam He, helped the latter up, and whispered in her ear, “It’d be better for you to accept living independently from their household if you wish to heal your husband.”
“I have never crossed you before. Why are you doing this to me?” Madam He was terrified.
Old Madam Ma burst into laughter upon seeing that and remarked, “Here, I thought you came here to show some kindness! To think that you would rub salt into their wounds, you surely didn’t come across as someone even more atrocious than that devious old hag, Madam Yang!”
Madam He was shivering.
Meanwhile, Zhao Meilan glared at Zhao Chuchu intensely.
Nevertheless, the former was stunned the moment the latter winked at her.
Leaving them no time to react, Old Madam Ma immediately ordered her sons to carry Zhao Guitang to the dilapidated old house.
“Be grateful. Mother said that you didn’t have to support the family anymore.” The words of Zhao Guitang’s brothers were spoken in an emotionless way, as though they were talking to a stranger.
At that, Zhao Guitang howled his lungs out as he pounded the moldy old bed plank unceasingly, while Zhao Chuchu glanced at the discomfiting sight.
