The Blue Eyes

Chapter 9 - BLUE'S BLUE AURA

People had their own internal clocks. It kept counting the seconds, the minutes, the hours, the days, the weeks, and the years. It continued to monitor the time, but time also had its way to fly away without wings. They said that "time flies," and that was true.

The days kept changing. Time did not want to rest at all and continued to go along with the rotation and revolution of the Earth. Days changed to nights, and nights changed to days.

"There are only three months left before my birthday. I'm not ready to leave the orphanage, and I'm also not ready to part with Brother Kevin," Blue mumbling to herself after her internal clock counted the number of days left before she officially turned 17.

Ah, talking about Kevin, she didn't see Kevin for more than a month. The handsome man only called her last month to let her know that he had to go abroad for an International Scientific Conference.

["Blue, I'll go abroad for a month or two. You will have your exam soon so you better study hard. Don't go anywhere other than go to school and the cafe. Don't talk to strangers and be a good girl."]

That was Kevin's 'last words' last month. He called her just to lecture her. The young scientist apparently saw her as a flaky kid.

"Don't talk to strangers, he said? I work at a café, and the customers are basically strangers. How can I work if I don't talk to them?" Blue muttered again when she remembered Kevin's words last month.

The beautiful girl was currently walking alone after school. She had just finished the school exam, but she looked very relaxed. An exam was not a big deal for a smart girl like her. She could easily go through the whole series of tests, and she was sure her grade would be good.

It was a shame if a genius girl like Blue had to drop out of school and not go to college after she left the orphanage. If only there were good people who were willing to adopt her, then maybe in the future Blue could become a great scientist like Kevin. That was her dream, anyway.

Her steps started to lead her into an alley that was relatively quiet and rarely passed by people. It was quite dangerous, but the shortcut could save her time and energy to get to the café where she worked part-time. Even though it was deserted, but usually the narrow road was relatively safe to pass. She had always passed that road since last year, and there was never anything unpleasant there.

But today, the 'usually' word could not be applied anymore. In the middle of the alley, she saw a gang of thugs surrounding a girl who was wearing the same uniform as her. Ah, Blue recognized the girl. The girl was Rachel Kustka, her classmate who wore thick glasses and was very quiet. She sat in the back corner of the class every day and didn't have any friends, just like her.

Blue had two choices in her heart; the first option was to pretend like she didn't see the incident and immediately ran away, and the second option was acting like a hero to help the poor girl.

The first choice sounded better for her since it was undeniably a safer and a better choice. A sane person obviously would choose the first option. The second option was unfavorable for her because she didn't know how to fight. She was insane if she chose to meet with a calamity.

But, unfortunately, Blue's conscience betrayed her logic today. Her sanity was beaten up by her insanity today. She hesitantly walked over to the gang, then threw her black backpack at them, accurately hitting one of the thugs in the head.

"Ouch!" The thug screamed after feeling pain in the back of his head. He and his gang then turned to Blue, who was now even more frightened than before.

"Ah, there is another prey!" Another thug shrieked with joy when he saw Blue.

There were five of them, all well-built and tattooed. Blue imagined how her bones would be crushed if the bad men beat her. Realizing the possibility, her feet began to move backward as the thugs started walking toward her. The girl kept moving backward until her back hit an electric pole in the alley. It was when the thugs surrounded her without giving her a chance to escape.

"Isn't this girl more attractive than that lousy girl?" Asked one of the thugs. He was the one who had been thrown by Blue's backpack. It looked like he was the leader. Damn! Blue chose the wrong target!

"I-I don't have anything," Blue finally stuttered. She was very terrified. In her entire life, it was the first time she had been in such a terrifying situation. She knew so well that those five men were bad guys who would likely do something bad to her.

Blue's stammered words made the thugs laugh. The leader then grabbed Blue's chin, forcing the pretty girl to look up at him. "You are very beautiful, your blue eyes are also very attractive. How about you play with us today?" He asked as he smirked dangerously.

Now, the fearful Blue could only close her eyes tightly as if closing her eyes would save her from any danger. She didn't expect that her decision would bring a disaster to her. The disaster came in a form of a hard slap on her cheek.

"Open your eyes, you fool! Didn't I just compliment your eyes? You should be grateful!" The leader of the thugs cried out at her after delivering one slap across her smooth cheek. Oh, no. That cheek was no longer smooth. There was a red mark caused by the hard slap on the cheek.

Blue grew more and more aghast, but she didn't immediately open her eyes. The thugs kept yelling at her to open her eyes, and the yell made her even more cornered and depressed.

When she suddenly felt a hard pull in her long hair, she opened her eyes reflexively. But, right after she opened her eyelids, time seemed to stop as a bluish aura began to emit from her open eyes. The mysterious aura continued to spread until it completely enveloped the girl's tiny body.

The wind suddenly blew hard, blowing the leaves around them, sending chilly air to the bones. The atmosphere became tense, and all living creatures seemed to hold their breath.

Blue's skinny hands slowly moved to grab the necks of the two thugs in front of him, and she mercilessly choked them and broke them in a second. The three remaining thugs were instantly appalled by the scene. They tried to run away, but Blue swiftly tackled their feet, causing them to fall to the ground. The tragedy repeated itself. Blue coldly choked and broke the necks of the three remaining thugs in the blink of an eye.

The five thugs fell with their necks broken afterward. When her blue eyes saw the thugs laying lifeless on the ground, the bluish aura that enveloped her body slowly sucked back into her blue eyes and disappeared without a trace. Her consciousness then returned to normal.

After realizing what she had just done, Blue was scared to death. Her blue eyes looked at the lifeless thugs in horror. Her pair of legs seemed to turn into jelly and lost their support, causing her body to collapse on the cold ground. Her blue eyes were getting wet. She could only cry silently.

Her frail body trembling violently at what she had just done. No, was that her doing? She was completely unconscious when she did it all. It felt like she was being possessed by a mysterious force inside her body.

"No, it must be a mistake. There is no way I could do that." In the deepest part of her heart, Blue kept telling herself that she was innocent.

The girl's head then stiffly turned to another direction where her classmate had somehow been lying on the cold ground. "Did Rachel see everything?" She was nervous to death and quickly stood up.

Her shaky hands then snatched her black backpack which she had thrown earlier. Not knowing what to do anymore, she finally ran helter-skelter to leave the crime scene. Her heart refused to believe it, but everything that happened was so vivid in her memory. She felt very bewildered about what had just happened.

After Blue left the narrow alley, a tall mysterious man slowly walked over to the now-empty bodies of the five thugs. The man crouched down and examined the five of them, observing the scars left on the necks of the five of them. Soon, a small smirk appeared on his thin lips.

After the man finished examining the bodies of the five thugs, he then walked over to Rachel, who was still unconscious on the cold ground. The man crouched again and inspected the girl's body. He checked the girl's pulse and still felt a weak pulse in her body. The geeky girl just fainted.

The man finally stood up again and got his hands on his hips to see the chaos caused by Blue.

"Good, Blue. You created all this mess and I'm the one who has to take care of it. Next time, you have to pay me for this."
