The Blue Eyes

Chapter 43 - CONFRONTATION

After knowing the truth of the accident he had yesterday, Kevin calmed himself down and immediately headed to his next destination.

He felt very angry and disappointed at Kris, but he did not intend to directly confront the werewolf. He would ask Kris about it later tonight when they were home.

Kevin was currently in a taxi. After mentioning the address to the driver, the sedan-type public vehicle immediately sped off through the busy city streets. It was almost noon, and many people were doing activities that caused a busy road.

The vehicle drove for 20 minutes before finally stopped in front of a big building with a big yard. It was the orphanage where he lived in the past. Kevin paid the taxi fare and got out of the four-wheeled vehicle quickly.

His long legs led him to walk across the green lawn. There were lots of little kids playing there, but Kevin just smiled briefly at them while waving. He had to meet someone to talk about important things, so he didn't have time to play with them.

After passing through the large yard, Kevin finally arrived at the orphanage building. Without knocking on the door, he opened the front door of the big building. He was indeed permitted to just enter without knocking on the door. Even though Kevin had left the place for a long time, the people at the orphanage still regarded him as family.

Kevin had arrived in the living room of the building, but he could not find the person he was looking for. Frowning a little confused, he then called out, "Mother?" As he continued to walk into the building, look left and right to find the head of the orphanage.

The scientist had searched several rooms, but he could not find the old lady. Suddenly, the feeling of anxiety ambushed him. He was afraid that the lady was kidnapped by werewolves, just like what happened to Blue.

With a little panic, Kevin walked out of the building and decided to look for the lady around the large orphanage building.

His eyes scanned in all directions, but he only saw the children playing in the yard. He kept running around the building until he arrived at the backyard. That was when he finally found the person he had been looking for.

Kevin was about to let out a sigh of relief, but his eyes caught that the lady he was looking for was not alone. In the slightly hidden back area of the orphanage, the lady sat in her wheelchair as usual, and a familiar man was standing in front of her.

Kevin slowly walked over to them, trying not to make the slightest sound, but it seemed that he failed because the man suddenly turned his head and looked straight at his eyes.

"Kevin? What are you doing here?" Asked the man.

Kevin cursed himself for forgetting that the man had a sensitivity that was far above normal humans.

"I should have asked you. What are you doing here, Kris?"

The man who had been standing in front of the old lady was Kris. Kevin, of course, was surprised to see Kris at the orphanage, especially when that figure was seen in a serious conversation with the head of the orphanage.

"Why does your face look so tense, Kevin?" Instead of Kris, it was the lady who responded. "Come here, Kev. Kris just told me about Blue's disappearance," the lady continued.

Kevin widened his eyes at the words of the lady. He then turned to Kris and gawked at the latter with a look that seemed to be demanding an explanation.

"Mrs. Nierling deserves to know about Blue's disappearance," Kris finally spoke. "I'm Blue's guardian, and I will be responsible for Blue's disappearance. I'm just letting Mrs. Nierling know so she wouldn't worry."

Kevin hadn't softened his piercing gaze at Kris. His heart was still hurt remembering Kris's lie to him. His initial intention was to keep his annoyance at bay, but his unexpected encounter with Kris here had aroused his indignation.

The scientist had no other choice but to walk closer to the two creatures who had a very big age gap. Kevin stood in front of the lady, right next to Kris.

"There are things I want to ask you, Mother," Kevin finally expressed the intent of his arrival today.

The lady looked up at the young man and asked, "What do you want to ask, Son? Why do you look so messed up? You should rest at home. Kris also told me about your accident yesterday. You have to take better care of yourself, Kev."

Talking about his accident infuriated Kevin again. The man glanced sharply at Kris who was standing beside him, but Kris instead glimpsed back with a confused look.

Finally, Kevin turned his gaze back to the lady and said, "I'm fine, Mother. Besides, my accident yesterday wasn't bad either." While glancing at Kris piercingly again, and it made Kris feel even more confused.

"I'm glad that you are fine," the lady replied with a smile as her hand reached out to gently grab Kevin's wrist and asked, "Then, what do you want to ask me, Kev?"

"I want to ask about Blue," Kevin answered quickly. The answer made the lady's smile fade, and her hand let go of Kevin's wrist. "What time was it exactly when Blue was brought to the orphanage for the first time?" Kevin continued without noticing the change in the lady's expression.

"Why are you suddenly asking that, Kevin? Does that have something to do with Blue's disappearance?" The lady asked back.

"I'm still not sure about that, but I'd like to know in detail how Blue became one of the foster children here."

The lady was silent for a few moments. Kris, who was there, just quietly observed the lady's conversation with Kevin.

"I don't remember exactly what time the people from the Social Service brought Blue to this place, but for sure it was late at night," the lady finally replied.

"So, it's true that the people from the Social Service brought me and Blue to this place?" Kevin asked, and the lady nodded her head. "Then, the Social Service must have more complete data about Blue, right?"

The lady's body twitched in surprise. "You want to ask the Social Service about Blue?" Asked the lady. "But, it's been a very long time, and from what I know, the Social Service don't know anything about Blue either. They only saved Blue based on humanity, and they didn't investigate Blue's background."

This time, it was Kevin who was silent and seemed to be trying to digest the words of the lady. Before today, he had never thought about Social Service. He thought Blue's past wasn't important, so the idea never crossed his mind. But, after things turned out like this, he finally had the intention of investigating Blue's background.

"Let me take care of it, Mother," Kevin finally said. "I have to go now. Take good care of yourself." After saying goodbye, he immediately left the place.

Kris was surprised to see Kevin suddenly leaving him and the head of the orphanage, but he then bid goodbye to the lady and ran after Kevin.

The scientist walked very fast, and Kris could only catch up with the man when they arrived in front of the orphanage.

"Kevin!" Kris quickly held Kevin's wrist so the young man stopped walking.

Kevin stopped, but he didn't turn his head at Kris.

"What happened to you? Why are you acting like this?" Kris asked.

Hearing that question, Kevin finally turned to Kris and glared at the young man. "Shouldn't you know the answer? Shouldn't you be able to guess why I'm acting like this?" He asked back.

Kris looked at Kevin with a sad face, and then he asked, "Are you mad at me?"

The question made Kevin laugh scornfully as he responded, "Of course I'm mad at you! How many times have you lied to me, huh?"

Now, Kris understood the reason behind Kevin's attitude to him, and needless to say, he knew that this had something to do with the accident that happened yesterday.

"I have a reason for all the actions I take," Kris finally answered.

"Reason? What reason is it that you keep lying to me?" Kevin asked sarcastically again.

Kris didn't answer Kevin's harsh question right away. Instead, he immediately grabbed Kevin's shoulders tightly and intently looked at Kevin's eyes. He then solemnly said, "I have no other reason than to protect you, Kevin. I hid everything for your good. When the time comes, I will explain everything to you."

Kevin silently met Kris's eyes that looked very determined. This wasn't the first time they stared at each other, but this was the first time Kevin had been able to 'read' Kris.

Yes, he could read the werewolf's sincerity and earnestness through that gaze. Yes, he could read Kris's honesty. The werewolf didn't lie to him this time. It gradually made Kevin's anger melt down.

The young scientist removed Kris's hand from his shoulder and sighed. "For now, we have to focus on Blue," he finally relented.

Seeing Kevin's tame attitude, Kris finally smiled with relief. The werewolf nodded firmly and said, "I think I know where Blue is."
