Chapter 62 The Evaluation (2)
Although this idea was brilliant, that did not mean that it did not come without any constraints. The activation of his <Spirit Summoning> skill was partially automatic. All he needed to do was willing it to happen, and it would, no extra stress, right?
Now, with this little trick, he had to actively control and shape his thoughts in order to give the downed summon an instant rebirth. It used less money than summoning the creature all over again, though, so that was a very good upside to it.
When the rebirthed millipede reformed right behind the tester, a look of surprise briefly flashed on his face before he smoothly twisted around and destroyed it again, and then turned back to the front and killed a couple more millipedes. All this was done in a very smooth motion, which showed off his skill and expertise in fighting.
"Whoa!" Of course, this scene riled up the watching crowd. First, Leon had displayed such a stunning type of magic, and now, the cocky tester was finally getting serious. No one wanted to miss this fight!
Millipedes continued to pour in around the tester from every angle, but he was easily able to keep up with them.
'Hmm, they may be numerous, but they aren't too strong individually.' He thought to himself as he killed another millipede.
Just at that moment, the hairs at the back of his neck stood on end, and he hurriedly leaped backward to avoid a lightning bolt that struck down accurately where he was before.
"What?" His wide eyes drifted over to where Leon was standing, only to see a black skeletal figure standing beside Leon with its arms raised. "An undead mage." He cursed, throwing aside his intention to drag out the fight until Leon ran out of mana. That was the safest method he could use to prevent injuries on either of them, but it seemed that Leon wanted to have a more proactive engagement.
"Alright, then. If that's how you want it." An excited grin spread over the tester's face as the flames around his sword blazed and grew over the handguard, spreading inch by inch until it grew to cover his entire right arm. In the next moment, he dashed forward as the flames kept on growing to cover him completely.
Whoosh!
A clear path of fire was carved through the mass of millipedes, heading straight for Leon. It only took the blink of an eye, and the tester was already in front of Leon, his sword carving a hot path through the air, and right for Kaladin's collared neck.
Clang!
A resounding echo rang out as metal met metal. A thick and sturdy black shield appeared in the path of the flaming blade, saving Kaladin's neck, while also pushing aside the flaming sword.
Nero silently appeared in a nick of time, his eyes flashing with a red glow as he activated his signatue skill, <Furious Slash>. A red corona of light covered his pitch black blade as he struck down, meeting empty air. His shield was up again in the next moment, blocking off a stab from the tester from the side, and a fireball hurled over his head to push back the man.
As Leon and the tester tussled, the vibrant energy in the crowd, along with their loud cheering drew the attention of someone much higher up the ladder in the Mercenary Association.
"What's with the ruckus? It is not always this noisy back here." A silver haired man with a pair of sharp green eyes stepped into the testing area, looking down at the ring below. His sharp features gave him a very serious air, and he had an aura that radiated power without him even trying to do so.
"I believe there is a rather interesting session going on at the moment, Richard." A short, brown haired man with a sharp nose and a pair of round glasses hanging off his nose replied, smartly pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose.
"Hmm." The silver haired man, Richard, hummed and focused his eyes. The fight in the ring below zoomed in his vision and became many times clearer.
"Interesting... Death magic? That is a rare magic type. Necromancers are even rarer than A rank Priests." Richard rubbed his chin as he observed Leon's fight with the tester.
"You sound interested in acquiring this mage." The short man noted.
"Indeed, what do you say, Kevin? Do you thing you can convince him to work for us?" Richard smirked.
"Hmm, I do not know. A Necromancer knows their worth. Perhaps he may not chose to work for you, but with you instead. It all depends on his standards." Kevin replied after summing up some things in his mind.
"Alright then. Let's wait for the match to round up before we approach him." Richard decided and went over to take a seat at one of the furthest seats from the ring so he could watch everything with a clear view.
A couple of minutes later, the match ended when the tester had his blade to Leon's throat. Leon smirked and raised his arms in surrender while retrieving all his summons. He had managed to draw out the fight, and he had lasted a few minutes against the tester. He did not even go all out against this strong opponent, and had not engaged in close combat, so that was a plus. There was no need to announce to everyone that he was good at close quarters combat.
"Haa! That was a great fight!" The tester exclaimed and sheathed his sword with a grin. "I thought you were a close combat fighter just like me when I saw your sword. Who would have thought you a strong mage?" He laughed. "Leon, right? My name is David, we should chat a bit sometime. I'll give you Mid C rank."
"Nice fight." Leon nodded and waved at David before leaving the ring with a similar smile.
