Chapter 530: Starting The Hunt
Izeal's eyes trembled when he felt the connection with his three powerful subordinates get cut off. The connection had already been thin enough that he had not been able to see what they were up to ever since Leon teleported them to wherever he did, but now, the connection had been completely cut off, which meant that they had just died!
'That Leon... How does he do it? Is this why I feel such an attraction? Is he truly the final piece in the puzzle for me?!'
A crazed look slipped into the dark orbs that were the eyes of the Paragon of Undeath as his hands went up to grip his dark hair.
"Ha! Hahaha! Ha hahaha ha ha-" Crazed laughter rang around him as he floated within a suspended, sealed off space. This space had been created for no other purpose than to stall the deterioration of his True Body. He could leave it, but not for long periods of time.
"If I can get him and assimilate his Core into my being, then I will be able to reach it! The Fabled Perfection! I will be able to replace the Nexus Being himself, ascending to an all new high!" Izeal spread out his arms as he floated through the suspended space.
He began to think of how he would get Leon.
"No price is too high! Even if all my subordinates die on the road, I don't care! When I have this universe in my grasp, I can do whatever I please. At that point, I will have as many underlings as I wish!" Izeal's thoughts became ragged and rough for a moment before he abruptly sent out a message to his subordinates.
"I want Leon Cromwell! No cost is too great! I must have him as soon as possible!"
The moment this message went out, although shocked, the underlings quickly did as their master wanted. Hundreds of Gods moved out, stalking as they searched for Datar.
As the bindings of working with the Army of Destruction still remained in place, not all of them could move at once, but there was still a sizeable number of them that could act, which immediately put more pressure on the defenders' side.
Of course, the same way they were after him, Leon also hunted down Izeal's subordinates. It was the typical case of the mantis stalking the cicada without knowing of the oriole behind it. Leon swooped in behind the lone Gods whenever he could, quickly taking them out before moving on and trying to help out the defenders where he could.
It was not long before Leon returned to his Divine Kingdom which remained as heavily defended as ever.
Whoosh!
A flash of dark light lit up the center of the Divine Kingdom, just above the highest spire of the castle sitting at the center. Leon's form appeared and many beings turned their attention to the unmistakable aura that radiated from his being.
When Leon took in the state of his Divine Kingdom, he was happy, but also sad. Happy that it still remained in one piece, but sad that it was now filled with many souls that once belonged to the mortal realm.
The concept of souls was something quite strange. When a person died, their soul would automatically be transported to the Soul Vortex which resided within the designated location that the supreme being of a universe had set. The soul would then be cleansed and remade into a clean slate that would undergo the cycle of reincarnation, becoming a new being that is completely free of their past burdens.
As for what happened to the memories, past experiences and feelings that were stripped away, they would be joined together to form a new state of being. If that person had once devoted themselves and given their faith to a God, then they would be sent to a God Kingdom to become a denizen of that God Kingdom. However, if not, then they would be wiped from existence, ceasing to exist.
Those who were in Leon's God Kingdom right now were the mortals who had begun to put their faith in him in recent times. He could not recognize them, but it did not make it any less sad.
'So many people have already died and this is just the beginning.' He thought to himself. He also noted that the majority of people who were in his God Kingdom were warriors. It seemed as if his meteoric rise had been particularly attractive to warriors in the mortal realm.
A small smile grew on Leon's face as he recalled all of those dramas back on Earth where a person was summoned to another world to defend that world and then the people of that world would begin looking up to the person as he grew quickly and dealt with all the dangers thrown at the world.
Perhaps he was Datar's savior.
"Leon." Nedra appeared behind Leon, a small smile on her face. "Welcome back. You had me worried for a moment."
"Good to be back, Nedra." Leon turned around with a smile as well. "It's been too long."
Nedra was about to say something when she paused, looking at Leon strangely. "There is something... different about you. I can't put my finger on it, but I can definitely feel it." She pursed her lips.
Leon sighed when she said this, but he was not surprised that she had found out. In fact, he would have been surprised if she hadn't found out. After all, they had a soul connection.
The Nexus Being said that once a person knew of the greater scheme of things and the existence of other Universes, and potentially, other Multiverses, something deep inside them would change. It would be like a seed was planted within them. Leon guessed that this 'seed' was whatever Nedra was feeling.
"It's nothing to worry about. I will tell you about it later, but for now, we have more pressing matters to deal with." Leon responded and turned to look at the border of the Divine Kingdom. His gaze passed through the barrier that separated the outside and inside, spotting the large portal that had opened beyond it.
