Chapter 518 Two Faced Saint
Chapter 518 Two Faced Saint
?The forces of the Army of Destruction descended on Datar like a pack of wolves descending on a pen of harmless chickens. Hundreds of massive portals opened in the sky all over Datar. Unlike before where the portals were only concentrated on areas with large population bases, this time, the portals opened indiscriminately, disgorging massive amounts of soldiers that were born and bred for war.
The defenders of Datar bravely met the charge of the enemies without holding anything back. Down in the mortal realm, reclusive powerhouses that had vanished for decades or even centuries suddenly surfaced once again, displaying astounding combat power.
A bald man of average height sporting a long, white beard, floated in the sky, watching as thousands of B ranks, led by several A rank soldiers of the Army of Destruction, charged into the area where he had been staying for several long centuries.
A long time ago, this bald man had left his name carved in the long stretch of time of Datar. He was once known as the legendary Sword Saint!
Silver energy erupted from the bald man's body as his squinted eyes suddenly opened widely, revealing bright silver light. He held up his right middle and index fingers before making a horizontal swipe.
Swish!
An invisible force sliced through the air and the approaching horde of enemies suddenly came to a stop. Even the A ranks in the enemy ranks stopped as they could feel that something was wrong.
"Oh no!" One of them suddenly realized the slightest hint of a foreign energy within his body, but it was too late. The only reason why he was able to notice it was because the technique that the Sword Saint was about to execute had reached its critical point.
Swish!
A silent moment passed before lines appeared all over the bodies of the enemies in front of the Sword Saint. Their eyes froze in horror before they fell apart, their bodies sliced into blocks of flesh and bones that were roughly about the size of a human fist.
"The path of the sword is absolute." The bald man bowed his head once and was about to leave when he suddenly sensed something. He turned in a different direction than where the invaders came from and spotted a fast approaching shadow.
"It can't be..." His eyes opened wide as he waited until the shadow could be made out.
A tall, dark skinned man with a smooth, bald head stopped a short distance from the Sword Saint.
"Sword Saint, you are also awake." The man greeted, putting his hands together and giving a short bow.
"Isaac? You are also alive! But how? I thought you would have been dead by now." The first man, Sword Saint, exclaimed. Not only was his Title, Sword Saint, but he had also discarded his real name and adopted the Title as his real name.
"Bah! I broke through and discovered a secret technique that could preserve my body and soul! Killing me is as difficult as killing a God!" The dark skinned man laughed loudly with his hands on his waist.
"...It has been done before." Sword Saint said blandly. He had long since strived to recreate those stories about mortals fighting and killing Gods, and that was why he had gone into centuries long seclusion. It was only because of the matters concerning the future of the world that he had ended his seclusion. Also, he had felt the restraints that bound him previously loosen considerably, so he knew it would be much easier this time.
Isaac brushed off his old friend's comment and turned to look at the endless portals that filled the sky.
"The world is going through some turbulent times. Let us lend them our aid." He said.
"Aye, my friend. I wonder how much we will be paid for our services." Sword saint said, stroking his long, white beard.
"You are still a money grubber at heart after all these centuries, old friend." Isaac shook his head.
"Of course! Consistency is key! No amount of time is enough to wear down this old rock!" Sword Saint guffawed and pounded on his chest. "Let's go!"
BOOM!
With an explosion of air and pressure, the two of them shot into the distance. Coincidentally, they were closer to the territory of the Cromwell Empire and decided to head there, as there was a considerably larger number of portals there than anywhere else. Not only that, but they could also sense many mortals in that direction as well.
Flying at full speed, it did not take them up to five minutes to arrive at the top of one of the major cities of the Cromwell Empire. The name of this city was Elesburg. It was a thriving center of trade and was the focal point that connected many smaller villages and towns in the surrounding areas. Therefore, it was only normal for the concentration of people seeking shelter in this apocalypse to be quite high in this city.
When Isaac and Sword Saint appeared over the city however, instead of the carnage and destruction that they had both been expecting, all that they met was a pristine town that was covered by a glowing multicolored barrier.
Above the barrier, thousands of soldiers clad in shining metal suits of armor that sported a pair of glowing translucent wings fought in the air against the invaders. Each soldier was at least C rank, and even those of them that were C rank were able to display shocking combat ability!
The B ranks were also present, with each of them being a mobile machine that sowed destruction where they passed. Spells and martial techniques were unleashed with every passing moment, painting the sky with a variety of colors.
Isaac and Sword Saint shared a surprised look with each other. They had not been expecting to find the city in such a pristine state, and they had not been expecting the defenders to be so powerful.
"Isaac, I think we aren't going to be able to get a good bargain here..." Sword Saint said slowly.
