Chapter 75 - Surgery

Chapter 75 Surgery

Cheng Yan’s cold, dark eyes fixed on Cheng Wei.

All at once, she felt the air around her compress, and a heavy weight seemed to be pushing against her chest. Her breathing grew labored as a chill went over her. Cheng Yan sounded furious when he said, “Everybody, get out.”

Despite her fear, Cheng Weisquared her shoulders and made one last attempt to save herself. “Sixth Uncle, didn’t this girl tell us last time that she’d be able to treat Grandma? In the end, she only made Grandma’s condition worse. Why did you even bring her back here? Do you want to get Grandma killed at this rate?!”

As expected, she wanted to push all the blame on Yao Tang

Cheng Yan narrowed his eyes, making his expression look much more frightening.

One of the military doctors bristled under the gaze. He knew they were in the wrong this time, so he sidled next to Cheng Weiand said hastily, “Miss, we should leave for now.”

But Cheng Weiwas determined to have the last word. She turned to glare atYao Tang. “If anything happens to my grandmother, I will never let you off!”

She huffed and left the room in long, angry strides.

The moment she emerged into the hall, Cheng Weiwas immediately surrounded byQin Hao and his men. “Take MissCheng Weibelow and keep a close eye on her.”

“Yes, Sir!”

Cheng Wei’s eyes were wide with panic as the men approached.

Yao Tang tossed her backpack aside and went to check the old woman’s pulse.

As the seconds ticked past, the look of mild concern on her face turned bleak.

At last, Yao Tangreturned the elderly’s hand under the blankets. “I’m afraid it doesn’t look good,” she said in a somber tone.

Cheng Yan frowned. “What do you mean by that?”

“We’re going to have to operate. Do you know of the top expert in neurosurgery? His name is Yu Jing.”

Cheng Yan nodded. “Considered as the grand master in his field, the most sought-out veteran in the world of medicine. Do you need him for this?”

“Yes, I need his help. Cheng Wei… isn’t quite up to the task.”Yao Tangretrieved her acupuncture kit and proceeded to stick the needles on the most important meridians. “I can buy us some time, but you must findYu Jingas soon as possible.”

Hearing this, Cheng Yandidn’t waste another second. He fumbled for his phone and made a call. “BringYu Jingto the Chen Residence at once.”

Yu Jing was a middle-aged man, well into his fifties and rather unkempt. His hair and beard were bushy and covered most of his face.

He had been abducted from a secret laboratory while he was in the middle of research. Naturally, he protested as he was dragged all the way to the Cheng Residence.

“Are the Chengs into kidnapping now?” he yelled as he flailed against his captors. “How dare you snatch people away like mere objects? I was just about to reach a breakthrough with my experiment, you scoundrels! My student, Cheng Wei, must be here, right? I demand to speak to her!”

The other members of the Cheng familywere horrified when they saw the greatYu Jingbeing forcefully towed into the villa. Cheng Yan had truly gone mad! Why else would he manhandle an esteemed personage such asYu Jing?

To make matters worse, he was also an important figure in the current generation of the Yu clan.

The three other doctors were dumbstruck at the sight. To think that the ever-elusive Godly Doctor Yu had actually appeared before them…

The moment was short-lived, however, as Cheng Yan’s men continued to dragYu Jingto the Old Madam’s room. “Let me go!” he thundered as they went. “I can walk on my own, you know! Let go, I say! Ouch, these old bones of mine…”

In the next second, his protests came to an abrupt halt. His eyes slowly widened with disbelief as he stared at Yao Tang. “Mas-“

Yao Tang’s eyes flashed sharply, prompting Yu Jingto swallow the rest of his words.

Meanwhile, Cheng Yanlooked between the two curiously.

Yao Tang appeared to be calm as ever.

Yu Jing, on the other hand, was glancing at Cheng YanandYao Tangwith a meaningful look.

He seemed to have realized belatedly that his arms were still held in vise-grips.

“Put me down, you clumsy fools! I’m already here, aren’t I? What are you holding on to me for?!”

The men looked to Cheng Yanfor orders.

He nodded in assent, and they finally let Yu Jinggo before retreating with their heads bowed.

Yu Jing instantly felt at ease the moment he was firmly back on his feet. He straightened his clothes, his eyes surreptitiously glancing at Yao

Tang.

As if sensing his gaze, she crossed her arms over her chest and took a deep breath, her expression glacial.

Yu Jing’s heart skipped a beat. He averted his eyes and didn’t dare to steal another glance. Instead, he directed his attention to the patient lying on the bed. He was rather shocked to see her current state. “What’s going on? The Old Madam’s condition wasn’t this serious the last time I saw her.”

He walked over quickly and opened the old lady’s eyes with his thumb and forefinger, checking for her vitals.

“I’ve given her a prescription for traditional Chinese medicine. It would have taken care of everything, but someone else thought they knew better and decided to use Western medicine instead.” Yao Tang’s voice grew quiet as she added, “There is severe damage to the meridians in her body.”

Yu Jing couldn’t help but look atYao Tangafter hearing that, but he managed to collect himself at the last minute and turn away.

He picked up the scans that had been left on the bedside table, reading through the data that had been established so far.

It wasn’t until three minutes later that he finally spoke. “At this point, the only hope is to perform a craniotomy, but we need to take the Old Madam’s age into account. This will be a very delicate surgery. I can’t promise you anything. I can only see a 50 percent chance of success, at most.”

Cheng Yan turned toYao Tang. “And you? How confident are you about this procedure?”

She rolled her eyes ever so slightly before looking him in the eye. The trust in Cheng Yan’s gaze was clear and absolute.

“60 percent,” Yao Tangreplied without blinking. She was merely speaking the truth, anyway. Cheng Yan pursed his lips and pondered for one brief moment. “Uncle Yu, please work together withYao Tangand perform the surgery on my grandma. I leave her in your care.”
