Chapter 90 - Who Do You Work For?
The man quickly nodded, afraid of what Lucas would do.
"So then, let us start with the basics. Who are you? What is your name? I take it you are a ghoul.", Lucas asked.
The man quickly nodded. "I am a ghoul. I am a private investigator. I investigate supernaturals for a slight extra. That thing that you have in your hand is not an explosive. It is a tracking device and a sound tap.", the man said as he trembled.
"What's your name?", Lucas asked as he frowned. He took a closer look at the device. It started beeping and a red light on it started blinking.
"You fool. I knew that you would check it.", the man laughed as he suddenly took his hand to his pocket, and pressed a button.
Blast!
The device in Lucas' hand burst into smithereens, creating a heavy blast.
The man himself was also thrown back by the shock, but it seemed that Lucas received the brunt of it.
"Look at the fool. Not even his corpse is left.", the man laughed.
"You know, you shouldn't have done that. Now you pissed me off. It's too bad that we have to change positions again. You are going to pay for the extra effort that you are putting me in.", Lucas' voice rang right next to the man's ears.
He tried to turn around to see where the voice came from, but before he could even react, he felt the wind rush up against his face. He knew that he was moving again, just like when Lucas took him to that alley the last time.
The man was thrown onto the ground in another alley. It was unknown where they were at the moment.
The man looked around with trembling lips. He was clearly afraid of what would happen to him now.
"You know, if you fear for your life that much, then you shouldn't mess with the wrong people.", Lucas said.
"I made a mistake. I am sorry. But killing me isn't the right answer. There are other things that you can do instead. I will tell you whatever you need to know.", the man said, raising his hands.
"Okay. I don't care about who you are anymore. You are clearly just a low level ant who was used. Who hired you? Who do you work for?", Lucas asked.
"I don't know who hired me, but they paid me hundred thousand dollars in cash to tail you, and to monitor what you do.", the man said.
"When you said that you would tell me anything, I thought you meant concrete information. Looks like you don't value your life at all.", Lucas shook his head.
"I really don't know how he looked like. But I am sure that he can be seen on a few security cameras. I don't have a name, but I can get you his face.", the man said hastily.
"What good will his face do? I don't need all that information. To be honest, if that person thought that I would be killed by a blast like that, then that person is clearly delusional and does not know anything about me. What only concerns me is that all of these pests are quite irritating, and everyone should know that if someone offends me, and tries to kill me no less, then there is a fate that is awaiting them that no one can save them from.", Lucas said as he took a few steps forward.
"What are you going to do? I told you right. I will tell you everything that I know. I did. You said that you would spare me.", the man said as he trembled.
"I don't recall ever confirming that I would spare you.", Lucas smiled.
"No-no-nooo.", the man shouted, but then, silence prevailed. Blood splattered all over the walls.
"Looks like there is another scene that I have to take care of now.", Lucas sighed. He reached for his pocket.
"Oh right, I don't have a phone.", he sighed.
He reached for the man's phone, and also took his keys in the process. He used the man's index finger to unlock the phone, and started dialing a number.
"Who is this? We do not accept new customers.", a voice came from the other side.
"Isn't that bad for business Frank? Come on now. You are such a bad salesman.", Lucas smiled.
"Lucas? Why didn't you call me from your phone?", the person behind the phone replied.
"Well, let us just say that it is a work hazard. I have a scene that I need you to clean up. And can you do it a little quickly, please? There was a blast near here, and the police will start canvassing here eventually.", Lucas said.
"Alright. Where is it? And, we only take payment in cash. No more cards.", Frank said.
"Cash it is.", Lucas confirmed.
Lucas told Frank where he was, and then he crushed the phone with his hands. It turned into dust. Lucas then disappeared from where he was standing.
Walmart parking lot,
"What took you so long?", Angela asked.
"The dude tried to blow me up. So I gave him a fitting reply.", Lucas said.
"You killed him didn't you?", Angela asked.
"He tried to kill me. I had no choice.", Lucas shrugged.
"You always have a choice, Lucas. What do we do now? There was a blast over there. The bomb that he was trying to attack to our car, I presume? So, don't tell me you killed him there?", Angela raised her eyebrow.
"I am not a noob at this. I called the clean up crew. Let me just get ten Gs to pay the dude. And I did in another alley, so bought us some time.", Lucas smiled.
