Chapter 400 The Worst Case
Chapter 400 The Worst Case
During that time, he not only went around the entire empire, he even made sure to wipe out all traces of it. Not leaving even a single speck of the empire in the world.
I only knew it later, but I received a message from the empire asking us to stop Azrael... It's not something within our control, though. Rather, it was the prince's fault in the first place. Well, my reply didn't even reach their emperor on time, since the capital had already fallen before I read the letter.
Rather than the empire, we have a more pressing problem than that.
"As expected, they came..."
From the gate to the Otherside, a single god-level demon popped out. Of course, it was an obvious result, since the guard of the gate left its post for an extended period.
Having no choice, Zeshion took it upon himself to clean up the god-level demons that started coming out.
The first day went swimmingly since there was only one demon appearing every three or so hours. However, during the second day, Zeshion began to struggle. The number of demons coming out at once increased significantly!
The pace jumped up to almost two demons every hour!
Zeshion wasn't able to handle them fast enough, so he had to call for help. Thankfully, Ajax was already vacant by then, so he was able to provide Zeshion with some help.
The two gods worked together, making sure that not a single god-level demon could make it past their defenses. At noon, they had to call for one of their god-level monsters each, just to handle the rapidly increasing pace of demons invading. And, finally, that evening, a god-level demon finally slipped through their defenses, causing damage along the south end of the walls.
By midnight of the second day, all four of the god tamers, along with all their god-level tamed monsters, had gathered in one place. The reason? Four to five demons are popping out simultaneously!
With all hands on board, they could maintain equilibrium for a while but were slowly losing their advantage.
"At this rate...!"
Ajax wanted to curse, but he didn't even have time to breathe. The number of god-level demons surrounding their entire team, composed of roughly 50 members, was already over 100!
Furthermore, they have enough intellect to work together, making things several degrees harder to handle.
"Zeshion! Think of something, or else we'll end up dead trying!"
"Shut up! I'm busy too! Blanc, you think of something!"
"..."
Everyone was trying to push the responsibility of thinking of a breakthrough to their predicament on someone else. I, who was watching them from behind, already had an idea.
"Goddess Zeta, come here for a moment!"
Upon hearing my call, despite the chaotic battlefield, Zeta literally appeared in front of me within a blink. I was surprised by her sudden appearance, but this wasn't the time to delay.
"Please excuse me!"
I moved to stand up and placed my forehead against hers. I then began to transfer important information—ones that could help us survive the current ordeal.
"Such a place exists? And those beings... Alright, leave it to me!"
Without asking much, she quickly returned to the front lines, leaving me behind. I coughed lightly, trying to calm down my flushed cheeks. Well, Zeta is a beauty, after all, so bumping heads with her was a little embarrassing.
Anyway, I watched as she began to prepare for the plan I gave her. She stood at the back of the group, casting her largest teleportation spell, which enclosed all the god-level demons within range.
"Everyone, back away for a little, or else you'll get dragged in!"
When her warning reached everyone's ears—not only the tamers but even the monsters—they quickly moved out of the glowing pattern on the ground.
"[Mass Forced Teleportation]!"
With a loud shout, the god-level demons that were slowly gaining the upper hand suddenly vanished. Goddess Zeta fell to her knees, her nose bleeding as she panted. Even for her, teleporting a hundred god-level beings was a stretch.
If not for the direction being simple, 100,000 kilometers vertically, then she might've been unable to do it.
"Zeta!"
Zeshion quickly ran to her side, supporting her by the shoulder as they walked back to where I was. Goddess Eta quickly cast healing spells on all those who participated in the fight, bringing them back to full health in an instant.
Their spent energies have no way of returning immediately, however, so they had to drink energy recovery potions for that.
"Master, it's ready!"
Finally, Ember raised her voice, completing the calculations and preparations needed for the plan. Our target: the gate floating in the air!
It was too close to our country for comfort, after all, so we needed to move it somewhere far away. However, placing it too far, like what Goddess Zeta did, was impossible. At most, Ember could only move it a thousand kilometers in one direction. And that would end up using all her energy already.
"Alright, begin!"
After giving the go signal, Ember teleported right to where the gate was. While she was floating above it, she then let the pre-
cast teleportation skill envelop the gate.
"Ugh...!"
However, as expected, the resistance was too great. Ember's effort was almost wasted when her concentration faltered, but I quickly moved to her side and supported her in casting. We do have the same skill, so I could also help her... though I couldn't do it better than Ember could.
A moment later, just as another pair of hands were about to reach out of the gate, the teleportation finally succeeded!
The gate vanished from our country's skies and moved a thousand kilometers further south. Based on what Ember said, that's in the middle of where other god-level demons reside.
Although I'm a little worried about what could happen due to us sending the gate to the Otherside there, we have no other choice.
"At least, we can rest for now."
I sighed, looking over the horizon, where the sun was about to peek already. The third day approached, and along with it, a giant angel was coming closer and closer.
"..."
Sh*t, I forgot about keeping Azrael in check!
I hope he's not here to pick a fight.
I wasn't aware of it yet by then, but that moment, when the sun crossed the horizon and rose to the sky, marked the start of the "Dark Ages."
