Chapter 1040 Prison World War - Part 8
It would be lucky if they managed to open over ten portals across his world in this way. The reason behind having hundred portals trying to open each time was the attempts of his enemies to open the portals fast.
Also they were trying to confuse him, making him mistake their intentions. If he fell into their trap, then he would commit the fatal mistake of thinning out his forces to cover such an astronomical number of portals.
But Arthur wasn't born yesterday. These dirty tricks might fool anyone else but him.
If he fell into their trap and thinned out his forces, then when the real attack would come, his forces would waste precious hours in redeployment.
Even this might put his nearby forces to the main enemy forces at risk of annihilation. He wouldn't desire such an outcome, so he didn't plan on thinning out his forces and spreading them across the large scale of areas where portals appeared.
He even doubted that these portals would really open. If the enemy was as treacherous and cunning as he thought, then they would open the portals at other places where his forces would be the least prepared to defend.
So he gave the order for his forces to stand down and be ready to get deployed once the enemy appeared.
Even if this led to losing a few cities, the end result of this war would be his victory with few losses.
He wasn't an idealist. He knew at any war sacrifices and losses were inevitable. So he hardened his heart and mind, and accepted such losses with cold blood.
Unlike what he expected, it took more than three hours, twelve more powerhouses of his to be sent back before his enemies moved.
The first to happen was the sudden appearance of gigantic portals around his empire world. According to Gege's description, these portals each were enough to swallow an entire city without problem.
And as he predicted, only seven of them opened up and they came in places away from the previous places the whirlpools appeared.
'Move everyone as planned,' Arthur ordered in a calm way. He wasn't surprised like Gege or frightened by what happened.
Even when Gege told him that the portals came with a swift opening and a large number of enemies poured out like rain falling from clouds, he still remained calm.
In front of numbers, he didn't fear facing his enemies. He only feared the number of powerhouses they dispatched.
Removing the powerhouses from the equation made the enemy attack thornless. In his opinion, the biggest obstacle his enemy was facing right now was the lack of enough powerhouses to make things difficult and desperate for him.
Ironically it was also the same obstacle he was facing at the moment.
However after dispatching all of his generals and a few of their elites during the past hours, Arthur became confident about facing the incoming attack of the enemy.
But there was still one problem.
'The places they opened their portals are situated far away from the places of the whirlpool from before,' Gege was still panicked as she said in rashing breaths, 'now we need at least six hours to make the early troops reach each portal. What about the cities around?'
'They will be lost,' Arthur's swift and calm answer came without any hesitation or pause, 'and more will be lost if you don't calm yourself better. This is our world, our turf, our own advantage lies in this world being ours, not theirs. So calm yourself and get a better hold on your panic.'
Arthur's words were short but concise. He knew Gege was acting like the supreme general right now, supervising over that grand and epic battle.
If he had the chance, he would return and kill his enemies first before returning here to play and waste time with that green fire tornado. However he couldn't.
Even if he sent everyone back through his garden world and Gege's portals, he couldn't leave this place himself.
It wasn't the matter of his own estimation or thoughts, he really tried it and failed. When Gege brought up a portal for him to try and get to the garden world, a sudden outburst of green fire attacked the portal and crushed it instantly without any delay.
Gege tried to bring forth a massive number of portals, yet each time the portals were crushed like dried up weeds in front of a brutal firestorm.
Arthur realized from this one thing; this world wasn't left without a watch. Someone was ruling over things here. Despite the fact that this mysterious hidden enemy was keeping off his hands earlier, the moment Arthur tried to sneak away from here that person had to intervene.
Arthur got an idea from this, but it wasn't yet time to implement it.
'Keep yourself together girl,' the golden dragon encouraged, 'it's not like the first disaster we faced, and it won't be our loss either.'
Gege's breathing was loud and audible, but it seemed she was trying to calm down her panic. She was furious, feeling more enraged than Arthur himself.
How couldn't she be? After all, during the past two years and even six months before that, she was the one leading everyone towards building and strengthening the empire with Arthur's absence.
Seeing the empire she did all her best to build and flourish and get this devastation was something shocking to her. In her mind, this empire was like her baby, not least precious to her than to Arthur.
But she had to calm down herself, she kept telling that in her mind. She knew she had no power to change the outcome, she wasn't Arthur after all.
Her only ability, the only thing she could do right now, was to lead everyone and arrange the troops to face the enemies and crush them no matter what.
Arthur wasn't trying to ditch these numerous cities, but he had no other option but to do that. In his empire, there were tens of thousands of cities already.
