Systemless in a Parallel World

Chapter 83 New Pages

'That was a lot easier than expected. I wonder if he was about to cry because he was elated by my offer or because I asked for such a high price?' Zayn thought once he left the biggest trading firm in the city.

His expanding pouch had been emptied of every single gel sac that had been appraised for quality control and the results were outstanding. The quality of the gel sacs was three times better than that of ordinary Gluttony Termites.

If the Lord of Zerek were to find out about this, he would probably be seething in anger. After all, he was the one who signed the mission to kill the Mutant Gluttony Termite Queen who had birthed the Gluttony Termites with their extraordinary gel sac.

The Lord of Zerek wanted the Mutant Gluttony Termite Queen dead because she was not as easily manipulated as the other Gluttony Termite Queen. The mutant version was also more violent, and would simply destroy the surrounding landscape while expanding her territory.

At the end of the day, that temper was also the cause of the Mutant Gluttony Termite Queen's death, but that was only something Zayn and his Spirits knew.

Now that he finished his business in the trading firm with pockets that were overflowing with gold coins, he made his way to the Adventurer Hall. He had yet to be rewarded for killing Glutton.

When he entered the Adventurer Hall, Zayn removed the black cloak and the mask. He revealed his right arm and showed that he was not a Blessed without feeling too bothered about it.

As he stepped up on the wooden counter, he was eyed for a few seconds by a young female staff member until she turned around.

"Silas, the boy you were looking for is here," She announced before walking off. Silas, with disheveled hair, came running over from the room behind the reception. His eyes began to gleam upon seeing Zayn and he walked up to the counter without any hesitation.

"You're still alive. That's good!" He exclaimed.

"I feel alive, that's for sure," Zayn responded while reaching inside one of his two expanding pouches. He retrieved the head of the Mutant Gluttony Termite Queen and put it down on the wooden counter. "I am here for my reward!"

The corners of Zayn's lips curled upward upon seeing the baffled expression on Silas' face, but he waved off his hand after a moment.

"It was not even that hard. When I arrived, there were hardly any Gluttony Termites. Everything was barren," Zayn explained, lying through his teeth, "Are you sure that there were supposed to be tens of thousand of Gluttony Termites? The hardest task was to lure the Termite Queen out of her lair, but other than that, there was nothing really difficult."

He scratched the back of his head to show just how confused he was. Meanwhile, Silas picked the Termite Queen's head up and observed it for a short while before he nodded his head.

There was a frown on Silas' face but he kept nodding his head before he began to write a report.

"Since you have the head of the Mutant Gluttony Termite Queen, you will be given the reward. If someone else were to claim it, you can always say that you have hard evidence that you had the head of the designated target. I don't know who would be insane enough to kill tens of thousands of Gluttony Termites while ignoring the Mutant Gluttony Termite Queen, especially with such a grand reward for a monster that has yet to finish the creation of the first Soulring, but it seems like someone had some sort of plan in mind," Silas explained to Zayn, who didn't expect Silas to believe everything he had just said.

But after thinking about it for a few seconds, Zayn understood that it was only obvious for Silas to think that someone else must have terminated the Gluttony Termites. After all, Zayn was only a Normie, someone who didn't have a special power. He would never be able to defeat an army of Gluttony Termites, or so Silas thought.

Zayn was, obviously, not worried about anyone trying to take his reward. He was the one who had killed Glutton and brought her head, after all! Nonetheless, he felt nice upon noticing that Silas was worried about him.

He cleared his throat after a second or two and put on a more serious expression once again.

"Is there any news about Merlin Kivan?" He asked, hoping that the week he spent outside the city would result in the magical appearance of his, hopefully soon, instructor.

Unfortunately, Zayn's expectations were shattered almost instantaneously.

"I sent him multiple messages but there was no reply. He doesn't seem to be interested, sorry." Silas responded, pressing his lips into a thin line.

"Maybe you can send him a message and inform him that I am a Normie, 13 years old, with a Soulring and a stabilized soulframe of my second Soulring...and that I killed the Mutant Gluttony Termite Queen all by myself? You can just leave out that I didn't kill the Gluttony Termites around since that would only leave a bad mark on my credentials!" Zayn proposed after he thought about it for a few seconds.

He was not sure if that was helpful but he felt certain that it was worth a try. "Even if it doesn't work, I can just look for a different Instructor. It's not like I'm in a hurry, probably."

No matter what, Zayn was much wealthier than he had been before, his Spirits were stronger and he had woven a new empty page and two new written pages in the Grimoire of the Ancient.

He had yet to read through the newly written pages in the hopes of regaining some more memories from his past life. Maybe, he could get his hands on some valuable memories related to a fighting style, or some combat techniques!
