Chapter 62 The Father
While observing the cloaked man, Zayn saw someone with a striking, yet somewhat eerie appearance. The middle-aged man's large black eyes and pale skin gave him an otherworldly and eerie look. His disheveled black hair that cascaded down his back added an impression of insanity and darkness, which was only further intensified when Zayn's eyes fell upon the large black Stigma of the middle-aged man.
It was the same Stigma the Blessed around Phillip possessed. The only difference was that the Stigma in front of him released an ominous black hue that shrouded the entire right arm of the middle-aged man!
However, that was not everything Zayn saw beneath the cloak that revealed bits of the middle-aged man's skin. While it was quite obvious that the man was lean, giving the impression that he was nimble and fast, he was also limping a bit with his right leg. In fact, his right arm which was shrouded by the ominous dark hue seemed rotten.
'Is the entire right side of his body rotting?' Zayn thought, sensing a small shimmer of hope that emerged from the deepest parts of his subconscious.
It was only obvious for him to feel uneasy since the unsettling figure was someone he was familiar with even though he had never seen him before.
The moment Zayn saw the middle-aged man, he instinctively knew who the man was. It was Jarick Cerk, the father of Phillip Cerk, and the leader of the Adventurer Hall's branch in the town Zayn lived in for several years.
It was also the man who was responsible for the invasion of the undead cave. That was what Zayn could tell quite clearly as he took a look around to see the unmoving Goblin Skeletons that seemed like rigid statues of bones right now.
"Controlling the Undead comes with a great sacrifice," He mumbled as his attention switched to the middle-aged man again, who was writhing in pain. Jarick's expression distorted into that of endless pain, which was more than enough to bring Zayn some joy.
It was not too hard to figure out what was happening right now, especially since Jarick had mentioned that his God led him here. Zayn understood that Jarick's God had guided him to the murderer of his son with the help of the Stigma. That was a little bit disturbing for someone like Zayn to know because this seemingly simple guidance showed him just how much the Gods paid attention to their followers and observed everything with great interest.
He had hoped that the Gods were just playing around a little with humans and using them as their chess pieces, but Zayn was not too sure about that anymore.
"You look young and inexperienced but I must have been mistaken. It seems like you know a lot more than your peers, or am I wrong?" Jarick Cerk asked calmly. He didn't look angry or overflowing with wrath by the death of his only son.
However, that was even more unnerving in Zayn's opinion because it was hard to believe that someone could keep their calm while facing the murderer of their own flesh and blood!
Zayn forced himself to keep his calm and to take a good look around himself to create an escape plan. The Sparrow Spirits were flying through the air, which was something he was trying to make use of.
If Jarick was oblivious to the existence of the Sparrow Spirits, they might be strong enough to eliminate the Blessed in an instant by launching a surprise attack!
The only issue was that Jarick was actually capable of controlling the small army of the undead. But that was only more reason for him to scoff at the Blessed.
"To be willing to sacrifice your own life force and let your body rot in exchange for controlling a few lesser existences…you must be desperate…" Zayn mumbled to himself. Jarick Cerk didn't hear Zayn's words but he could tell from Zayn's expressions that he was being mocked.
That was a great surprise for the Blessed, who didn't expect the young Normie to not only stay calm but even have the nerve to mock him. In addition to that, not only were there hundreds of Undeads surrounding him but there was also a Blessed with one Soulring and enough soul particles to create a second Soulring!
How was it possible for a nobody, an ordinary Normie to keep his calm as if he wasn't about to face his inevitable death?
What Jarick didn't take into consideration was that Zayn was far from ordinary. He was currently seated on a Mocalw Bear Spirit, a human spirit was standing next to the bear and another one was seated behind him. If Zayn were to be an ordinary Normie, he would have never been able to get his hands on a technique with which he could manifest Spirits, in the first place.
However, that was not something Jarick Cerk could fathom right now. His only wish was to obliterate the being who had dared interfere in his grand scheme. Zayn destroyed everything and he had to be punished for his actions. It didn't matter what it would take, but Zayn had to suffer!
Zayn didn't really feel as calm as his expression suggested. He could have sacrificed the surrounding towns to survive, but he didn't want to attract too much attention to himself. Some villagers would survive and it was not unlikely that some of those survivors would see his Spirits.
Attracting too much attention with Spirits was the last thing Zayn wanted to achieve right now. There were many things he planned to do, and if it was necessary to eliminate Jarick Cerk to achieve that, he would gladly do so.
Zayn got down from the Mocalw Bear Spirit, and the Herculean Human Spirit followed him. For a moment, he reconsidered retrieving the large iron mace from his expanding pouch and replacing the Dao Saber of the Herculean Spirit with it, but he changed his mind when he noticed the gleam in the dark eyes of Phillip's father.
He unsheathed his silver iron shortsword and his Saber and got into his combat stance. His Spirits changed their positions as well while waiting for Zayn's command to start the battle.
