Chapter 25 Double Trouble
The Human Spirit charged past Zayn when he burst forward to end the Bison's life.
While the Bison was still trying to kill the Pyrat Sparrows that were weakly flapping their wings, a large iron mace slammed down on the head of the Bison.
A loud crackling noise reverberated through the surrounding, followed by a pained bellow.
Zayn was not as fast as the Human Spirit, which was also why he didn't witness how the Bison not just survived the Spirit's attack but even counterattacked.
The only thing he saw was the crushed skull of the Bison and the monster's wasted attempts to kill the Human Spirit. Zayn came forward from the side after he made a big detour around the Human Spirit whose large iron mace smashed down on the Bison once again.
However, this time the Human Spirit didn't attack the Bison's head. It knew that the Bison would die, which meant that Zayn wouldn't be able to devour the monster's soul particles.
Thus, the Human Spirit weakened the Bison further by smashing the mace on the tough and muscle-packed back of the monster moments before Zayn appeared by the side, thrusting the silver iron sword through the crushed skull of the Bison, and killing it in a single blow.
'So fucking disgusting…' Zayn cursed in his mind as he felt the shortsword's blade pierce inside the Bison's brain and cut through it. The feeling made him involuntarily shudder and Zayn could tell that he would take some time to not be repelled by the disgust.
At least, he was still able to kill his opponents, even if it didn't feel good. It would be more concerning if killing made him feel nice and pleasant, which was why Zayn didn't think too much about it.
He averted his focus and was just about to grasp the Soul Wisp of the Bison when he noticed that there was no Soul Wisp, to begin with.
'Is it not dead yet?'
Zayn looked at the Bison, whose body had collapsed on the ground, and as a precautionary measure twisted the blade in the brain of the monster to ensure that it would not suddenly pounce at him.
'It is dead…'
There was no suspicious movement and Zayn stared at the lifeless body for a few seconds before he ended up scratching the back of his head in confusion.
After a while, he diverted his focus from the corpse just to look at the Human Spirit, who brought him two Pyrat Sparrows that were writhing in pain. Their plumage was soaked in their own blood and parts of their body had been squashed.
They were bound to die sooner or later and it was only a matter of minutes before they would take their last breaths.
"How did you catch them? I doubt that you caught them with your mace," Zayn asked curiously and the Human Spirit pointed at one of the burning trees that had been kicked over by the Bison.
"So you found them half-buried underneath the tree…I see…"
Zayn nodded his head and he bit his lip while looking at the two Pyrat Sparrows. There had been dozens of Pyrat Sparrows but they had scattered by now. Their opponent was defeated, their nest destroyed and new enemies appeared.
Their instincts told them to flee, which was exactly what they did, flying away from the new intruders.
"I guess fate brought us together, though I don't really believe in that bullshit," He joked lightly before he freed the two mortally injured Pyrat Sparrows of their pain.
Two Soul Wisps appeared just like it was supposed to and Zayn reached both of his hands out after he put the shortsword aside.
He used Soul Extraction to extract the Soul Essences from the Soul Wisps before he used the bits of soul particles that were attached to the remains of the Soul Wisps to exert the Spirit Manifestation.
Fat drops of sweat trickled down Zayn's forehead and he began to curse himself inwardly for doing two Spirit Manifestations at the same time.
It was a little foolish because it forced Zayn to split his focus equally on the two manifesting Spirits, but he managed to nail the task perfectly.
Pyrat Sparrows were beings with extremely little soul particles, their bodies were small and they couldn't be considered anything special. The data of their Souls didn't even hold a hundredth of information in comparison to the Human Spirit's Soul that harbored tonnes of data.
Thus, manifesting the two Pyrat Sparrow Spirits was less of an issue than expected. Even the link with Zayn's soul was completely formed without any issues.
Two new Spirits were born with less than a third of their former might, not that they had been very powerful when they were alive, to begin with.
"Gray Spirits…well, it was obvious that you guys were below average, but it's still a little bit sad to see that I was right…" He mumbled to himself.
While the Human Spirit's semi-translucent body was white in color the Pyrat Sparrows' Spirit form was gray in color. It was a dark gray tone which clearly marked them as existences with below-average talent. Even after the Pyrat Sparrows turned into Spirits they were below average.
But that was not as much of a problem because the limitations of the physical body didn't exist anymore. The talent of Spirits may show how fast they could absorb the soul particles from within the surrounding, and how strong they could become, but that talent was not related to their physical body anymore. It was their Soul's talent, their true potential that was unveiled through the Spirit Manifestation!
Thus, if certain living beings' souls were more talented than their physical bodies. In that regard, being manifested as a Spirit could be considered a blessing in disguise!
This was a great thing, for Zayn, but not for the Spirits, who had to follow his commands.
Zayn's army of Spirits was steadily increasing in their number but the numerical advantage did not necessarily increase the group's overall combat prowess. In fact, Zayn was pretty sure that the weakened Sparrow Spirits weren't exactly valuable combat assets, for now.
However, while they couldn't fight anyone too powerful, it was still possible for the Sparrow Spirits to create their fire needles, though much weaker than before, and distract opponents while Zayn would be busy scouting the surrounding area.
It was possible to use the Sparrow Spirits as a means to hunt more efficiently, and it was not as if the fire needles were entirely useless.
Zayn had another plan with the Sparrow Spirits in mind but that was something he couldn't do right now.
"Little guys, show me what you got!" He said all of a sudden, throwing the two Pyrat Sparrow Spirits into the air.
They flapped their wings to ascend higher in the air, where they released the strongest fire needles they could manifest right now. It drained nearly their entire storage of soul particles in an instant, but the result was more than enough to make him smirk.
'That could work…'
