“Elder Bai, please check if Ah’Chen is still one of us.”
After Ah’Chen was restrained, the chieftain, Da Shi, then asked for Wu’s help.
At the same time, Lu Chen could sense the intense Vigor gathering in the hands of the chieftain behind him. Lu Chen knew that making any sudden move now would result in the chieftan ending his life. There was nothing personal to this, it was all due to the barbarians’ vigilance toward the Evils.
With the chieftain pinning him down on the ground and restricting any of his movements, Wu came Lu Chen’s side.
He was holding a wooden statue of a wolf’s head and pointed the statue head at Lu Chen. Then, Wu started mumbling an unintelligible chants.
Lu Chen felt a stream of cold air emanating out from the statue head and swiftly entering his body. The cold air scanned Lu Chen’s body from head to toe and during the scan, Wu and chieftain stared closely at Lu Chen.
But soon, Wu noticed that nothing had happened to the statue and he heaved a breath of relief.
“It’s alright now. Da Shi, you can now let go of Ah’Chen. He is clear.”, Wu’s words relaxed everyone in the courtyard. After all, if they could choose, no one would ever want to face with an Evil as oftentimes, that would mean someone would die in the process.
Lu Chen also heaved a breath of relief. Although he was confident, he too was afraid of any unexpected events unfolding.
However, after the chieftain released Lu Chen, a little girl moved her head out behind Wu’s back and peeked at the raw-boned Lu Chen. Then, she murmured cautiously, “Teacher, is it really fine now? Can it be that the Evil is too strong it evaded your inspection?”
Her words immediately made everyone alert again while Lu Chen rolled his eyes to the back of his head.
“If I am that powerful that I can even deflect Master Wu’s inspection, why would I still hide my traces? I could’ve just slaughtered all of you here.”
“Who knows what’s in your mind. Then, how do you explain the loss of meat and muscles of your body?”
The girl was talking back softly, when Lu Chen looked over, she immediately hid herself behind Wu’s hunching body like a timid rabbit.
Seeing that, Lu Chen couldn’t bring himself to get angry with the girl. Clearly, she didn’t mean to pick on him but the timidness in her nature simply didn’t let her to allow having a potential calamity living within the village.
On the other hand, the chieftain and Wu also turned their eyes at Lu Chen. They too were curious as to how Lu Chen suddenly became so skinny.
“Chen, what’s going on. What happened to you?”
“Did any monster attacked you?”
The chieftain and Wu were much more sensible compared to the little girl. They didn’t suspect Lu Chen anymore but now worried that Lu Chen became like this because he was attacked.
To their questions, Lu Chen answered with a puzzling face, “Nothing attacked me, at least, I didn’t see anything. While I was sleeping, I suddenly felt my blood boiling and my skin turn burning hot. Then, a wave of hunger struck me, it was so intense that I felt that I was about to go mad. Then, you all came.”
Lu Chen was puzzled when he explained while the chieftain’s brows slowly locked together.
“An Evil that can manipulate blood? Seems like an Evil really is lurking in the village.”
“Elder Bai, please connect with the Totem and check if there is really an Evil in the village.”
Chieftain Da Shi was worried about the village but the village’s Wu, Elder Bai, on the other hand, had a weird expression on his wrinkled face when he heard Lu Chen’s explanation.
He quickly approached Lu Chen and with a tone mixed with anxiousness and anticipations, he asked, “You said, your blood was boiling and you became incredibly hungry?”
“En.”
“And what do you feel about your body now? Has anything changed?”
But a wry smile climbed onto Lu Chen’s face and he answered, “Master Wuzu, I have no energy at all now. I can’t feel and inspect my body at all.”
“Oh, forgive me. Someone, send Chen to my room. The rest of you, back to your own business.”
As the spiritual leader of the village, Wuzu was highly respected among the barbarians. Moreso when this was a world of fantasy filled with mysterious forces and Wuzu was one of those who possessed such a mysterious force. Therefore, the barbarians were heedful to Wuzu’s command and left the courtyard.
The only exception to that was Lu Chen’s neighbor, Da Zhuang. He was looking at Lu Chen worryingly and he asked Wuzu, “Master Wuzu, what is wrong with Ah’Chen?”
“Don’t worry, he is fine. If I am not wrong, this should be good news!”
“Good news?”
“Good news!”
Seeing the terrible state that Lu Chen was currently in and hearing Wuzu saying that this was good news left Da Zhuang puzzled.
On the other hand, however, Chieftain Da Shi looked at Lu Chen with cautious excitement as he suddenly recalled something at the back of his mind.
“Master Wuzu, do you mean, Ah’Chen…”
“I’m not sure yet. Right now, Ah’Chen has to rest. We will talk more when he has recovered.”
Soon, Lu Chen followed Wuzu to a huge house in the center of the village.
It was a ‘luxurious’ house that had five rooms. In the courtyard, Lu Chen saw many dried herbs as well as poisonous snakes and scorpions in cages.
So this was Wu’s room!
While Lu Chen was looking around curiously, he saw a few young teenagers also inside of Wu’s room patiently waiting.
And the young barbarian Ah’Chen happened to know these young teenagers.
Eldest son of the chieftain, Xiao Shi. Son of the huntsman leader, Jian. And the rest of them are the stronger ones among the younger generations.
What are these kids doing here in a group? Extra training?
When Lu Chen was thinking, Wu said to Lu Chen, “Go and clean yourself up there.”
Then, Wu entered his room to do his own thing after he finished talking.
Before walking to the water tank, Lu Chen turned and saw Wu lighting a fire in the room and putting a huge cauldron on top of it.
Then, Wu collected some of the dried herbs, bloodied bones, and poisonous snakes and scorpions together, throwing them all at once into the hot cauldron. After that, Wu started to dance weirdly beside the hot cauldron.
If one had to be honest, it was quite a funny scene to watch an old man dance, even more so when it was an odd dance.
Fortunately, Lu Chen had already turned toward the water tank to clean himself up and so missed his chance to witness it.
He quickly cleaned himself with the water and brushed himself with the willow branches. After he was done, Lu Chen realized that there was already a new set of clothes beside his rugged ones.
Without hesitation, Lu Chen put on the clean set of clothes.
After that, he walked into the room and saw Wu dancing weirdly beside the cauldron. At the same time, an odd smell filled the room.
However, what surprised Lu Chen was that even though the huge cauldron contained a total mess of ingredients, it didn’t smell that bad after all.
Moreover, upon smelling it himself, Lu Chen somehow felt the urge to drink everything in the cauldron. It was a desire that seemed to well up from deep within his cells.
