Chapter 82: Anger (2)
Chapter 82: Anger (2)
The backline attacked with all their might the horde of Red Fangs that was approaching, and their firepower managed to defeat dozens of them. However, they soon ran out of mana. Those who had potions began to use it, but it was clear that wasn’t enough. Slowly but surely, Luke and Chloe began to retreat, so the backline did the same.
Things didn’t get complicated because the Red Fangs were big, and the streets were relatively thin. So, only a few of them could attack at the same time. Even in their enraged minds, they couldn’t trample their allies to attack the enemies…
“I am running out of mana,” Shalia said.
“Me too…” Rina said.
Luke clicked his tongue in annoyance when he heard. Even though he could kill the enemies with a single swing, he could only swing his sword so many times in a moment. Fortunately, the monsters weren’t using their Flamethrower. Otherwise, their only option would be to run away…
Much to Luke’s surprise, a brown hammer dropped right in front of him after he killed one of the monsters. To make room for him to get the item, he used Flying Kick to make the monster ahead roll backward. Luke grabbed the hammer and then used Weapon Augmentation level four without a hit of hesitation. He began to spin while holding the hammer and hit the heads of the monsters nearby. Much to everyone’s surprise, Luke even managed to make the monsters back down as a whole for the first time.
After smashing the heads of a few dozen monsters, Luke stopped, and the hammer broke into many pieces.

Without a hint of hesitation, Luke allocated those points into strength, and soon he had to make use of that power up. Ignoring the fact that they were going to collide against each other, five Red Fangs jumped toward him. That hurt a little, but Luke used Flying Kick, and after kiting the forehead of one of them, he pierced the eye of the creature with his sword and made it penetrate all the way to the brain.
The other monsters passed by him, but before they could turn around, Luke used Stinger and pierced the nape of one. When the other three turned to face him, they were hit from behind by the guys armed with spears and the archers. Luke turned around and saw a big mouth about to eat his head, but he reacted fast enough to swing his sword and stop the beast by piercing its mouth. Luke sighed in relief when that happened, but then he noticed the air changing around the area. In just ten minutes, half of the Red Fangs had been killed, and the other half finally understood that just attacking blindly wouldn’t help them in any way. So some ran to the sides when the group reached a crossroad.
“I don’t like this…” Rina said.
Some of the Red Fangs finally opened their mouths from a distance and used Flamethrower. While the attack didn’t reach Luke’s group, it still prevented them from attacking. Somehow, Luke understood what the monsters were planning pretty fast… they wanted to surround the group and create a kill zone by using their Flamethrowers.
“Sons of a…” Luke said.
“What is going? Is this something normal?” Chloe asked.
“No… go and protect the backline. They want to surround us,” Luke replied. “You too, Arcanine. Go give them a hand.”
It was a bit risky, but in the end, Luke dashed toward the enemies and then used Stinger when he got close to the flames. An agonizing pain made Luke clench his teeth while he was crossing the flames. It only lasted for a second, but it lasted for long enough to make his body get some nasty burn marks. While trembling all over due to the hellish pain, Luke still reached his target and made his sword pierce the monster’s mouth.
Congratulations! The skill Fire Resistance has leveled up.

While Luke was pulling his sword, he quickly allocated those points into Resistance in order to see if it would make the pain decrease. It worked a little, but Luke’s health still had dropped to half in a single moment. When the other monsters realized that had happened, it was too late. Luke used Stinger over and over, and Shalia fired her Ice Saws to the opposite direction, and she cut the throats of three monsters.

…
While so close to them, Luke sealed their beloved Flamethrower. Without knowing how to react, they gave Luke the chance to cut their throats time and time again while using Stinger. In the blink of an eye, Luke halved the number of monsters that stayed behind, but it wasn’t enough… he could tell that the other groups were about to reach Chloe and the others.
Luke turned around and looked for loot, but he didn’t find anything. In the end, he will have to solve things the hard way…
The monsters dashed toward Luke viciously again, but they weren’t fast enough to keep up with Luke when he used Dash. It took a few minutes, but he ended up finishing the monsters on that side.
Luke immediately looked toward Chloe and the others, and he saw them retreating toward him. However, they were being too slow… Luke could see the survivors armed with shields limping, and the other two groups… only one was remaining. Luke hurried to give them a hand. Only he could stop the Flamethrowers.
“Brace yourself, Luke,” Rina said. “Your body didn’t recover enough, so the next wave of flames will be even more painful.”
Luke was aware of that, but it couldn’t be helped… while protecting his eyes, he dashed toward the flames before using Stinger. The crazy power of the flames made his mind go blank…
