Chapter 40: Compensation (1)
Chapter 40: Compensation (1)
Just raising his left arm a few centimeters was enough to make Luke sweat cold due to the pain, so the idea of using both arms had been abandoned to fight for the time being. Using a broadsword with a single hand wasn’t a good idea, but Luke made it do by paralyzing the zombies with Spark Ball. One of the zombies dropped a mana potion, so Luke stored it on his backpack. After that, he grabbed his materials and then decided to take shelter in the pharmacy.
“I am sure the city will keep standing if I don’t fight the wolves and zombies for a couple of seconds…” Luke said as he entered the pharmacy.
The interior of the place was also a mess, but Luke knew that those places had warehouses where he would find the things that he needed that hadn’t been touched by zombies. Luke found it, and while the warehouse was locked and some parts of corpses were around, he managed to destroy the door with his sword. The interior was completely clean… it seemed that the one who had the keys died first, and the other people around failed at opening it.
“I didn’t want to use this since it would hurt like hell, but I guess I can’t use water from any faucet…” Luke said and then sighed when he grabbed a pharmaceutical alcohol to clean his wound.
Luke also found the bandages pretty quickly and used them alongside the alcohol to clean the wound. He wasn’t the type to try to avoid the unavoidable, so he didn’t waste his time and began to clean it… much to his surprise, it wasn’t stinging that much.
“Ah… it is because my endurance increased,” Luke nodded to himself in satisfaction.
Since it didn’t hurt, Luke finished that task rather fast and then enveloped his left with the bandages. That didn’t take much time either, but Luke knew that he would need to trade the bandages pretty often because of the sweat, the hot weather, and the blood that he was bound to shed even more. After putting some packs of bandages on his backpack, Luke looked around to see if there was something else he could use… Luke found lots of alcohol bottles. Maybe he could use them to burn enemies, but that would take too much time, and he could also burn himself in the process.
Aside from lots of needles, Luke also found a fireman’s ax and extinguisher on the wall of the warehouse. The ax sure would be helpful, but what about the needles… They were too small and frail. However, when Luke tried to use one, he saw it opening a hole in the wall before it was destroyed. The hole wasn’t large, but it was deep enough to pierce a twenty centimeters large wall… its power was higher than that of bullets. Not to mention, it didn’t make much noise while it flew.
After putting some boxes of those on his backpack as well, he left the warehouse and then began to craft the spears again. While he was working, Luke confirmed that two starving wolves had passed by the pharmacy without noticing him.
“I guess their senses aren’t that fearsome…” Luke said.
When Luke left the pharmacy and looked around for enemies, he grinned from ear to ear when he looked toward West, and he saw a bowling shop… that would be helpful. Bowling balls should be considered weapons, but then Luke wondered if that was the case, why stones couldn’t be considered as well? Luke began to wonder if his idea of using them would actually work…
Before he could test that, Luke saw another starving wolf approaching, and the creature looked even madder than the others before… probably because some corpses of their friends were around Luke. Nevertheless, Luke waited for the beast to get close enough, and then he used Weapon Augmentation level two. Much to his surprise, the spear simply broke on his hands, but then three earth spears emerged from the group and pierced the paws of the starving wolf. That was so surprising that even though they lasted for three seconds, Luke didn’t do anything. Only when they turned into dust was when he decided to act.
The beast tried to bite Luke since its front paws had been hurt and were bleeding quite a bit, but Luke reacted fast enough to block the attack with his sword. However, he used both hands, and that made the wound on his left arm burn like hell. In the end, he gained some distance over the beast after using Spark Ball, and when the monster charged toward him again, he used Stinger and pierced the right eye of the beast… without any resistance. His sword pierced all the way to the brain.
You obtained 15 experience points.
You obtained 15 gold coins.
“That was… surprising,” Rina said. “Even though your skill doesn’t consume mana, it seems it can manipulate mana somehow… or maybe it is like the description says, for an instant, the weapon reaches and shows the power that it could have in its utmost limits.”
“Who cares about that? It is convenient and useful,” Shalia said. “You don’t have to worry about anything else.”
Unfortunately, Luke was the type who thinks too much about things that interest him, and Weapon Augmentation was one of them, so just leaving that alone wasn’t an option. Nevertheless, while he had time, Luke decided to check the bowling balls, but unfortunately, Weapon Augmentation didn’t work with it.
“I won’t give up on this so easily…” Luke said and then began to think.
