Chapter 29: Closer (2)
Chapter 29: Closer (2)
When the zombies noticed Luke, they moved toward him. And then, when the first used body slam, Luke swung his sword vertically toward the monster. In the end, he felt a powerful pressure when he hit the enemy, but despite that, his sword strike split the fat zombie through its belly in two.

“Hehe, it is a bit rough, but I can do it…” Luke smiled in satisfaction.
Aiming for the head would be even easier, but then Luke would have to get hit by the whole body. It was better to just hurt his hands a little to stop their full charge.
Nevertheless, the other zombies were quickly approaching, so defeating them with the same strategy would hurt Luke’s hand too much. He needed a certain amount of time to recover… With that in mind, Luke used Stinger and made the broadsword pierce their heads. Their charge was slowed down thanks to the power of Luke’s charge. Still, It felt unpleasant getting close to those zombies.
After a couple of minutes, the corrupt crows finally showed up, and while the stupid birds tried to pierce his head, Luke counter-attacked by using Stinger on their beaks. While that wasn’t enough to kill them, it completely stopped the monsters and made them grunt in pain since that part of their bodies looked really sensitive. Nevertheless, before they could escape or retreat, Luke beheaded them.

…
For a while, zombies kept coming towards Luke. Still, in the end, they were only the ordinary ones, and eventually, he had to search for them beyond his block. While the smell of death was strong, he didn’t find many of them around. Even the crows were rarely appearing.
“What the hell is this? I thought that the number of monsters at night would be much more numerous…” Luke frowned.
“Remember when I said that monsters have good instincts the stronger they are?” Rina asked. “They use that to look for easy targets to grow stronger. Not to mention, there is also the fact that the zombies are concentrating in the exits of the city… since most people would try to escape this place, you will move more of them away from the center of this city.”
It made sense, but to think that the monsters would start fearing him… and only after he killed a few of them. That complicated things… Luke wanted to reach level fifteen before morning but at that rate…
Luke looked around in search of some vehicle, but all of those in the streets were completely destroyed or upside down. He wanted to approach any of the exits, but he couldn’t find any car. While his father had a BMW in the garage, he was stingy enough to take the keys with him on any trip just to make sure Luke wouldn’t have the chance to destroy it while showing off.
“I got it… I will use them as bait,” Luke said.
Luke returned to his house, and everyone was already up. Luke told them about their plan, and so they left the house while Luke stayed inside. Still, only a few zombies appeared…
“I guess the crows can feel the smell of their dead allies… that is why this won’t work,” Luke said.
“What are you talking about?” Amanda asked.
It was a pain, but Luke decided to explain to them while he looked for a truck in the region since they had time. A truck big enough to transport seven people. A pickup would be the best option because Luke would have to fight while they cross the city in that vehicle. In the end, he found one abandoned on a nearby parking lot. It seemed that the owner didn’t even have the chance to use it since the keys were there and some blood could be found in the door.
“Let’s spend the night looking for resources to transport on the pickup,” Luke said. “Grab everything that is clean and doesn’t smell like blood in the residences of the block.”
“I think that it is a bit too soon to try to escape, Luke,” Rina said. “In all of the exits, you will find thousands upon thousands of zombies blocking your path.”
“Are you suggesting him to sit around while other monsters appear in the city?” Shalia asked. “How is that going to help?”
“I am not going try to escape as soon as the sun rises. I will check the possible exists and see which one would be the easiest cross through,” Luke said. “Naturally, I will also fight the monsters and zombies to obtain experience and gold coins. That should increase our chances later.”
Although Luke said that, he truly wanted to escape as soon as the sun rose. Who knows until when the airport will resist? And until when he will find an airplane that can be used? Time was the most fearsome enemy in these kinds of situations… Nevertheless, the group was divided into three. Amanda’s family and Celia’s family were working together since they wouldn’t feel calm unless they stayed close with each other. As for Luke, he began to search for weapons in the houses and nearby shops. While Rina and Shalia couldn’t do much searching for things since they had to stay by his side, they were still there to offer assistance if something happened.
As expected, Luke found many knives while he searched in the nearby houses, and he began to think that he probably could fight without getting close to the enemies with his current focus. The only problem was the fact that those knives took a lot of space, and they became truly heavy once he started to carry dozens of them. Even if they use the cargo compartment of a pickup, it won’t be worth it since they took too much space… Luke had the idea of using bullets with Weapon Augmentation, but that didn’t work.
