Chapter 257 - Unexpected Goal (1)
The area around the central lands was rather cloudy, so after a while, the group managed to hide above the clouds. That being said, they couldn't see the lands below them very well. To solve that problem, Luke used Checkpoint. He jumped from the fortress and then returned once he got a good view of the area nearby. It wasn't much, but he could control his mobility in the air now. Things would play differently than before. Besides, just a little bit of change would be welcome. Billy never wanted to feel like he was dancing on the palms of the enemy again.
After a while, Luke finally found some targets, calling it a coincidence, but the other two overlords were fighting on the same spot. Luke and his group defeated the other two. No, it wasn't a coincidence… They wanted the privilege to hunt those armored gorillas who were at a high level. Even their armor could be used, after all. So, there were many resources to be gained from dominating that area.
Regardless, the overlords of the area were using some troublesome monsters… one of them was using the Baku that exploded themselves when they had the chance, and the other side was using the Frozen Wasps. They kind of counter each other, but that wasn't the real issue. It was the fact that due to their elements, they had completely changed the environment around them. So, they had some certain advantages.
"When they reach that level, even small fries obtain that power, huh…" Luke muttered.
"Things might get messy, but we will leave the elves to deal with both armies while we will deal with the overlords," Rina said.
"You are being a bit reckless as of late," Luke said.
"It is the last push, so we need to try harder," Rina said.
Luke wondered what was wrong with him as of late. He was hesitating too much. Even Rina was improving her way of thinking and becoming more like a queen that truly led her people instead of just being an idealized symbol. Nevertheless, they will have to split the party again to defeat two overlords. After thinking for a while, Luke decided to split both groups evenly. Just by adding Danielle to his party, it would make things almost equal. Richter will have Rachel, Amanda, Celia, and Luthi's support. While Luke will have Rina, Shalia, Danielle, and Sylah's help.
"Remember, your goal is to destroy the red crystal and then the overlords," Luke said. "After that, head to help the elves outside if you manage to achieve both of them faster than us."
"That sounds like a challenge," Richter said.
"You are free to accept it as one, but it will be better if you keep your guard up since you won't be alone this time," Luke said.
Luke couldn't see the point of being so competitive about that. Instead of trying to end it faster, the winner would be the one who survives with all the limbs in the respective places. However, that probably would be boring for someone like Richter.
"You can approach and make everyone jump after confirming that we have landed on the fortresses," Luke said to Luthi's father, who would control their fortress while he was away. "If you go too soon, the enemies will realize about us too soon and we will lose the surprise factor. If you are too late, the enemies will make their troops return and cause problems for us."
Luke already told the other elves how they should fight without them. As long as they keep a defendable level of cohesion, they should be fine against brain-dead monsters. The real issue would be their timing. If they take too long to respond to the movements of the enemies, then they are bound to run into some trouble. Hopefully, things won't become so dire. Still, in the end, Luke was about to accomplish his goal of helping the elves against the overlords. If they die that easily when he is away, then it wouldn't be his problem. He came to help, not to babysit…
After the last preparations had been finished, Luke and Richter's group moved to the extreme sides of the flying fortress. Luke was already used to that, but the others still thought that jumping from that high was beyond reckless… considering their status, they could survive a fall of five kilometers of height just fine and even land while standing, but the issue was with their hearts, not with their bodies. Still, it was a bit too late to give up… even more so when they saw Luke jumping while carrying Danielle on his back. Since she was a pure mage, she could suffer some damage...
After Luke jumped, the others followed him while looking for a perfect place to land near the center of both fortresses. Luke almost could see Danielle smirking while enjoying the fall. It was kind of unexpected. Even though she was a girl, she was reckless. So, it was surprising that she went with a mage build from the very beginning. Her basic endurance, speed, and strength were really low.
"If we fail on destroying the red crystal with the first attack, keep waiting for the chance to do so while we keep the enemy busy, all right?" Luke asked.
"Okay!" Danielle said.
Luke also looked at Rina and Shalia to keep a closer look at Danielle during the fight and focus on protecting her no matter what. Fortunately, as they approached the fortress, it seemed completely empty, so they landed near the main building without worrying about the fact that they might be attacked from behind.
After that, they dashed toward their destination with all their might. Still, they didn't arrive sooner than the overlord prepared himself. He had gotten up from his throne and now was standing between them and the red crystal.. Luke wondered why those guys liked thrones so much… they were just big, rough, and uncomfortable chairs, after all.
