Chapter 38
C38 – His Father Swept Through the Entire Arena
The hefty man flashed a victorious gesture at Jiao Yuanju and declared with conviction, “Boss, you’ve got my support. We’re definitely going to teach him a lesson today!”
Within the opulent service hall of the Black Lava Colosseum, Jiao Yuanju stated plainly, “I’d like to enter the combat pet tournament.”
“Of course. Which tier are you interested in? We offer a third-level beast competition for the general public, as well as a second-level elite beast competition for seasoned Combat Pet Masters.”
Puzzled, Jiao Yuanju inquired, “I’m aiming for the first-level beast competition.”
The attendant replied icily, “I’m sorry, but as this is your first visit and you have no battle record, you must place in the top ten of the elite-level beast competition to qualify for the first-level.”
Jiao Yuanju gestured toward Xi Wenhan, who was being escorted away with reverence, and asked, “Which competition is he entering?”
With a mix of respect and admiration, the attendant answered, “That’s Mr. Xi Wenhan, the three-time reigning champion of our Black Lava Colosseum.”
Contemplatively, Jiao Yuanju asked, “So, how do I get a match with him?”
The attendant scoffed, “You? You’d have to be undefeated in the elite competition to even be considered worthy of Mr. Xi’s time. But let me caution you against biting off more than you can chew. Our Colosseum’s policy is indifferent to life or death. Do you think your Combat Pet will survive that long?”
Jing Haokuo retorted furiously, “How dare you speak like that? Is this the service standard here? Believe me, I won’t hesitate to file a complaint.”
The attendant clamped his mouth shut, his face turning a shade of steel, yet resentment still seethed in his eyes. He hadn’t anticipated their boldness.
“Haokuo, that’s enough,” Jiao Yuanju interjected.
With a calm demeanor, Jiao Yuanju requested, “Process my entry for the Elite Competition. I intend to compete today.”
“Name or alias?”
As Jiao Yuanju inwardly sensed the formidable might of his Asura Combat Body, he responded distractedly, “Call me ‘Daddy Sweeps the Arena.'”
The attendant stood there, flabbergasted, as Jing Haokuo’s chicken leg tumbled to the floor, both staring bewilderedly at Jiao Yuanju.
Jiao Yuanju, however, ignored them and proceeded inside, leaving the attendant to wonder, “How do I fill this out?”
The waiter and Jing Haokuo exchanged bewildered glances.
After a moment, Jiao Yuanju and Jing Haokuo stood in the ready area, silently gazing at the qualification card. They had hoped to enter the competition without drawing much attention, but now it seemed inevitable that they would be the focus of the entire arena.
Within just twenty minutes, Jiao Yuanju was called to make his entrance. He made his way down the contestant’s tunnel at a measured pace. Fearing that using Eoldrai would reveal his identity, he once again chose to bring out the Shadow Tiger.
The Elite Beast Battle Arena was bustling with activity, mostly wealthy individuals placing their bets.
As Jiao Yuanju stepped in, the previous contestant was triumphantly throwing punches, while his opponent’s Combat Pet was bloodied and being dragged away. The atmosphere was thick with the scent of blood and the weight of solemnity. This was no academy; here, in the pursuit of money, opponents engaged in life-and-death struggles, and Combat Pets could truly perish.
The announcer’s voice rose with fervor, “We now begin the next beast battle. Mr. Xie Jun, with three consecutive victories, and his Combat Pet will face off against tonight’s newcomer…”
The announcer’s eyes bulged as he struggled with the name on the card, unable to proceed.
Restlessness swept through the crowd. Some of the elegantly dressed, wealthy spectators in the front rows voiced their discontent, demanding, “What’s the holdup?”
Gritting his teeth, the announcer announced, “The challenger is ‘Dad who Dominates the Arena.’ Let’s give him a warm welcome…”
Laughter erupted among the audience, with some even spitting out their drinks in amusement. The name was audaciously bold!
“Who does this guy think he is? Using such a brazen name, does he not fear a brutal defeat?”
“He’s quite the boaster. For his first match, he’s up against Xie Jun, one of the Elite Arena’s notorious ‘Gods of Killing.’ Xie Jun hails from a distinguished family. His shepherd dog, a formidable breed post-mutation, has undergone expensive genetic enhancements by Xie Jun himself. It’s likely on the cusp of evolving into a rare and profound Mutant Beast!”
The crowd looked on at Jiao Yuanju with scorn. His defeat seemed certain.
With a timely chuckle, the host added, “Well then, ladies and gentlemen, feel free to place your bets. Xie Jun’s reputation is no small matter, and the minimum wager is three thousand Alliance Coins.”
No sooner had the words left his lips than the crowd began to declare their stakes.
“I’m putting down five thousand Alliance Coins on Xie Jun to win.”
“Make that six thousand for me!”
Nearly everyone was wagering on Xie Jun’s triumph. A handful of wealthy individuals, in a playful spirit, placed their bets on Jiao Yuanju. Altogether, the odds were staggeringly in favor of Jiao Yuanju at 97%!
Jing Haokuo, clutching Jiao Yuanju’s money, bellowed, “I’m betting 10,000 Alliance Coins that Daddy will dominate and win the whole competition!”
Clearly, this was a bet Jiao Yuanju had orchestrated. He never missed a chance to make a profit. If he won this round, his earnings would skyrocket by 9.5 times, netting him close to 100,000 Alliance Coins!
Xie Jun was the picture of elegance, a middle-aged man dressed in a fine suit, standing with a confident air in one corner of the arena. He declared with a haughty tone, “Considering your youth, I’ll have Canur go easy and leave your Combat Pet alive.”
Jiao Yuanju scoffed, “Was I not clear enough?”
“What?” Xie Jun was taken aback.
With a nonchalant air, Jiao Yuanju asked, “Do you even know who I am?”
Xie Jun retorted, “Daddy sweeping through the crowd. Quite the punchable name you’ve got there!”
Jiao Yuanju simply smiled and responded, “Whether I’m asking for a punch or not, is that really for you to decide?”
“You!”
Xie Jun’s anger flared in an instant.
