Chapter 482 - 476: Reaching an Agreement
Chapter 482: Chapter 476: Reaching an Agreement
“Sure,” Finn Lewis thought for a moment and didn’t refuse. Each square kilometer equates to 1500 acres of land, so 2000 square kilometers equate to 3 million acres of land. Even in comparison to the large estate owners in the Northern Europe Federation, this is a considerable amount.
The price of this desolate land, even as industrial land, wouldn’t be exceptionally high. A few thousand per acre would be considered desirable. Although the area is vast and the total price isn’t a small figure, for the officials of Bale City, the financial gain isn’t as valuable as the good will gained through this transaction.
“However, we do have a requirement if the land is to be offered for free,” said Andy Terry.
“What requirement?” Finn Lewis nodded; finding it reasonable to expect some conditions if such preferential terms were being given.
“This way, we can offer the land for free, but we hope that Mr. Lewis will employ local people as a priority when hiring. We understand the need for skilled laborers but hope that you’ll employ locals for positions that only require minimal training,” said Andy Terry.
“That’s acceptable. For positions requiring only simple training, we can employ locals. However, if we can’t find suitable workers locally for certain jobs, we’ll hire from outside. I am aware that with our relatively good economic conditions here, many people aren’t willing to take up these jobs,” said Finn Lewis, voicing his understanding.
“As long as you do your best, Mr. Lewis. Also, since these places are relatively remote, the pace of establishing utilities might be a bit slow. However, we’ll ensure that basic utilities such as electricity and transportation are set up as soon as possible,” Andy Terry added after considering more requirements.
“No problem,” Finn Lewis had no issues with these conditions.
Actually, the parts of land that Finn Lewis had earmarked were really barren and the only available transport was a small two-lane road. The nearest major road was several dozens of kilometers away. However, none of these posed serious concerns to Finn Lewis, as these difficulties could be overcome.
While Finn Lewis and Andy Terry were engrossed in their conversation, Sarah Wood and Kay Lee, sitting in the back seat, were whispering, “Did you guys stay separately last night?” Sarah Wood asked in a low voice.
Kay Lee blushed slightly, glanced at the driver, Lewis the elder, seated at the front, and then whispered back, “Shut up! Why would you ask that?”
“Oh come on, there’s nothing to worry about. Believe me, he won’t hear a thing. These people are professionals,” Sarah Wood said confidently, glancing at Lewis the elder in the front.
“Why are you asking?” Kay Lee said, sounding somewhat helpless.
“Dear sister, can’t you see? I don’t want you to be taken by Finn so easily,” Sarah Wood said resignedly.
Kay Lee blushed further, didn’t respond immediately, and after a while, she whispered, “What’s wrong with that? Aren’t you a little old-fashioned? And we’ve already met the parents.”
“Listen, don’t play dumb. You know how men are… what they can’t get is what they desire most. It’s not about being traditional or anything else, but you’ve seen the number of attractive women around Finn. Forget about the air hostesses on his private jet or his assistant, Fishy Wells. Don’t you feel a sense of insecurity?”
“Surrounded by so many women, what if he gets tired of you before your wedding? Then who can you turn to for a solution? Can you guarantee that he can resist the temptation from all these women? You’ve been in this circle long enough, you should understand how things work.” Sarah Wood let out a bitter laugh and spoke up with resignation.
Kay Lee stayed silent for a while, then slowly shook her head saying, “I know you’re telling the truth. I’ve thought about this myself too. I do feel lost sometimes.”
“See I told you so as long as you’re cautious, that’s enough,” said Sarah Wood with a sigh, “Just like Finn, young and successful, countless women are waiting to throw themselves at him. There are countless women who gush over old rich men in their fifties and sixties. Imagine him [Finn], only in his mid-twenties, yet already the richest person in the world; every woman is attracted to a man like him.
“And gold diggers are even more attracted to him. So, I am just saying that you should try to still have his heart at least before you get married,” Sarah Wood added.
“If it’s really as you say, even if we’re dating now and he’s already lost interest in me before we get married, what’s the significance of our marriage? Won’t the situation be the same after a few years?” Kay Lee couldn’t resist asking.
“By then, at least you will have kids, right? Love gradually turns into familial affection. He will still have intimacies but you are surely going to be the most important person in his life. However, if you’re not married, it won’t be of any pressure to him to break up with you,” Sarah Wood responded helplessly.
The atmosphere in the car suddenly turned quiet. After a while, Kay Lee shook her head slightly and said, “Let’s just go with the flow. If he wants me, I won’t deny him. Also, I like him too. Since I like him, I am willing to trust him.”
“…” Sarah Wood didn’t know what to say.
“Alright, you don’t need to persuade me anymore. I’m willing to trust him. As you said, if he truly wants to break up with me, it wouldn’t be of any pressure whether we are married or not. You already said it, many people chase after men like him even when they’re in their fifties or sixties. So, no matter what, everything is the same,” Kay Lee said, slowly shaking her head.
“Okay,” Sarah Wood forced a smile. Upon thinking that Kay Lee’s words actually made sense, she realized that extremely talented individuals like Finn Lewis are almost universally irresistible. Outstanding individuals like him are indeed surrounded by many forms of temptation.
About three hours later, the convoy traveled from Port Charlotte to Bale City, which was about one to two hours away from Finn Lewis’s destination. Because the road conditions weren’t great, how to construct the road was another issue.
“If it is possible, I hope that we can sign the contract as soon as tomorrow or the day after once all terms are confirmed by the city officials. Then we can immediately start with the demolition and construction projects.” Finn Lewis said bluntly after meeting the main leaders in the city.
In fact, all the terms were made clear without any issues. With these conditions, the remaining negotiations went smoothly.
“Okay, no problem.” After pondering, Andy Terry confirmed the deal.
