Chapter 148: 148: Return My Things
Chapter 148: Return My Things
“I’m not particularly interested in your life, as long as you catch it, just don’t randomly kill people anymore,” Lin Shen thought for a moment before speaking.
If the monster agreed, at least it wouldn’t be able to go on a killing spree within Dark Bird Base, Lin Shen was also trying to protect the Lin Family.
Otherwise, even if Lin Shen won and the monster didn’t kill him this time, having such a homicidal maniac in Dark Bird Base, who knows what might happen.
“You should just take my life instead.” Who knew the monster would say coldly before turning around and continuing to grab for eggs.
Lin Shen didn’t know whether the monster was telling the truth or not, who knew if it would really keep its promise after losing.
If he actually tried to kill the monster and the monster didn’t keep its promise and fought back, wouldn’t Lin Shen be at a great loss?
Watching the monster failing to grab an egg time after time, Lin Shen was slightly shocked.
Before Lin Shen arrived, the monster had already changed five hundred coins for the game, theoretically, it should have caught one by now, but it didn’t.
Lin Shen exchanged another five hundred coins for the monster, who tried more than a dozen times. Including the previous attempts, it should have caught one by now, but still, it hadn’t managed to.
“Zhao Li didn’t adjust the probability again, did she!” Lin Shen looked towards Zhao Li, who was sneaking peeks outside the door.
Having been with Lin Shen for several years, Zhao Li understood his glance and shook her head vigorously from outside.
“If it hasn’t been adjusted, then there shouldn’t be a problem, or perhaps the claw was tight enough last time, and the monster, being new to the game, failed to seize the opportunity,” Lin Shen thought to himself.
Watching the coins in the monster’s basket gradually decrease, Lin Shen couldn’t help but become nervous, “Could it be a problem with the machine? Why hasn’t it caught anything yet?”
As there were only a few coins left in the basket, Lin Shen couldn’t help but secretly gather his strength, preparing to immediately use Stepping on the Celestial Court in case he really lost.
Although Stepping on the Celestial Court was not as fast as the monster’s movements, it was still his last lifeline.
Now Lin Shen doubted whether the monster had tampered with the machine, otherwise why wouldn’t it catch anything.
Just as Lin Shen was pondering, he suddenly heard joyful music coming from the claw machine, and the colored bulbs on the machine started flashing.
“Caught one!” Lin Shen let out a long sigh of relief, at least he’d got past this hurdle; he wondered if the monster would still give him trouble.
After catching it, the monster didn’t go to retrieve the Base Mutation Egg that had fallen down. There were still a few coins left in the basket, and it didn’t continue to play, but stood up instead.
Watching the monster walking towards him step by step, Lin Shen frowned to himself, “Could it be that it’s so angered that it wants to start a fight?”
“Here’s my life, kill me,” the monster said coldly, standing in front of Lin Shen.
“Is it that casual?” Lin Shen looked at the motionless monster in front of him, his expression very strange.
“Forget it, you can go,” Lin Shen didn’t want to take the risk.
“You don’t want my life?” the monster asked, not moving, still looking at Lin Shen.
“I never said I wanted your life,” Lin Shen replied with a frown.
The monster looked at Lin Shen without speaking, just slowly reached out his hand.
Lin Shen immediately used Stepping on the Celestial Court, instantly retreating and shattering the glass, and without hesitation, he turned and sprinted away at full speed.
The monster paused for a moment, watching Lin Shen take off like a runaway horse down the long street, with the corner of his mouth on one side slightly turned up, revealing a strange smile.
As the monster stepped out at a leisurely pace, everything around seemed to come to a standstill. Everyone watched wide-eyed as the monster walked out of the shop, heading in the direction Lin Shen had disappeared, and no one could move an inch.
Lin Shen moved faster and faster, the power within him like a raging torrent, propelling his body to accelerate more and more.
His flesh and blood were almost crushed to a bursting point, but the Steel Carapace automatically protected his body as he charged out of the Dark Bird Base like the wind.
His speed continued to climb, breaking the sound barrier and forming a conical shockwave around him, with its explosive sound breaking through the limits over and over again.
The Steel Carapace itself was struggling to withstand the impact, glowing red and gold as if a meteor entering the atmosphere and burning up on entry.
Wherever he passed, the grass and trees around him were blown down to both sides by the blast wave.
Running and running, Lin Shen gradually came to a stop, and the armor that had glowed red on his body returned to the color of steel.
“Why have you stopped running?” The monster’s voice rang out from behind Lin Shen.
“Can’t escape, just wanted to find a different place to talk.” Lin Shen turned to face the monster, knowing that if the monster really wanted to catch him, he wouldn’t even be able to get out of the store.
“Talk about what?” The monster asked with interest, looking at Lin Shen.
“Why do you have to kill me?” Lin Shen pondered and asked.
“Did I ever say I wanted to kill you?” Half of the monster’s face was smiling, while the other half with the steel appearance remained motionless, creating an eerie sight.
“If you’re not killing me, why reach out?” Lin Shen faltered for a moment.
“I want my thing back.” said the monster.
“Your thing? What thing?” Lin Shen was a bit perplexed, not recalling when he had taken something of the monster’s.
At the Frost Giant Tree, he hadn’t taken anything.
“Could it be those Frost Warriors?” Lin Shen thought for a moment, it seemed that was the only possibility.
“The Teleporter on your wrist is mine,” the monster stated as he looked at Lin Shen.
“This is yours?” Lin Shen was startled, his fingers had been pressing on the switch of the mechanical wristwatch all along.
His escape was not truly an attempt to get away, but rather to change locations and activate the Teleporter, going straight to Realm King Planet, where, surely, even if the monster was fast, it couldn’t follow him to the Realm King Planet.
If the monster had caught up to him from the start, he would have teleported already, not caring if he was seen, as preserving his life was his top priority.
Unexpectedly, the monster had just been following him without intent to get closer, which was why Lin Shen had continued to run until he was outside of the base.
The monster nodded, yet his gaze never left Lin Shen.
This was Lin Shen’s last resort to save his life, and if he gave it to the monster, and if the monster wanted to kill him, he would lose all means to defend himself.
If he didn’t hand it over, and even if he teleported to Realm King Planet, knowing the capability of the wristwatch, the monster would surely wait for him to return, and he would still struggle to escape his fate.
Biting his lip, Lin Shen pressed the switch on the wristwatch decisively.
He didn’t waste words on the monster because he knew that perhaps just one wrong word from him and the monster would strike to take his life.
He didn’t want to give the wristwatch to the monster; doing so would mean handing his life over to it.
Even with slim chances of survival, he was ready to gamble. If he was to die, it would be by his own hand.
“Is following the rules so difficult?” The monster, looking at Lin Shen pressing the switch without trying to stop him, showed a look of disappointment, murmuring to himself, “I thought you were an interesting fellow, but it turns out you’re just another boring person. You could have been free if you just let it go, why choose death?”
The moment Lin Shen pressed the switch, the monster’s metallic finger twitched, and mysteriously, the dial on the wristwatch jumped.
