Chapter 116: Mutant Iron Rooster

“`

Lin Shen didn’t know that others were comparing him to Ouyang Yudu, and even if he had known, he wouldn’t have cared, especially not at this time.

“You little bastard, don’t let me catch you, or you’ll be in big trouble,” Lin Shen viciously slammed the water bag onto the ground.

After he killed the Ultra-Burn Warrior and sheared the wool, Lin Shen continued to search for Base Variant Creatures and other Minotaurs.

Not far from where he had slain the Ultra-Burn Warrior, at the base of a grassy knoll, Lin Shen discovered a multicolored Iron Rooster.

Ordinary Iron Roosters were the color of raw iron, but the plumage of this one was multicolored and exceptionally vivid.

Having killed so many Mutant Poisonous Insects in the vicinity of the knoll, it was the first time Lin Shen had seen a Mutant Iron Rooster.

Assuming that this small Steel Level mutation would be felled with a single shot, Lin Shen didn’t pay it much mind and fired from a distance atop the knoll.

Unexpectedly, the Mutant Iron Rooster plunged to the ground and vanished. Only when Lin Shen ran over did he see that where the Mutant Iron Rooster had collapsed, there was a football-sized grass hole.

Parting the grass beside the hole to take a look inside, he had thought the body of the Mutant Iron Rooster had fallen in there, but there was nothing to be found.

The hole wasn’t deep, yet it turned a corner, and it was unclear where it led.

“Did that shot just now miss?” Lin Shen wondered. Although he used a Pet Launcher with a speed of over twenty, it wasn’t something that steel creatures could dodge, right?

Just as he was about to send a pet into the hole to search, he heard a clucking sound from behind.

Turning around, he saw the Mutant Iron Rooster stretching its neck out of another grass hole on the other side of the knoll, still calling out to Lin Shen’s side as if taunting him.

“You had your chance at heaven and didn’t take it, now hell comes knocking and you invite it in.” Lin Shen quickly drew his gun to shoot, certain this time it would be a hit.

However, as soon as he fired, the Iron Rooster quickly pulled back, and the pet slammed into the knoll, sending grass flying, but it missed the Iron Rooster.

Lin Shen ran over to inspect, and this hole, like the previous one, had a bend in it too.

Before Lin Shen could scrutinize it closely, the crowing came from another direction; the Iron Rooster had extended its neck from a hole yet elsewhere.

It was infuriating for Lin Shen, as the provocation was blatant.

Lin Shen kept a calm facade, pretending not to look in the direction of the Mutant Iron Rooster while quietly withdrawing his Angel Revolver, thinking, “I want to see if your neck retracts faster, or if my bullets are quicker.”

Pretending to walk in a different direction, he suddenly turned and fired. The Mutant Black Armored Centipede shot out like lightning.

“You’re not surviving this time,” Lin Shen thought to himself, only to gasp in shock as his shot missed again, and the Mutant Iron Rooster retracted once more.

“Impossible, right? Can a steel creature dodge a shot from the Angel Revolver?” Lin Shen was taken aback as the Mutant Iron Rooster appeared at another hole.

For the next nearly half an hour, Lin Shen was like a player in a game of whac-a-mole, constantly shooting at the elusively taunting Mutant Iron Rooster.

To his amazement, he didn’t hit it even once.

The Mutant Iron Rooster didn’t run off; it stood its ground against him, pushing Lin Shen to the brink of losing his composure.

“So you want to play games with me? Fine, I’ll accommodate you.” Clenching his teeth, Lin Shen brought out three Mutant Black Armored Centipedes and had each burrow into a different hole.

“`

With the speed of the mutated Black Armored Centipedes, as long as they encountered the mutated iron rooster in the cave, they would definitely catch up with it and take its chicken life.

Who would have thought that after three mutated Black Armored Centipedes burrowed in, there was no reaction for quite a while. Instead, the mutated iron rooster emerged from another hole, stretching its neck and clucking at Lin Shen as if mocking him.

“Has this chicken really become a spirit?” Lin Shen felt frustrated in his heart.

He still held out hope that the mutated Black Armored Centipedes would catch it in the cave. However, he was greatly disappointed and didn’t know if the centipedes lacked intelligence or if the situation inside the cave was too complicated.

In any case, after waiting for a long time, they still couldn’t reach the hole where the mutated iron rooster was.

Lin Shen guessed that there must be many branches inside the cave and that the three mutated Black Armored Centipedes, not knowing the way, might have gotten lost inside.

After thinking, Lin Shen simply summoned all his pets, blocking each cave entrance with one, determined to catch the mutated iron rooster.

Lin Shen kept shooting, forcing the mutated iron rooster to switch to different holes. There were actually more than twenty holes on this grassy slope.

Fortunately, Lin Shen had enough pets to guard all the entrances.

“I’d like to see where you’ll run this time,” said Lin Shen when he saw that the mutated iron rooster hadn’t appeared after a while. He knew that all the holes must be guarded by now, and it was only a matter of time before the three mutated Black Armored Centipedes would catch the mutated iron rooster.

“Play with me, and I’ve never lost a game in my life. In the whack-a-mole game, bro gets full score every time,” Lin Shen shamelessly boasted to himself.

After boasting for a bit, Lin Shen felt somewhat bored. No matter what he said, he was still being played by the mutated iron rooster, and could only resort to cheating to kill it.

As he was feeling downcast, he suddenly saw the mutated iron rooster burst out of a hole not far away, flapping its wings desperately to rush forward.

Soon, a mutated Black Armored Centipede also emerged from the same hole.

The speed of the mutated iron rooster wasn’t that fast. The reason it had avoided being shot by the Angel Revolver before was mainly because it only stuck out its head and retracted it when Lin Shen fired.

In terms of pure speed, this mutated iron rooster was indeed much faster than the average Steel Level creature, almost comparable to a Base Mutant Alloy in speed.

This surprised Lin Shen, as he had never seen a Base Variant Creature break through its own level’s speed limitation.

Seeing that the mutated iron rooster had burst out not far from him, Lin Shen quickly rode his Big Red Bull over, wanting to catch the mutated iron rooster alive to see what special characteristics it had.

The mutated iron rooster landed in a spot below the grassy slope, flapping its wings. The pursuing mutated Black Armored Centipede had also caught up, but Lin Shen didn’t let the centipede bite it. Instead, he rode the Big Red Bull and chased after it.

Thump!

Just as he was about to catch up, with the mutated iron rooster right in front of him, Lin Shen suddenly felt his body plummeting down.

There was a big hole here, covered tightly with interwoven grass leaves, invisible from the outside. The Big Red Bull had galloped straight into it, falling down.

“Damn, there’s a trap!” Lin Shen was startled. He didn’t have time to think much and stepped on the back of the Big Red Bull to leap up, landing outside the pit.

Both the Big Red Bull and the mutated iron rooster had fallen down, and Lin Shen quickly lay on the edge of the hole to look down. He could see that the hole was very deep and pitch-dark, unable to see anything, but he heard a splash, indicating there was water.

Luckily, Lin Shen came well prepared. He quickly took out a strong flashlight from his backpack and shone it down the hole.
