Chapter 27
Chapter 27: What Kind Of Magic Is That?!
Seeing this, Roland smiled helplessly and said, “It seems I’ll have to wait until the banquet and ask the Consul personally!”
‘The Chief Consul has suddenly visited the Cromwell Province, the central province among the five northern provinces.
‘Although the Cromwell Province has not shown much improvement compared to the past under my administration, it has not encountered any major problems either.
I can only hope that this time, the Chief Consul has come bearing good news rather than… ‘
Roland thought to himself.
Some time passed, and it was soon time for the banquet.
At the banquet venue.
Many officials from the five provinces were present. Rennes did not waste any time and went straight to the main topic.
After listening to Rennes’ explanation, everyone there was stunned.
“What? Is that true? Can we really grow crops in the north?”
“Potatoes? Magic food? If they can really take root and sprout in the north, then we won’t have to rely on transporting food from the south every winter like before.”
“If the food problem is solved, our economy in the north will surely advance by leaps and bounds. At that time, the overall prosperity level of the Noah Kingdom will also enter a new realm!”
“As expected of the Chief Consul. He can even develop magic food!”
“Potato, a great food. It is our honor to be able to conduct the pilot experiment in Cromwell Province, and shows the trust the Chief Consul has in us.”
“Yes, let us toast to the Chief Consul!”
“To the Chief Consul!”
…
A burst of cheers rose at the banquet. Many people were still in disbelief because there had been various attempts to try and grow crops in the north in the past in order to reduce their reliance on the south, but all of them had basically ended in failure.
But this time, what Rennes brought was a brand new crop that possessed magic power. It sounded like something out of a fairy tale.
Although Rennes was a powerful mage and many legendary feats had been told of him, the problem they were facing was a food problem.
It must be known that farmers were the ones usually responsible for growing food, while Rennes was a top-notch mage. No one truly believed that a mage like him would actually study crops like a farmer.
Therefore, many of those present were actually skeptical of the matter.
After the crowd gradually calmed down, Rennes smiled and said, “I understand everyone’s concern. I heard from Governor Roland that your ancestors had spent half of their lives researching a way to grow food in the northern lands.”
“Therefore, I believe that all of you are the most knowledgeable people in the Noah Kingdom when it comes to the cultivation of crops. This is also the reason why I’m here. Now, let me give you a general explanation of the cultivation method of the magic food – potato.”
Rennes began to explain, and the place instantly fell silent.
As he explained, more and more rapid breathing sounds could be heard among the audience.
Evidently, many of them had understood what Rennes was explaining, and they started to get excited.
Rennes finished talking about the cultivation method of magic crops and added, “All of you are citizens of Noah Kingdom. The Queen and I hope that every Noah Kingdom citizen can eat their fill and wear warm clothes!”
After listening to Rennes’ speech, the place fell into a momentary silence. Everyone was now looking at Rennes with more respect.
A round of applause suddenly broke out. The applause lasted for a long time, only stopping after half a minute.
They had understood the cultivation method of the magic food. Now, they only needed to wait for the first batch of mage apprentices to be in place, and the potato cultivation could officially begin.
The banquet ended after an hour.
The next day, Roland personally came knocking on Rennes’ room. He stood at the door and said respectfully, “Chief Consul, I’ve brought the people you asked for. All of them are experts and scholars dedicated to studying crops. Their families have been working hard to solve the problem of growing food in the north for generations, since the time of their ancestors. They’re the most suitable candidates according to your requirements.”
Rennes walked out of the room and saw five men standing behind Governor Roland. They were not that old and were probably not even 40 yet. They were all of different heights, but there was the same desire for knowledge burning in their eyes.
Seeing them, Rennes had some ideas. He nodded and said, “Okay, all of you stay here. I have something to talk to you about. You can leave first, Roland!”
“Yes, Chief Consul!”
Roland bowed and left with a smile. He had never had such a relaxed smile on his face before.
If the north could really grow their own food, it would lift a huge burden off his shoulders as the provincial governor. Moreover, he could save the money they usually spent to buy food from the south and use it for city development instead.
Sir Rennes had really done the five northern provinces a huge favor.
After walking out onto the courtyard, Roland looked up at the sky in anticipation, as if he could already see the beautiful future awaiting the north.
Back in the room, Rennes looked at the five men who had cautious expressions on their faces and said with a smile, “Do you want to become mages?”
The five men were at a loss after hearing Rennes’ question. They looked at each other, then nodded at the same time. “Yes!”
“Good. I think you all know that the food I’m going to grow is called the potato. It’s a kind of magic food.
“And the cultivation of magic plants can only be done by a mage.”
As he spoke, Rennes took out a booklet. Printed on the booklet were the words: “Introduction to Magic”.
Under Rennes’ guidance, the five men soon successfully sensed magic power.
After all, they were experts and scholars. As long as they knew the method, it was easy for them to become mage apprentices, not to mention they had someone to guide them.
A few hours passed in the blink of an eye.
A burst of mana fluctuation suddenly erupted in the room.
The five men, who were sitting cross-legged on the ground, opened their eyes at almost the same time. They exchanged glances, their eyes filled with surprise and joy.
They never thought that they would still be able to become mage apprentices when they were already thirty-seven or thirty-eight years old.
Armed with their new knowledge of the cultivation method of magic potatoes, the five of them left the room cheerfully like children, all the while discussing enthusiastically among themselves.
Thanks to the strong support of the provincial governor’s office, the cultivation of magic potatoes was implemented very quickly.
In the southern suburb of Iron Armor City, a shelter built from semi-transparent films was erected on a flat and open field.
A large number of civilians had gathered to watch from afar.
“Is that a magic tool Lord Rennes brought here?”
“I don’t think so. I seem to hear the nobles call it a greenhouse. Supposedly, it can make sure that the temperature inside remains within a certain range.”
“Really? That thing is so amazing?”
“Are you questioning Lord Rennes’ wisdom? If it’s not true, why would the governor have such a happy smile on his face?”
