Chapter 737 - 737 Amusing introductions
737 Amusing introductions
“Ladies and gentlemen. The second team member on the Lionheart team’s side is a beastman of the wolf race, Lupa Lionheart.”
“Hmm... what is this? On the registration form is a note that tells me to read it for the audience to hear.”
“Lupa Lionheart is like a blank canvas. When she fights, the canvas becomes painted red with her claws as her brush.”
Darwin snickered after hearing Maria telling him about an overly energetic wolf girl constantly bothering Nick’s servant to spar.
“I wonder if we are going to see a lot of blood then.” He joked.
“Really? I didn’t expect such a high-ranking noble to pass a joke like this. Now I wonder if there is more to the story than what is written in the registration form.” The commentator said while trying to fish for extra information.
“HAH! Jokes like that are for kids.” The representative of the five noble families sneered.
“The gladiators on our side have seen enough blood to swim in it. Such childish intimidation will not work on them.” He continued before deciding to mock Lupa, “Not to mention she is a lousy beastman. A wild savage can not contend with the best of the best slaves on the market.”
“Hahaha.” Darwin laughed mockingly.
.....
“What are you laughing at?” The representative asked angrily.
A few seconds passed, yet Darwin kept looking at the field.
The representative became curious as to what Darwin was looking at. When he looked at the field, he saw Lupa flipping her finger at him and confidently smirking to display her dominance and confidence.
“You lowly beastman!”
“Now. Now. You can not participate, so please calm down. I would need to ask you to leave if you decide to mock any more combatants on the opposing side.” The commentator warned.
On the Lionheart’s team side, a lot of laughter could be heard. Half of the Emerald Lionheart Mansion residents were laughing out loud. Accompanying their laughter were Lilith, Iris, Sofy, Sakura, and even Plow.
Plow didn’t laugh because of what Lupa was doing. No, she laughed because Lupa was going to get in trouble for acting this way.
On the other hand, Mirey peeked at Plow sitting on her lap. She faintly smiled after Plow’s barking-like laughter was infectious. It was also funny to hear an intelligent fox try to laugh.
The representative angrily shut his mouth, and his glare did not wane. He was already thinking about ways how to take revenge on Lupa if she managed to survive the judgment by combat.
“Ahem, Ladies and gentlemen, time is ticking, and three more members of the Lionheart team need introduction.” The commentator said to change the heating subject.
“Ester Lionheart is the next member. As for her combat power...” The commentator wanted to change the subject, yet after speaking a few words, he became at a loss for words. It made the audience wonder what was happening.
“Ahem. Ester Lionheart is a Sigil Mage with a lot of sigil tattoo experience. In her body runs the blood of the nomad dancing tribe. Yes. The exotic rumored dancing people who no mortals other than them can dance.” Darwin introduced Ester in the commentator’s stead.
The audience stared at Ester. Although their sentiment about Ester was almost the same, their thoughts were not.
Many questioned why a sigil mage was chosen and allowed to participate in the judgment by combat.
As a powerless and self-harming class the sigil mage is known for, the audience wondered if the Lionheart team intended to lose and provide the excuse they competed with only four fighters.
Others wondered what a dancer was doing on the field. In the place where the honorable life-and-death fight was about to take place, the powerless dancer would undoubtedly do nothing to help and die.
*Sigh* “Even though I expected a negative reaction. Even though I prepared myself for this kind of reception. I am still feeling lousy.” Ester unhappily said.
“Don’t worry, sister Ester. You can do the magic trick to feel better. Sister Kazumi told me it gives a lot of relief if you do it. I felt relieved to show it to that human trash, hehe.” Lupa said with a beaming grin on her face.
[Ahem... I didn’t expect Lupa to suggest flipping the bird to the audience. This isn’t on me. As you know. Lupa is Lupa. She learns what she wants to learn.]
Kazumi told Vincent anxiously, fearing Vincent would have a new subject to tease her about. Yet, Kazumi hoped Lupa was not going to flip the finger at the audience.
Vincent and Ester looked at each other. The smirk on their face said it all.
Both knew Lupa’s suggestion was going to cause a commotion like usual. Yet they could not deny the thought of provoking the audience, who underestimated their power.
“Lupa. ” Mimi said with a sly smirk on her face. “Isn’t it better to let the humans think what they want? The weaker they think we are, the more shocked they will become to see us in action. Hehe.”
Lupa wagged her tail vigorously. She looked at Vincent and asked, “My mate! When can I beat the humans and show I am the best?”
While Vincent, Ester, Lupa, and Mimi conversed, the commentator understood the situation was becoming unfavorable for the Lionheart team.
As a person whose job is to remain neutral at all times, and because the match was yet to start, he disliked the idea of the audience favoring one side over the other.
“Ladies and gentlemen. Please bear in mind we are here to witness the honorable judgment b combat instead of judging who is stronger than the other. Those on the field are standing before us with the intention of risking their lives.”
“Egidio Faulkner is correct. I stake my reputation as the headmaster of the Lusterfall noble academy in the statement I am about to say. ” Darwin held the sound-extending gemstone confidently and continued, “Who competes just to lose? What else are we not seeing different than what we expect? I believe the Lionheart team will surprise everyone present today.”
The commentator grinned. These words allowed him to gain more material to hype the audience.
“Ladies and gentlemen. I thought the note on Ester Lionheart was not needed to be said, but I will be reading it either way.”
The commentator pointed his finger at Ester and said in a voice full of expectations, “Ester Lionheart is like a butterfly, both beautiful and free. She dances freely without the limitations of her mortal vessel or the laws binding us to the earth.”
“Hehe.” Vincent chuckled while watching Ester looking at him with a pair of lightly red cheeks and Lupa frowning about Vincent not writing a better introduction for her.
In the royal sitting area, an old man could not contain his joyful laughter. He became even more interested in Vincent now.
Because the man who married his granddaughter didn’t mind boasting about her in front of hundreds of people, Luciano became more interested in knowing Vincent without any fake identities.
“Now, let’s not delay any further, as the next combatant will also surprise everyone.” The commentator extended his hand toward Mimi and announced.
“Mimi Lionheart is the beautiful vampire wife every man desires to have. She is as strong as her killer looks are. Furthermore, a single bite will drain you dry...”
“Ahem... as a married man, I can not continue reading this note any further. The person who wrote this statement on the registration form is telling me more details than I need to know.”
Vincent was looking at the commentator and Darwin when he felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned around and saw Mimi with a smirk on her face.
“Thanks for the public compliment, but be ready to be sucked dry tonight.”
Vincent gulped as the next appointment to have his blood sucked was booked. Hearing Kazumi laughing out loud in his mind made him understand the joke had gone a little bit too far.
Mimi moved her eyes to a specific location. In the shadow of a corner was a presence looking at her. She felt it was a familiar presence, the same she felt in the church at the time she married Vincent.
“So you came.” Mimi happily murmured in a low voice.
Even though Vlad killed Vincent, he still did not stay dead because of the second-chance cheat-like regeneration power. Since Vincent was alive and Vlad stopped trying to kill Vincent, for now, Mimi had stopped hating her father.
The arena became loud because of the audience’s chatter. More than ninety-five percent of the audience had never seen a vampire in their entire lives before.
The audience only heard rumors about vampires drinking blood to survive and become stronger. They also heard a rumor about how powerful the royal guard of the vampire race in the Selos Kingdom was rumored to be.
Any being who could kill the sixth invader in one on one combat must’ve been overwhelmingly powerful, they all believed.
As all eyes were on Mimi and all ears were open wide to hear any comment the next person said, the audience wondered if Ester was competing because they had a vampire on their side.
“Ladies and gentlemen. The vampire race mostly roams the northern content, making it difficult to meet a vampire in person. Yet before us stands a vampire, prepared to fight. Are the rumors of their power real or false? We are going to witness this today.”
Mimi frowned. She worried her father might become angry and kill the commentator if he kept talking about Mimi as if she was there to entertain them.
