Chapter 718 - 718 Save Ester from being eaten!
718 Save Ester from being eaten!
Enough time passed for Ester to figure out the place where the next bite was going to land at.
Every second, every bite allowed Ester to learn their biting pattern. The more the biting looped in the same area, the more confident she became about reading their next bite.
The less mana used for defending, the more mana could be used for the next move. The more seconds passed, the more Ester could channel her mana in different sigils.
Suddenly, a gust of wind and a pair of shining sigils appeared beneath her feet. The wind increased explosively, and like a rocket launching off, her body was about to be lifted into the air.
However, Ester was still bound to the ground by the wolves. Their teeth were holding her from escaping.
The moment Ester multiplied the air sigil beneath her feet, the sharp teeth could not bind her to the ground anymore. While her body shot into the air, the unpleasant sound of the fangs grinding could be heard. Along the sound were a couple of fangs falling to the ground.
*Thud* A predator with a pair of golden eyes and a cold, expressionless gaze appeared in front of them. With one swing of her arm, multiple blurry arms appeared attached to her body.
Blood splattered, and one great snow wolf had deep lacerations as if it was hit by an active meat grinder. However, with a wound that any living being would die from, the life in its body was not extinguished.
Lupa kicked the ground and jumped over the snow wolves. Her claws emitted energy before swinging them in a cross pattern. The energy in her claws shot a cross made out of ten claws at one of the snow wolves.
.....
The attack landed, and the laceration she caused was deep. However, the snow wolf didn’t moan or show a hint of pain like the previous wolf.
Lupa landed on the ground. Even though she couldn’t express emotions, the bloodlust she expelled increased drastically. It was obvious she was angered. Her prey refused to die for some mysterious reason.
Lupa coldly glanced at the snow wolf who should be dead. She noticed the wound she had inflicted was covered in ice. The snow wolf froze the injury she inflicted.
“Ambush.”
Lupa heard once again. She swiftly rushed to the nearest snow wolf as Ester suggested what her intentions were.
The farthest snow wolf from Lupa, the first snow wolf to cover the missing part of its head with ice, shot multiple ice shards at the falling Ester.
As Ester descended to the ground hand first with a ball of condensed wind, any projectiles shot her way instantly neutralized. Any fragments making contact with her body didn’t land a scratch because of the low-powered earth sigil tattoos covering her body.
Ester landed the attack. When this happened, the audience looking at Ester, became shocked to see the great snow wolf’s head, neck, and a part of its shoulder blow in an explosion of pure gore.
Ester spun once while raising her arms up like a dancer. She swiftly lowered her arms the moment she stopped spinning. Any blood the wind sigil tattoos protecting her body from becoming covered in gore were tossed away.
“I didn’t hear her using a spell... how is she fighting like that?”
“How powerful is she? I heard she is going to participate in the judgment by combat.”
“Really? Should I bet on the Lionhearts, then?”
The royal mage leading everyone was at a loss for words. The royal soldiers had almost reached Eester’s location, yet their overwhelming performance astonished him.
The royal mage could now understand why he was mostly ordered to escort the five women joining their group instead of being requested multiple times to protect them at all costs. Two of the five women he didn’t want to be in charge of were not only powerful but also fearless.
The five royal soldiers reached Ester before splitting into groups. They saw the snow wolf wag its tail and ice protruding from its body. All five frowned at the thought of the snow wolf not being dead yet.
“Incapacitate.” One of them said.
As if they all had the same thought, three rushed from one side, and two rushed from the other.
They said, “Wild Blow.” one after the other while swinging their blades at the snow wolf’s legs.
The headless snow wolf slammed its body to the ground. Their survival instinct warned them of danger. They retreated a couple of steps while holding the shield firmly.
As their survival instinct gained from experience guessed correctly, from the body of the snow wolf, multiple ice shards shot from its body.
The royal soldiers blocked the attacks without a problem, while the leading royal mage used a wind wall to protect the one or two ice shards heading their way.
However, one person didn’t have any kind of protection. This is what all the soldiers believed, even if she didn’t appear injured from vicious bites.
They all looked at Ester, about to be impaled by the ice, as if they had forgotten Ester had survived a couple of seconds of being bitten by four pairs of large jaws.
The wind around her body picked up, and the ice about to land on her body was grinded into fine ice. This was the moment they realized she was not a mage.
“Are those glowing tattoos?”
“I think they look like sigils from the little I can see because of her thorn sleeves.”
“Sigils? Are you suggesting she is a Sigil Mage?”
“Only a few rare individuals keep practicing with their Sigil Mage class and try to learn sigil tattoos. But they are the kind of people who love to suffer.”
“Yeah. I had a Sigil Mage friend who almost died to learn one sigil tattoo. He was almost burned to death.”
“Silence!” The leading royal mage ordered. “If you all have the time to have a chat as if you are watching a show, I would not mind asking for volunteers on the next wave of attack.”
*Gulp* The soldiers stopped commenting as they could tell their lives could be lost with their current level of power.
Lilith and Iris looked at each other. They smiled after hearing Ester being praised and the leading royal mage sounding a little envious in his tone.
Ester looked at her hands. She smiled. She became satisfied she could not be covered in blood anymore. She thanked Vincent in her heart for gifting her a handwritten copy of the book about sigils.
Ester flinched when from the edge of her view, it showed five royal soldiers raising their swords and swiftly throwing the blades at her.
‘They want to kill me?’ She thought.
Ester suddenly felt a presence standing behind her. She contorted her body. Her body turned while five blades passed beside her body.
Her eyes saw the snow wolf who told Lupa they were warned once. Ester amplified her sigil tattoos as she understood it was too late.
The supposed-to-be dead, great snow wolf opened its large jaws. One blade after the other, they lacerated the face and shoulders of the large wolf, yet it wasn’t enough to stop it from extending its head and biting all of Ester’s upper body.
The snow wolf raised its head with half of Ester inside its large mouth. At this moment, many things happened at once.
Lilith and Iris stopped feeling confident. The leading royal mage was about to order the first of the four powerful wind arrows to be shot. The soldiers felt a chill rush down their spine from fear.
A powerful wave of bloodlust covered the area. A mysterious sharp gust-like sound could be heard. From the read of the fight, yellow blood and steam flew in the air.
A wolf girl with a pair of golden eyes crying tears of red blood, covered yellow with steam rising from the yellow substance, could be seen swinging her arms wildly.
*Thud. Thud.* Two large great snow wolf’s heads fell to the ground.
Lupa’s body became a blur, and she appeared a couple of steps forward. The two legs of the two wolves within reach of her claws were slashed multiple times. Their bodies lost their balance and fell to the ground.
Lupa looked at the remaining three snow wolves with a cold gaze. She saw the royal soldiers grab their weapons and slash at the snow wolf attempting to eat Ester whole.
Lupa lost her balance for a moment. Her vision was becoming blurry, and her body was exhausted from moving quicker than her current limits. Forcing Primial Insight was taking a toll on her body and vision.
Lupa closed her eyes. She extended her claws, and they sheened with energy. She leaped forward while her eyes remained closed.
Lupa could not see. Furthermore, she became in danger the moment multiple ice shards protruded from the body of the wolf. They shot one after the other at Lupa. She was in a pinch, or so everyone looking at her thought.
Lupa swung her arms swiftly and with mysterious accuracy. The ice shards were all broken, and while her body remained moving forward at the moment of the leap, she swung her arm and inflicted five long lacerations.
*Thud* Lupa landed on the ground. She turned around and opened her eyes. She saw the five royal soldiers, two on one side and three on the other side, slash vertically in the middle of the snow wolf.
The great snow wolf was severed in half in the blink of an eye. When Ester gets swallowed, she will be able to exit the wolf, or so the five royal soldiers thought.
