Chapter 704 - 704 Is Egos the hope they sought?
704 Is Egos the hope they sought?
The kick landed on Egos... no. With all of Awa’s anger and hope, the drop kick passed through the figure of light, causing the attack to land on the emerald throne.
Awa landed on the opposite side. She turned her head to look back, but an unfortunate view was in front of her.
The emerald throne was damaged enough to display twice the light of before. Now, the figure of light basking in the light appeared brighter than before.
“No!!!” Awa exclaimed before her eyes forcefully shut close. The moment they reopened, the corpse of Vincent and Plow crying beside him came to view.
One. Two. Three. Seconds passed, yet nothing transpired. Vincent remained dead on the ground.
‘But that figure of light definitely became brighter and stronger. Why did nothing happen? Why was the gamble Vincent took unsuccessful?’ Awa pondered.
*Rumble* The ground faintly shook when the colossal undead bear began to move its limbs again. The area was covered in warmth as the temperature changed all of a sudden. Yellow steam rose to the sky from the large wounds Awa and Night inflicted as if there were multiple campfires.
Awa became enraged to watch Vincent’s lifeless body on the ground while the undead bear was still moving, even if its body was a corpse.
Awa turned around. “Night. Thanks to Soul For All, I am not feeling the pain of my fractured legs. I want to use the remainder of the time left to attempt to kill this monster.”
.....
*Neigh.* Night opened its serrated mouth while expressing anger. Their emotions were connected as they were one complete soul. They were now both sharing the power of one separately.
“Awa Awa...” *Sniffle* “Please take Vincent...” *Sniffle* “Vincent home...” *~Pho~*
“Levos. Lenol. Lexti. Please escape with Vincent’s body, the little fox, the plant, and the female Cefeye with the tiger’s skull.” Awa requested.
The three Dullahans were shocked to hear Awa make such a request. They didn’t think they would be requested to leave.
“I want to stay. I need to avenge the death of my friends and clan.”
“I want to stay too. I can fight till my last breath.”
“I want to help make this monster understand we Dullahans are not pushovers.”
The three Dullahans rejected the idea of escaping. They desired to remain and fight, even if they were guaranteed to lose their lives.
The undead bear started tilting its body to the side and attempting to stand up. Time to land attacks was running out.
“Listen here...” Awa stopped the moment her eyes saw the female Cefeye rub soil on Vincent’s stump as if she was trying to help.
“You too?” Awa questioned.
*Ske*
Awa gently shook her head.
“Vincent can not be helped with that kind of action. You can only take revenge for the death of your kind and the death of the man who saved your life twice.” Awa said as if she could understand the female Cefeye.
The marks on Vincent’s side began to glow. When their brightness intensified and became difficult to stare at, the light condensed itself into a green ball of light.
“Kazumi?” Both Awa and Plow asked. However, the real identity soon took from.
From the green ball hovering above Vincent’s corpse stretched, and from the sides, five rays of light emerged.
The stretching ball of light formed a torso. Two rays of light formed into legs, two more into arms, and one into a head. The previous ball of green light had now become a humanoid figure of light.
Darkness and light stood in front of each other. One was a figure of darkness, and the other was a figure of light. One was Awa, and the other was a mysterious person.
“Kazumi. Is that you?” Awa asked a second time.
*Sniffle* “Plow can not smell well.” *Sniffle* “But Plow can smell it is bad Vincent Vincent.” *Sniffle*
Awa understood the figure of light before her was the same being she unsealed by damaging the emerald throne in Vincent’s Soul Domain.
It was the same figure of light she could not injure, yet Awa was hopeful it could be Vincent and not the thing she unsealed.
“Plow. What did Kazumi tell you to do next?” Awa asked Plow after Kazumi had told Plow a couple of emergency plans.
“Plow... Plow does not know...” *Pho...* Plow sadly responded because Kazumi had not predicted this current situation.
Time was running out. The undead bear was going to take a few more minutes to stand on its legs and resume fighting. During this time, the wounds on its body slowly healed.
Awa moved closer to the figure of light. Previously, she could not touch a body made of light. However, Awa hoped she could not do so now.
Awa extended her hand and tried to touch the figure of light’s chest. Regrettably, her hand phased through the body of light like before.
Awa became sad instead of showing anger toward the figure of light. “Your name is Egos, right? Could you please go inside Vincent’s body and save him for us all?” she asked in a sorrowful tone.
The figure of light slightly widened its eyes as if it understood Awa or understood her current emotions.
The hand made of darkness inside its chest was allowing the figure of light to understand what Awa was feeling partially.
The figure of light opened its serrated mouth and said, “Please forgive me. It was all my fault.”
Everyone was surprised to hear these words. They started to believe it was Vincent and not Egos who stood in front of them.
“No, Vincent. It was my fault. If you didn’t find my head and keep trying your best to save my life, you would not need to suffer the way you suffered and lose your life for all of us.”
Awa removed her hand from the figure of light’s chest to wipe her bright white tears.
When she started to see a green light, she opened her eyes and saw the figure of light attempting to wipe her tears. However, the hand passed through her body.
The figure of light flustered when it couldn’t touch Awa. It took a step back and looked at its hands.
“Their blood is on my hands. I should not have said that. I should have stayed quiet and enjoyed something simple.”
“Vincent. What do you mean?” Awa questioned. She felt the two of them weren’t on the same page, yet the figure of light kept looking at Awa as if it was talking to her.
“Go back into Vincent Vincent, you baddie light!” *Pho!* Plow urged.
“What do you mean?...”
“I failed them. I did what no son should do. I killed my parents.”
Awa now understood why Plow was calling the figure of light bad Vincent. It wasn’t Vincent. The one in front of her, but the thing inside of Vincent she unsealed. It was none other than Egos.
“Please. Give Vincent his soul back.” Awa requested, but Egos acted as if it could not hear Awa talk.
Egos covered its eyes and said, “I bring misfortune to those around me. I am useless and hated. I am unwanted...”
Egos stopped talking the moment it could feel the emotion of forgiveness coursing inside its body all of a sudden. Egos lowered its hands and saw Awa trying to hug its ethereal body of light.
Awa did not like the way Egos kept blaming itself, yet Awa also felt the monster she helped unseal wasn’t too different from her. Both were regretful. One because of the present and the other because of the past.
Egos didn’t speak. It could feel the sensation and emotion of warmth. Its body gently shook, and its arms gradually moved around Awa. Both were hugging each other as if they were hugging something they could not touch.
Egos didn’t act wildly. Egos only acted remorseful because of the past it remembers and the emotions haunting it. Egos didn’t act like an enemy. It acted like a being who needed to be treated with warmth.
“Egos. Could you return inside the body under you? He means a lot to me. A lot to us all. He taught me how living is better than upholding unnecessary pride.” Awa smiled warmly and said, “No matter what Vincent sees me as, I love him with all my heart.”
Egos opened its eyes wide. It could see a strange box of light with words, but Egos acted as if it could not read. Instead, its body felt oddly happy to be embraced by Awa.
Egos were looking at Awa as if she was finally recognized as its family. The effect of touching Egos while reaching fifty percent Soul Synch allowed Egos to view Awa as its family.
“I am unwanted...”
“Even then you have all of us.”
“I bring misfortune...”
“Even then we will overcome what misfortune brings.”
“I have blood on my hands...”
“No. You do not have.” *Rumble* The ground shook, and an earth spike emerged. It caught Awa off-guard and the result was unfortunate. Awa’s body hung with her stomach pierced.
“Argh!” Awa moaned in pain.
Egos tried to pull Awa off, but its hands passed through Awa’s leg. Egos stopped and looked at its hands while murmuring, “I killed my family again.”
Night kicked the earth spike with her hooves and broke the earth spike. Awa fell down. The three Dullahans and Plow rushed to check on Awa. They didn’t want to see her die too.
Egos clenched its fists firmly. A deep angered, menacing frown appeared on its face. Egos displayed the emotion of rage after witnessing Awa getting impaled.
