Chapter 231: Looming Danger
Chapter 231: Looming Danger
After that, he just ignored them after giving them the drinks while Anastasia and Karina couldn't help but sob while drinking the chocolate drink that was so common back in the day.
Which has now become a commodity as only large survivor groups are able to raid places with a lot of food, while those lone or small groups could only scavenge food helplessly, and try to get by everyday with little to no food.
"Anyway, how did the two of you manage to make your way all the way here? Did the two of you not encounter a large number of zombies on the way here?"
Anastasia was sipping her drink slowly as she wanted to savor it, "Uhmm, we only encountered a few zombies on the way here, nothing really dangerous"
"Not even a single mutated?"
"Mutated? Are you talking about those zombies that have abnormal abilities? Then yes, we didn't meet any of them at all, only the normal ones"
Hearing her answer, Lin's suspicion of this city deepened as he suddenly felt like that there's a dark cloud hanging above them but they can't see through it and peer at what secrets it is hiding on the other side of the dark cloud.
'I need to inform the commander about this situation later. He might already noticed something about this city, and just kept silent about it'
Meanwhile.
Carl arrived before the cargo truck he had seen on the way here.
"Good thing, it's an old model or I wouldn't be able to hotwire it"
Carl was relieved when he recognized that the truck was one of those old models that doesn't have those chips that makes hotwiring impossible at all.
Before starting his work, Carl first climbed up on top of the truck and scanned his surroundings for a minute, and when he saw that there's nothing that could threaten him while he's busy trying to start the truck.
He quickly got down and climbed up inside. Luckily for him, the truck is free of a man eating creature stuck on the seatbelt or he would have felt disgusted sitting on the driver's seat that a zombie had sat on for a few months.
Carl suddenly stopped hotwiring the truck when he thought of something.
"Now that I think about it, who would operate the ship? Do we even have a crew for it or does the commander plan to integrate those sailors stuck inside that ship?"
"That would be really interesting if that happens. Right now, we are probably the only survivor group that has this much firepower, and it's not even an exaggeration that we're probably the strongest superpower in the world now apart from the mutated beasts and zombies"
"I just realized it now, but dang, this is awesome"
After having a monologue by himself, Carl went back to hotwiring the truck with a huge smile on his face.
While all of them are busy with their own matters.
Below a certain large mall, there is a large gathering of zombies.
From regular zombies to mutated ones, and there's even a couple of few mutated zombies that Leo and the others had never encountered before, and the place is packed full of them.
All of them had gathered in the underground parking lot, all the way until they also occupied their entire ground floor, with a few zombies wandering around the upper floors.
And in one dark corner, a pair of ominous red eyes flashed.
"Guuraah!"
That low growl echoed throughout the zombie infested mall and its surroundings, and when the zombies heard it. All of them turned their heads towards one direction before all of them started moving towards it
And it's the direction of where Alex and the rest are currently at!
*****
Alex, who is currently pushing a cart full of items suddenly stopped in his tracks as his eyes flashed with an ominous glint.
He stopped because he could feel a faint vibration coming from under his feet, and that slight vibration made him think of something he had encountered before.
"Dirk, come in. Over
Alex grabbed the radio or walkie talkie hanging on his right shoulder and quickly contacted someone.
Tssak!
[This is Dirk, over]
Not even a second later, a reply came from the radio.
"Get on the aircraft, and quickly report to me what you can see in the skies. Over"
[Roger that, over and out]
Alex put his radio back and quickly pushed the cart faster.
On the other hand, Lin, who was looking after the family had a dark look on his face when he heard the conversation that occurred on their radios. It was because he knew that Alex rarely used the radios unless it was urgent, and knowing that, he felt that his worst fear was coming true!.
He quickly jumped down from the car he was sitting on and landed on the ground, and looked at the two ladies.
"You two, quickly get up and follow me"
Anastasia nodded as she quickly grabbed her daughter and hurriedly followed behind Lin as she knew that something wrong had just occurred just looking at Lin's expression from earlier.
While Carl also stopped what he was doing for a few seconds when heard what Alex had said on the radio, and then he hurriedly tightened the bolts on something on the truck engine.
"Okay! Now, let's get you running one more time baby!"
Carl quickly slammed the hood down and hurriedly got on the driver seat and quickly hotwired the vehicle.
Vrooom!
And not even five seconds later, the truck roared into life!
"Alright, let's gooo!"
Bam!
Carl closed the door and quickly drove it back towards the direction of the shopping center.
"Where are you guys going!?"
He didn't even get that far when he encountered the trio on the road, and quickly stopped.
"To you, of course. You two, get inside the truck"
Anastasia didn't say anything and hurriedly lifted her daughter inside, and followed suit soon after as Lin closed the door behind her.
"What about you?"
Lin just smiled and pointed up, and then he jumped on the hood then on top of the cargo hold.
Bang! Bang!
"Let's go!"
Lin yelled from outside while slapping the cargo hold.
"Hold on tight, ladies!"
Carl laughed and the truck quickly sped up on the road.
Good thing, that they had already pushed the abandoned cars on the side of the road or Carl would have had a harder time maneuvering the vehicle around.
