Stronghold In The Apocalypse

Chapter 20: Primal Roar!

Chapter 20: Primal Roar!

Night came.

The city of Los Angeles was enveloped in a total darkness with the only source of light coming from the moon and the streets are crawling with Zombies, moaning as they looked for their next victim and shadows of some kind of animals would appear then disappear under the cover of the dark. Survivors who somehow managed to live through the day hid themselves to their temporary safe places cowering in fear in a corner afraid that a Zombie would suddenly come barging in, falling prey and becoming their next meal. People who wish that a zombie apocalypse deeply regretted it now that they have finally experienced how harsh the life would be, they felt like every step they make is like walking on a tightrope that a single mistake would cost your life.

But within these total darkness and fear that dominated the whole city, one place existed where a group of survivors didn't feel the tension and the fear that should've been felt by in normal times and all because of someone that only be described as abnormal or a variable.

Josh is holding a plate on one hand a knife on the other as he eagerly slice of a chunk of meat and put on the plate as he happily offered it to Leo "Here boss, you get first dibs on the meat as a sign of gratitude from all of us whom you've rescued and kept us alive till now. Thank you, it's been hard on you".

""We give our deep thanks to you boss!""

The group happily raised their glasses full of alcohol and even the little girl happily copied them swinging her juice up in the air happily who's now no longer afraid and felt safe instead.

Leo smiled at them and also raised his glass and downed it in one go and took a bite of the meat after.

"Delicious!" Leo exclaimed in surprised as he didn't expect that it would be this delicious.

"Wow, this truly delicious!"

"Mommy! This meat is so good! ~"

"You're really great Uncle Tom! You're recipe is really great"

"Haha, not really. Even I didn't expect that the meat would turn out this good! It must because it's the meat of a mutated animal, that's why!"

Leo perked his ears up when he heard what Tom said about the meat, after all he was also suspicious if it truly was Tom's secret recipe that he kept bragging about and if it's not because of the recipe behind it then it must because this is the meat of a fully mutated animal. A few seconds later his assumption was confirmed when a system notification rang within his mind after he took the last bite of the meat from his plate.

[You have consumed the meat of a Level 4 Mutated Lion]

[Gained +1 Strength, +1 Agility, +1 Vitality and +1 Stamina!]

"T-this.. Is awesome!" Leo felt surprised by it as he didn't expect that there's another way to increase his stats other than leveling through killing zombies and monsters.

After that, Leo gorging on the meat as he had almost eaten half of the roasted beast while a continuous system notification rang within his mind, making him feel delighted. While his companions was looking at him dumbfounded on how he easily devoured that amount of meat.

Leo then gave burp as he patted his belly full of satisfaction from gaining +3 Strength and Agility and another +2 for Stamina and Vitality. Leo then noticed the dumbfounded stares directed towards him and laugh awkwardly to himself.

After that short interlude, the people continued partying while minding their alcohol consumption. Of course, even though they made sure to enjoy the night. They at least made sure to patrol the around the place in two's while the group who patrolled would join the rest again in front of the campfire and this cycle repeated until all of them fell asleep on the ground with faces full of satisfaction.

The reason why Leo allowed them this sure enjoyment in the middle of a zombie outbreak was too loosen up their nerves, that has been in high alert for several hours now. It's also to prevent them from going insane because of the piling stress on their bodies.

Leo already left the site halfway and went to the balcony while looking at the thumb sized purple crystal on his hand that Tom handed earlier when they were cleaning the carcass of the beast.

"System, is this what I think it is? A beast core?" Leo said like he was talking to himself.

"Yes host, a beast core full with of pure energy within which is even more efficient than the energies which you call 'electricity'. The energy within can power up any kind of machine."

"Really!?" Leo looked at the beast core with sparkling eyes.

"Yes, host"

"Great, In the future, I won't need to be worried if I ever ran out of supply of electricity. Well, even though I still don't have a suitable equipment to extract its energy."

Leo then smiled as he put the crystal back to his Inventory and called out to the system to open his personal stats.

"So, I'm still only Level 4, the same as the mutated lion earlier but I killed it so easily. Then it only means that my stats are already beyond level 4, maybe with these stats I'm probably around Level 10 or more by now" Leo stroked his chin while looking at his current stats.

Leo then distributed his available stats to +3 Stamina and +2 Agility "I actually forgot about my free stats then opening that bank vault before would have gone far more easier" he grumbled while assigning his stats.

"Hmm? Right, I keep forgetting that I need a new skill now, after all every skill helps at increasing my survivability and the people around me" Leo said as he closed the current window and opened the Skill Tomes section.

Skill Tomes

[Active Skills] [Passive Skills]

Two sections appeared in front of Leo and he immediately clicked at the active skills and had a thoughtful expression while holding his chin and his hand constantly browse at the almost unlimited skills.

"Windblade, Tyrant Fist, Fireball, Waterball, Earth Spike, Lightning Blast, Iron Ski.." Leo muttered as he read every skill that passes by.

Then Leo saw a familiar skill name that made him snicker "Summon Undead? Hehe, summoning undeads in a world almost filled undead? Now, that is unusual" then he continued browsing.

Leo stopped at a skill called "Primal Roar" that piqued his interest and tapped on the skill showing its details.

[Primal Roar]

"This skill is what I need! A great trump card if I ever get myself surrounded by either Zombies or Enemies" Leo immediately bought it for 300 Defender Coins leaving him only 37 coins left.

"Damn I'm poor again! But it's so worth it!"
