Chapter 39 - The Might of the Saber and Sword
Chapter 39: The Might of the Saber and Sword
Yang Xiao and the others were delighted, witnessing their Leader’s unmatched prowess. Daiqisi and Hu Qingyang, the two beautiful women beside him, smiled the brightest. Just moments earlier, they had worried for their beloved, but now they were brimming with pride.
Shaolin’s head monk, Kongwen, maintained a composed expression, though he was deeply shocked. He had never imagined that the young Leader, who looked barely twenty, would possess such astonishing martial skills.
Extermination Master Tai of Emei grew even more sullen. She had already suffered a defeat at Ling Yihan’s hands days earlier, and now, seeing his even more impressive abilities, her displeasure deepened.
Standing beside her, Ji Xiaofu felt differently. She was struck by the vast difference between her own martial skill and Ling Yihan’s, despite being of similar age. Recalling their close encounter two days ago, her heart stirred with an inexplicable feeling.
The other sect members, who had previously mocked Ling Yihan, were now awestruck and dared not underestimate him any longer.
Wudang’s Song Yuanqiao raised his wine cup and praised,
“I have long heard of the Ming Sect’s new Leader’s unparalleled skills, and today, seeing it with my own eyes, I must say the rumors were true. It is indeed an eye-opener. I, Song, am truly in awe. I toast to Leader Ling!”
With that, he downed his drink.
Ling Yihan smiled faintly.
“You’re too kind, Hero Song,” he said, raising his cup in return.
“Leader, although this boulder is sturdy, it must be uncomfortable to sit on. Shall I make some adjustments?” Daiqisi asked with a mischievous smile, looking up at Ling Yihan, who was seated on the stone.
Understanding her intent to impress the onlookers, Ling Yihan nodded.
“Very well, as you wish.”
Daiqisi drew her Longevity Sword and cut the two boulders into four pieces each, making a total of eight. With a few quick strokes, she fashioned them into neat, square stone stools.
Following Ling Yihan’s instructions, Daiqisi, Hu Qingyang, Yang Xiao, and the other followers each took a seat on one of the stone stools.
Watching Daiqisi slice through the stones as if cutting through tofu, the gathered crowd murmured, speculating that her sword might be the Heaven-Relying Sword.
Daiqisi, sensing their thoughts, laughed aloud.
“You’re all wondering if this is the Heaven-Relying Sword, aren’t you? Don’t be mistaken—this is called the Longevity Sword, a gift from our Leader. If you don’t believe me, you can ask Extermination Master Tai of the Emei Sect.”
Extermination Master Tai snorted but remained silent. Seeing her lack of denial, the crowd took it as confirmation.
Next, the conference moved on to the main agenda: showcasing the power of the Saber and Sword and electing a martial alliance leader.
At Ling Yihan’s signal, White-Browed Eagle King Yin Tianzheng, the Ming Sect’s Guardian King, stood up and addressed the assembly.
“I believe most of you already know that our Leader recently obtained two priceless weapons—the Dragon-Slaying Saber and the Heaven-Relying Sword. As the saying goes, ‘The supreme martial weapon, the Dragon-Slaying Saber, commands the world; none dare defy. When the Heaven-Relying Sword emerges, who dares to contend?’”
He paused, his sharp, hawk-like gaze sweeping over the crowd.
Yin Tianzheng, tall and broad-shouldered with snow-white brows and a hooked nose resembling an eagle’s beak, had earned the title White-Browed Eagle King. Exuding an imposing aura, he continued,
“Our Leader originally intended to invite you all to Bright Summit to view the Saber and Sword. However, out of concern that you might fear it to be a trap, he chose to hold the conference here at Mount Tai in central China, alluding to the idea of ‘Martial Supreme, Mount Tai as the North Star.’ Of course, our Leader also wanted to make it known that these weapons are now in our possession, which is why we invited you here. Now, let us show you the Saber and Sword in their true glory.”
With that, he signaled, and several Ming Sect disciples stepped forward, retrieving the Dragon-Slaying Saber and the Heaven-Relying Sword from an iron chest and bringing out an iron anvil along with two large iron hammers.
Yin Tianzheng ordered them to display the weapons to the crowd, announcing,
“Ladies and gentlemen, these are the legendary Dragon-Slaying Saber and Heaven-Relying Sword!”
The Heaven-Relying Sword, forged from the Gentleman’s Sword and Lady’s Sword, gleamed coldly. The Dragon-Slaying Saber, created from a dark iron sword fused with other metals, appeared unremarkably black. The crowd murmured, questioning the authenticity of the Saber and Sword.
“Yewang, Susu, test the weapons!” Yin Tianzheng instructed.
“Yes, Father!”
A young man and woman stepped forward—Yin Tianzheng’s children, Yin Yewang and Yin Susu. They placed the Dragon-Slaying Saber and the Heaven-Relying Sword lightly on the iron anvil, with the Saber’s edge facing up.
“Bring the hammers!”
At Yin Tianzheng’s command, two disciples wielding large iron hammers struck the edges of the Saber and Sword.
Crack! Crack!
Both hammers split in two, with one half clattering to the ground and the other remaining attached to the handle.
The crowd gasped in astonishment, peering closely at the edges of the weapons and the smooth cuts on the hammers, verifying that no trickery was involved.
“While weapons capable of cutting through metal are rare, they aren’t unheard of. But to slice through these hammers as effortlessly as slicing tofu—nearly silently—these truly are divine weapons.”
“So they are indeed the Dragon-Slaying Saber and the Heaven-Relying Sword!”
Seeing this, the crowd erupted in discussion, convinced of the weapons’ authenticity.
Then, Yin Yewang and Yin Susu each took a position beside two rows of trees, wielding the Saber and Sword. With a quick movement, they slashed at the trees, cutting through a dozen trunks in each row.
Though the trees remained standing, the crowd watched in amazement, puzzled.
Only after Yin Yewang and Yin Susu lightly tapped the first tree in each row did the trees fall one by one like dominoes.
The blades had been so sharp that, though the trees were cut, they remained standing at their bases.
The crowd burst into applause, marveling at the might of the Saber and Sword.
