Starlight Necromancer

Chapter 79 - Silent Step

In the middle of the night, the group of four finally reached Arcadum again, walking through the gate exhaustedly.

"I'm staying at an Inn nearby, so I'll head there now... should we meet again tomorrow, to figure out what to do next?" Kyla asked with a slight yawn, and the others quickly agreed, "Let's do that. I think we should go to Zhaine's smithy tomorrow as well, so we can just meet there." Lynol suggested, while still carrying the huge bone on his shoulder. Even if it was wrapped up with cloth, it still looked quite weird from an outside perspective.

"Sure. I think I know where it is... It's the place on the bottom level along the market street, right?"

"That's the one." Foster quickly replied, and so, the group quickly split up. They dragged their feet across the streets and up the seemingly neverending stairs to reach the topmost layer, soon reaching the entrance to the Red Riverside Inn. Just walking here took another hour, and it was so crowded that they couldn't even walk at comfortable speeds.

Without even saying much more, the group split up and all went to their own rooms, ready to head to bed. Foster took off his armor and threw it onto the table exhaustedly, before simply stripping out of his Gi, dropping the clothes to the ground, and then let himself drop down onto the bed.

It was just so incredibly hot here that Foster could immediately feel the sweat collecting on the concave part of his back like a small puddle.

"Urgh..." He groaned loudly, and slowly rolled over onto his back so that he was looking at the ceiling, "Let's hope that I can sleep properly tonight..." He muttered to himself, so exhausted and hot that he didn't even realize that normally, those flowers should be cooling this room down considerably. But even so, the whole room felt like an oven.

---

An hour, maybe two, later, Foster slowly pulled his legs over to the side of the bed, pressing the soles of his feet onto the wooden floorboards.

"And there I thought that maybe I was doing better... I'd been sleeping surprisingly well lately." Foster sighed, rubbing his tired eyes. He had been laying in bed for the past while, trying to fall asleep. But no matter what he did, his mind simply didn't drift away like he hoped. While the only time that Foster could remember himself sleeping all through the night was the night after he arrived in this world, he had generally been able to sleep at least a cumulative amount of four, maybe five hours every night. It was quite a lot for his standards.

Foster turned his head over toward the side, looking at the small nature spirit laying in the small nest that Foster had made for him out of one of his shirts.

Slowly, he stood up, scratching the back of his head. Usually he would go for walks at this time of the night, but he wasn't sure if it would help in a place like this. It might make it even harder for him to sleep.

"Maybe some exercise helps..? If I just use up my stamina, then maybe..." Foster thought to himself, stepping into the center of his room. At that thought, Foster realized that he had forgotten to check on the changes in his Martial Necromancy skill when it leveled up again.

He pulled the window up, and saw two lines sticking out to him. Again, he got a new martial skill and spell, beside the 'Bone Breaker' martial skill that he got from clearing the dungeon.

"The spell... siphoning touch..."

---

[Siphoning Touch][Tier – 1]

[Description: Through your hand, you drain the energies of life from your target into yourself or another target you are currently touching]

---

"...the hell is that supposed to mean?" Foster asked himself, "Is that a healing spell or something? But at least it's tier one, so it shouldn't be too hard to use... Although it's not like I can test it out on anything right now."

After getting rid of the description for the Siphoning Touch spell, he quickly moved on to his new martial skill.

---

[Silent Step][Tier – 1]

[Description: Strengthen your body in order to move around quickly and silently. Increased Damage Received. Decreased Damage Output]

---

Foster scratched the back of his head, "That does seem kinda martial-artsy, at least."

He slowly closed his eyes, and tried to think of a good way to imagine this skill's usage. Silent Step... the way that he thought about this sort of skill, it would be like his body becoming practically weightless and far more agile, so that he could move around as he wanted to. That's what came to mind when he thought about this skill, at least.

He could feel a cold energy fill out his body, particularly his legs and back... and immediately tripped over while standing still.

"The hell..?" He groaned, managing to catch his own fall. When he used this skill, it felt like his legs became weak. As if he was drunk or high and his body simply refused to work with him anymore, that sort of thing. His sense of balance simply vanished and he fell over forward, thinking that his legs weren't able to hold him anymore, "What a weird feeling..."

Foster slowly tried to use the skill again, but this time held onto the table to make sure that he wouldn't fall over again. After getting through the first initial wave, that uncomfortable feeling quickly faded away, and his mind and body grew more accustomed to it.

Taking a quick step forward, Foster could feel his foot move forward far quicker than he thought... It was similar to the feeling of when you lifted a lot of weight, and then you tried to move around without the muscles again. Just that this feeling didn't fade away after a few seconds, and instead lingered around.

It was a bit awkward, since his legs didn't move the way that he was expecting, but it was quite an amazing feeling as well.

With a slight smile on his face, Foster simply hopped slightly to see how else this would help him, and despite just slightly hopping like that, not even fully kicking off the ground, he hit his head on the ceiling, and quickly fell down onto his back, forcing the air out of his lungs.

Laying there, Foster let out a deep groan while sitting up, having just remembered something, "Wasn't there something about this in the books? Something about a proper way to move around outside of combat?"

Quickly, Foster sat back up, and walked over to the the books that he laid down next to his bed. After flipping one of them open, he started looking for the right passage. Figuring this out was as good a way to spend the night as any.
