Chapter 71 - Decoys (5)
Standing before the Keyholder's desk, Atlas closed his eyes for a moment. The edge of Atlas' mouth quivered a little.
"Sir. I won't let you down." Atlas said with a hoarse voice.
After taking a deep breath, Atlas grabbed onto the envelope. Without further hesitation, Atlas left this room.
Walking out, there was an electronic tablet on the receptionist counter now.
"A gift for you, from the Keyholder." The mid-aged lady looked down with half-closed eyes.
Atlas picked up the tablet. Leaving a nod, Atlas walked towards the door. Passing by the receptionist, Atlas took a glance at this receptionist. Kill-intent flashed by in his eyes.
This receptionist knew too much. Atlas did not intend to keep her in this position either. Realizing something, Atlas' kill-intent disappeared.
"Know your place."
"Yes Mr. Keyholder." The receptionist replied with a sullen voice. "I will be your witness."
"Good." Atlas nodded.
That was the answer he needed. If this receptionist was still alive, he could prove that he had a smooth and peaceful transition of power.
If both the receptionist and the Keyholder were dead, at the same time, right after his visit, who'd believe that this power transition was legitimate?
Leaving the door, Atlas murmured. "Did you account for this as well... Uncle Samson..."
"Not that it would matter much in the end though..."
Standing by the elevator, Atlas typed his 40 characters code into his tablet. Without any trouble, his status changed from [Head of Internal Security] to [Keyholder].
Without further hesitation, Atlas froze everyone else's clearance.
Remembering something, Atlas gave his smite members' clearance back.
"A revolution has began." Atlas stepped into the elevator.
...
Ding~
The elevator doors opened at the ground level.
"Good day sir."
"Mister Atlas."
The people outside quickly made a path for Atlas.
Ignoring these guys, Atlas passed through this crowd. The smite member in blue scanned through the crowd. Looking back at the elevator, this guy knitted his brows.
...
About a block away from the city halls, there was a walled off warehouse.
This warehouse was at the interior of the sanctuary grounds. Yet, this place was still heavily guarded.
On one end of the wall, the streets were bustling with activity. On the other side, patrol groups walked around with dogs. In the attic of the warehouse, sniper teams were on the lookout 24/7.
Standing by the front gates, Atlas' group waited for a moment. During this wait time, Atlas quickly sent out commands on his tablet.
As the keyholder, all the sanctuary forces were under his command now.
The guard in the guard post raised questioning brows seeing this. However, recognizing Atlas and the Smite team leaders, this guy didn't say anything.
A moment later, a figure under a black cloak joined Atlas' group.
Seeing this, the security guard knitted his brows.
Under the alerted gaze from the security guard, Atlas' group walked up to the guard post.
Atlas tapped his clearance card at the card reader. As expected, the light changed from red to green. Yet, the metal gates did not slide open.
Atlas turned to the security guard. "Open the gates."
"Sir. Everyone entering this compound must have clearance." The security guard stood tall and formally answered.
"Are you saying no to us." The smite member in blue stared at the security guard with a menacing gaze.
As a mere D-rank, this security guard instantly felt an immense pressure.
"Sir. Rules are rules." The security guard clenched his teeth.
"My words are the rules now." Atlas solemnly declared.
"I will have to report this situation to the keyholder sir."
"Check your system. The keyholder is standing right in front of you." The smite member in blue smirked.
"What?" The security looked at his computer. "How?"
"Open the gates." Atlas knitted his brows in impatience.
"You-"
"Enough guard. You are dismissed from duty." Atlas shot a glance at the smite member.
Like a blur, that smite member in blue chopped onto the security guard's neck.
At the same time, Atlas tapped onto the guard booth's card reader. As expected, it turned green.
Entering the booth, Atlas pressed the gate button himself.
The front metal gates slid right open. Atlas was only one courtyard from his destination now.
However, squads of soldiers were streaming into this court now. About 80 of them. Mostly C-ranks, led by 2 B-ranks. Shakily pointing their weapons at Atlas, these guys looked determined to stop Atlas.
"Is this how you face your keyholder, soliders." Atlas walked past the gates.
"Everyone's. Clearance. Is frozen. At the moment." A receptionist lady walked out of the group.
"Patient." Atlas nodded. "Are you sure you want to stand in my way?"
"You. Cannot be. Trusted."
"And if I insist on entering the storage?"
"I will be. Stopping. You. By force." The receptionist lady replied.
One after another, receptionist ladies jumped into this court.
"Very well. You are now an enemy of the sanctuary." Atlas continued to walk forward.
"Sorry. Sorry. Sorry." The receptionist ladies chanted in unison as they closed in.
"Using the void's power against me." Atlas scoffed and extended a hand at the cloaked figure.
The cloaked figure placed black sack into Atlas' hand. Looking at the receptionist ladies threatening to self-destruct, Atlas opened this sack.
In an instance, those receptionist ladies froze up. In unison, they started to shake uncontrollably. Electric sparks spurted out of their bodies.
Poof! Poof!
One after another, pen-sized black crystals shot out of their bodies. Forming a stream in air, those crystals flew into Atlas' sack.
Thump! Thump...
The metallic bodies collapsed onto the ground.
"You-" The soldiers stepped back in shock.
"Who do you serve soldiers." Atlas looked at these scared people.
Clunk.
Someone dropped their gun onto the ground. Like a signal being made, these guys dropped their weapons.
Without further hesitation, they made a path for Atlas.
"Hmmm..." Atlas' cold gaze quickly brushed through these guys.
Without further hesitation, Atlas' group headed towards the warehouse.
Entering this building, looking around, a smile flashed by on Atlas' face.
Inside, there were crates full of mana stones, mana projectiles, and high quality mana weapons.
Perfect tributes to the void...
...
A few moments ago...
City Hall. Floor Negative Two. Research Director's Office.
Looking at his two visitors, Liam nodded.
"One second." Liam turned back to his desktop computer.
"Take your time." The girl in orange battlesuit nodded. Her scepter faintly brightened up.
The other guy in green battlesuit quietly reached for his sword.
...
About 18 miles away from the sanctuary...
After a quick ride, Alice turned off her motorcycle. She had reached an abandoned factory.
However, there was still engine sounds around.
Alice looked behind her. Faint headlights could be seen.
