Chapter 71: Chapter 71: Gala



[3rd POV] [Later that day]

Walking towards City Hall, Gwen looked up at the brightly illuminated building, noticing the banners with what looked to be Korra on them. Gwen had dressed up rather simply for the night, changing her symbiotes form into a simple suit.

Walking into the lit building, she ignored the glances of confusion that was being sent her way, before smiling as she walked up behind Korra, who was seemingly talking to someone.

"Wow, you look great, Korra" Gwen said from behind, causing Korra to jump slightly. The dress the girl was wearing seemed to be a traditional Watertribe dress of sorts.

"Hey! Don't scare me like that you ass" Korra says with a deep breath, causing Gwen to grin, before noticing the ones Korra was speaking to.

'So that's Asami...'

'Gotta admit...she's way more attractive in person' Gwen thought, remembering the girl from when she first watched the show.

"And who is...this? Korra" A man said from besides Korra, causing Gwen to glance at the man that she recognized as Tarlokk.

"Hmm? Oh, this is Gwen, a good friend of mine, and my Firebending teacher!" Korra said with a smile as she introduced Gwen to the man.

"Ah, it's a pleasure to meet you...Gwen" Tarlokk said with a fake smile as he shook Gwen's hand.

"It's nice to meet you as well, Tarlokk" Gwen said, noticing another wealthy looking man looking at her in slight interest.

"Ah, this is Asami and Hiroshi Sato" Korra said, introducing the two. Gwen gave each of them a small handshake, a small smile on her face.

"So, I heard that you got a sponsor for your team?" Gwen asked, looking at Bolin and Mako, both of them nodding with smiles in their faces.

"Mr Sato agreed to do it, isn't that great?" Bolin asked, causing Gwen to nod.

"It is. But, if you guys really needed the money, you could have just asked me" Gwen replied, causing Mako and Bolin to blink.

"The money required was a...lot, Gwen" Korra said on her side, causing Gwen to crack a small grin.

"Money is absolutely zero issue, Korra. Had I known you guys needed a sponsor, I would have paid it myself" Gwen responded, causing Korra to blink.

"I didn't realize you were rich" Korra said, surprised. The more she found out about Korra, the more interested she became in her, her mysterious teacher and her background growing more by the day.

"I'm...well off, Korra. Plus, I don't care about the money I have, I prefer the simpler life" Gwen replied with a shrug, as money quite literally meant nothing to her. As it naturally wouldn't, when you can quite literally print the thing.

"Is there anything you can't do? Not only are you Korra's firebending teacher, you taught me la-more Earthbending techniques, AND you're teaching Korra how to bend Lightning!" Bolin said, causing everyone to look at Gwen in surprise.

"You're teaching Korra how to generate lightning? Isn't that incredibly dangerous?" Asami asked in surprise. It was public knowledge that lightning bending wasn't easy, and was an extremely delicate art, as one small move done incorrectly, could lead to teh one trying to do it's death.

"It usually is. But Gwen's a master firebender, probably one of the best. She even developed a technique that lets her absorb the lightning I generate, that way, I can practice as much as possible, without it harming me or her!" Korra said in praise of Gwen. The others blinked in surprise at the news of the technique, and the praise of her firebending.

"And how old are you?" Hiroshi asked in interest.

"17" Gwen replied with a small smile, knowing that the man was analyzing her. Afterall, he was a member of the Equalists and their biggest backer.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om

Tarlokk on the other hand, had noticed someone out of the corner of his eye.

"Chief Beifong, I believe you and Avatar Korra have already met" Tarlokk said as Lin Beifong walked up to Korra.

"Just because the City's throwing you this big to-do, don't think you're something special. You've done absolutely nothing to deserve this" Lin said with a scowl on her face, causing Gwen to raise an eyebrow.

"You're right. She has done absolutely nothing to deserve the treatment you're showing her. I mean really, what has she done to you, that's got you so pissed at her?" Gwen asked, looking the woman down, who shot her a glare. He others watched with silent, wide eyes as Gwen stared at Lin, unimpressed.

"That glare might scare others, Beifong, but it doesn't scare me" Gwen added, still not scared of the glare.

"And who are you?" Lin asked, staring the unknown teen down. She knew everyone at the party, but this teen was unknown, and by her standards, being rude.

"Gwen. I'm Korra's friend and Firebending master. I'm also not a fan of the way you're treating her. Because while everyone else tolerates your frankly bitchy attitude, I won't" Gwen said, staring the older woman down.

"And who are you to tell me what to do? I am the Chief of Police, you brat" Lin said with a glare, while Gwen deadpanned. She was inwardly wondering how smart Lin actually was. "Besides the fact that everyone is now watching you be rude? Or the fact that, like I said before, Korra quite literally hasn't done anything to you? Just because you're eternally miserable, doesn't mean you need to make everyone else's lives miserable" Gwen replied, speaking bluntly to the older woman.

'I forgot how much of a dick she is in the earlier seasons' Gwen thought inwardly with a groan, realizing that Lin was going to be very annoying for a little while before she started to get a little better, personality-wise.

Growling in anger, Lin decided to forgo the apology and walked off briskly. Watching her walk off, Gwen only had one thing to say. One that got a small giggle from Korra, and a smirk from

Mako and Bolin.

"Wow...she was a bitch"
