Chapter 330- Impure Objectives (目的不纯)
Note: Previously termed as concoctioner (or something similar), I’ve renamed it to ‘pharmacist’. They’re basically the people who make medicine.
These pharmacists must have a deep foundation in processing medicine, and must know the medicinal use of each medicine. Even if they didn’t know how to use medicine, they need to know in detail what kind of state the medicines need to be used in different prescriptions.
People who shine in this medicine fair would definitely have a good name in the future, but the most important thing was to obtain the rights to use some of the medicine fields for profit.
As for the competition process, it was similarly simple. It was nothing more than testing the contestant’s knowledge of medicinal properties, along with the methods for the preparation of certain herbs and the reasoning behind it.
Early next morning, the Medicine Fair officially began.
Although everyone’s purpose was clear, the main point of the Medicine Fair was still to communicate and exchange knowledge, and the so-called competition was all the way at the end.
Jing Yunzhao put on clean clothes and went out, but as soon as her door opened, she was taken aback by the sight of two boys around her age greeting her.
As soon as she showed up, the other party immediately spoke: “Hello, my name is Cui Jun (崔均), this is Tong Yan (童彦), we heard that you are also here to look around at the Medicine Fair, so we came to accompany with you.”
Jing Yun Zhao slowly closed the door behind her and gave the two a glance.
Both of them were in their late teens, about 17 to 18 years old. The person who had spoken was fairer and quite handsome, while the boy named Tong Yan standing next to him was relatively quiet compared to him, with thick eyebrows, big eyes, and a slightly darker complexion.
While she didn’t really know the kind of people who usually came to the Medicine Fair, she knew that her purpose here wasn’t just to look around.
The two of them looked childish, and the smell of medicine on their bodies was not strong, especially this Cui Jun. He was a little impetuous when talking, had normal finger color [I guess it’s the way people’s hands are stained with color according to some of their occupation], and thus, definitely not a pharmacist.
Jing Yun Zhao turned away from them,” I’ll be fine alone, excuse me.”
She wasn’t trying to be arrogant, but that she knew what was going on.
People were discussing her behind her back yesterday, and there were already people obnoxiously waiting outside her door this morning. She refused to believe this wasn’t arranged by those people
There was a very high likelihood that these two boys were here to worm things out of her; their purposes weren’t pure, so she rejected interacting with them.
He obviously didn’t expect Jing Yunzhao to refuse so directly, and he couldn’t accept it for a while: “This is your first time here, right? You must not know the rules here...”
“Someone sent this over this morning, “ she waved a list of rules of the Medicine Fair in her hands.
Cui Jun was instantly dumbfounded.
On the other hand, Tong Yan turned around to leave without another word. Cui Jun followed after him, but turned back to give her a stink eye. (what do you call this i forget phrases)
As expected, he had the heart of a child; when he wanted to curry favour, he would be polite, but he would return back to his original self once he was rejected. She would definitely stay away from this kind of person.
Now that her ears were clean of filth, Jing Yun Zhao explored the yard.
This yard was huge, with hundreds of rooms merely at the back, not to mention the front yard.
According to the arrangement, what they had to do a few days ago was to observe the surrounding medicinal fields and they had mostly understood the growth environment of some medicinal materials. Of course, many people already understood these things, and just treated this as a form of relaxation.
After Jing Yun Zhao walked around the yard once, she followed the other and went out.
But before she could arrive at the medicine field, a few people followed after her, while one of them pointed at Jing Yun Zhao and ordered, “You! Stop!”
As soon as Jing Yun Zhao turned her head, the other party hurriedly approached and said: “We chased you the whole way, can’t you hear us? Why are you still walking?!”
“Were you guys calling me? My bad, I didn’t hear you guys calling my name, so I assumed someone was screaming for fun,” Jing Yun Zhao chuckled, looking extremely polite.
