Chapter 30 - Washing Machine?
I was successful in approaching her but I couldn't gain any useful intel on her. I could only observe her but it didn't help me much.
I have to think of a good way to be friends with her and then see where things continue from that point.
Three of them walked home together. I could've joined them if I wanted to but I didn't want to force things since it would ruin the natural flow of things.
There was one thing which was contrasting. But I won't jump to conclusions now. I have to observe them some more.
I returned home and rang the doorbell.
I heard footsteps rushing towards the door, and Lilith opened the door. She peeked at me from behind the door.
I went inside and closed the door. As I turned around to face her, I noticed Lilith wearing a light blue shirt of mine.
The shirt was of course bigger than her, and it was up to her knees. And the sleeves of her left arm were folded up while the sleeves of her right arm were flying around.
She wasn't wearing her usual attire.
"Oi, wha-"
"Before you say anything." She looked at me.
"I can explain myself." She said with a nervous smile.
Lilith being nervous is not something I see every day. This is going to be interesting.
I'm going to enjoy this though I won't deny the fact that she was looking cute.
"So… you see there was this juice I was about to drink." Lilith said.
"The two and a half litre one inside the fridge?" I asked. She nodded.
"And you spilled it on yourself?"
"How do you know?"
"Well… nevermind." I said, and went to my room. I put my bag beside my bed and looked at Lilith, staring at me.
"What?" I asked.
"I want to wash my clothes."
"Then wash them."
"I don't know how to use that."
"Use what?"
"You know that thing you use to wash your clothes. It vibrates and makes weird noises."
I thought for a moment while staring at her face completely baffled.
"Washing Machine?"
"Yes, Yes, Yes." She pointed her index finger towards me and nodded with a smile on her face which clearly showed she enjoyed my answer.
"Why don't you use magic?"
"Well, If I use elemental magic, your apartment will be damaged."
"Good point." I sighed.
I stood up and went near my washing machine, which was outside my bathroom. Lilith followed me behind.
"See here." I stepped aside and let Lilith see the control panel of the machine. I showed her how to start the machine and how to raise the water level or change the mode of washing.
She was nodding as I was giving the instructions and her eyes were locked on my hands. She was paying close attention to how I was operating the machine.
"Since you spilled your clothes with orange juice, what would you use?" I asked her.
"A simple rinse would do. Then I would dry wash them. Right?" She asked for affirmation, to which I nodded.
The fact that she learned to operate a new machine pretty quickly showed that she was quite intelligent.
"Ah, no need to praise my genius." She smiled
"I keep forgetting the fact that you can read my mind."
"Of course." She had his smug on her face.
"Now since you know how to use it, wash my clothes from now on." I said.
"Heh? Not fair." She pouted.
"Yeah, it's actually really tiring after school to do all the chores. So I would like your help." I said what I was genuinely feeling.
"Well, I want something in return." Her lips curved into a smug.
"First of all, I'm cooking you dinner, giving you a roof over your head and now you want something else? You ungrateful Devil-chan." She looked at me for a few seconds and then burst out laughing.
"I was kidding, I'll help you out don't worry."
Ok, that was weird. She agreed pretty quickly. I thought she would whine about it. Since she agreed to that, let me push her buttons more.
"Can you cook?" I asked her.
"I can. I will cook you one delicacy of my town in hell."
"No, it's alright."
"You think I can't cook?" Her voice sounded like I offended her.
"I never said that."
"Then?"
"It's that… you know I'm human so I don't know if eating hell's food will be good for my stomach or not." I expressed my genuine concern.
"You won't know unless you try." She said with a smile.
I looked at her from top to bottom and then stared at her face.
"Wh… Why are you staring at me like that?" She was a bit nervous.
"Don't you have spare clothes?"
"I don't."
"Use magic to…"
"It's magic, not science." She sighed.
So it seems like even magic has its own limitations. Those fantasy manga lied to me.
After taking a shower, I went to my room and sat on my bed. I closed my eyes for a bit due to my exhaustion. I felt the mattress near my right hand go down slightly.
I opened my eyes and glanced at Lilith sitting beside me. She wasn't staring at me though.
I had some queries regarding the contract and decided to ask her about them.
"So, like you know the memory null state you told me about?"
"Hmm… what about it?" She looked at me.
"What if there was a photograph of me and Tomose? What will happen to that?"
"Depends on the context of the photo and her feelings regarding that photograph. If it isn't of much importance, she will forget about it and the photo won't have your image in it anymore."
"Interesting." I thought. So this contract could indeed alter reality. More like removing my record of an incident from the akashic records.
"Exactly," I turned my head towards her and she was resting her chin on her palm while glancing at me. She looked delighted by my theory.
Her eyes. I hate those eyes staring at me like that. Reminds me of 'her' eyes.
"So...Is it like that?"
"Kind of Yes." She smiled.
"But at the end of that, I can simply say that the vessel's will lose all their feelings for me, right? Yet they will vaguely remember the small moments which we spent together." I asked for her affirmation.
"Yes, the main twist is how this contract affects the people who aren't a vessel yet they were indirectly or directly involved in a certain given incident." She explained.
Sabotaging human emotions and altering the laws of reality. This contract was indeed interesting.
