Soul for a Girlfriend?

Chapter 3 - The Contract

"Wait, what contract are you talking about?" I asked, as she has mentioned this word frequently.

"I will tell you, get dressed first. I don't really feel comfortable talking with a naked teenager."- she pretended to cover her eyes.

What a bitch! You were to one barge in on me taking a shower.

I ran my hands through my hair as I tried to calm myself down and tried to get a grip on the situation.

I got out of the shower and put on my black sweatpants. And was searching for a T-shirt in the wardrobe.

There's nothing to be afraid of. It's just that someone broke into my bathroom. To be specific, a girl broke in on me taking a shower. Now for many people this would be like a dream, but this is a nightmare. Especially her eyes. They are creepy.

"Come on, my eyes aren't creepy. I think it's one of my beautiful features." I heard her voice.

She appeared behind me with a smug on her face.

"So what contract?" I said in an indifferent tone, to hide the fact that I was scared out of my wits.

"You seem awfully calm for a person who was terrified a few moments ago."

Of course, I'm calm apparently. I don't know what this situation is, so I have to be calm rather than panicking. But I can't think of anything because she can read my mind.

One thing I was sure of was that it was real.

"Well, you said that you won't hurt me."- I narrowed my eyes on her..

"I did, and you trusted me that easily? Humans are indeed interesting creature."- she giggled.

I wore my white t-shirt again and asked her about the contract.

"You said that I have to make girls fall for me or you'll trade my soul?"

She slowly walked over to my bed and sat down on it, crossing her legs, and nodded.

What does she even mean by trading souls?

"I don't remember signing any contract with anyone."

"Kärlek är trots allt en lidande krus." She said something and smiled at me.

It sounded really familiar to me. I have heard this somewhere but I couldn't seem to recall it. It was fresh inside my mind, but I couldn't tell what it was.

"Can't remember it right?" She stood up and came closer to me.

"Love is a curse of suffering." as she said that it seemed to spark a small memory inside me. I remember it now, it was from a book I read recently. There was a line in that book.

Kärlek är trots allt en lidande krus.

"Seems like you are recalling it now." she held my left hand. Her touch was freezing, but soft at the same time.

"How is it related to the contract?"

"When you read that line, you agreed to a contract with me." Our eyes met.

"But I didn't know about this. How can this be a contract if you didn't even ask for my consent?"

"This is a contract from hell. You think we care for your puny consent?" She laughed.

A contract and they don't even ask for consent from both parties? I was getting irritated.

"Then I refuse." I slapped her hand off mine.

She stood on her tiptoes and whispered something in my ears. "Refusing isn't a choice here, Sakamaki-kun."

The edges of her lips curved to form a smile. She seemed to enjoy tormenting a human.

"Well, I won't do it. You can do whatever you want."- I said as I looked at her and myself lying down beside her.

Wait, what the hell? That's me. This isn't a third-person game, why can I look at myself?

"When I said about trading your soul. I wasn't lying." She laughed devilishly.

I couldn't believe my eyes. My lifeless body was lying still on the floor in front of me. My eyes were wide open, but there was no shine in the irises. Why is this happening to me? A chill ran down my spine.

I felt a pain in my neck. I was again inside my body and Lilith was looking at me. She was an actual devil, and I somehow ended up in a death wish.

"You chose the most unsuitable person for this contract."- I stood up and touched my hair. Yes, I could feel the soft texture of my hair. I felt my heart beating again as I touched my chest. I was actually in my body.

"I don't even know what love means, and you expect me to make girls fall for me?"

She looked at me in confusion.

"Basically, I'll die."

"You don't have any other choice. Abide by the contract and I will guarantee you life."

"I don't trust a single thing out of your mouth."

"I'm a devil of my words. The rest is up to you."- she narrowed her eyes.

"So this is inevitable death for me."

"This contract has chosen you, which means you have the potential to fulfil this."

"This contract is contradicting itself by choosing someone who doesn't meet the basic requirement of this contract."

"What do you mean?"

"I don't feel love. I don't understand love."

"This contract is about making others fall for you, not you falling for others."

She was confusing me on purpose; I guess. She was playing with her words. If she was a human, I could've understood her ulterior motives, but it's impossible to cold read a devil.

"Don't peek inside my mind."

Shit, I forgot she can read my mind. I've been dragged into being a play doll for a sadistic devil.

"I'm not sadistic."- Lilith pouted. "Or am I?" she laughed.

She is crazy.

"Ok, can you explain the contract?"- she said the contract chose me because it sensed potential in me. I guess I have to try it.

I don't want to die so young. I haven't even finished the anime I started yesterday.

She again had a smug look on her face. "The contract will choose specific girls for you, and your task is to make them fall in love with you."

"Random girls? How am I even supposed to- nevermind."

"See, you're getting a hold of this." She chuckled.

"But why? Making girls fall for me? What's the point?" I tilted my head and narrowed my eyes at her.

"Your targets have a lot of negative energy in them. They may seem normal from outside, but from inside they are just a hollow vessel for demons."- Lilith was plodding around me, playfully.

"Basically, they can get possessed by demons?" she nodded.

"But isn't it like possessing humans something demons want?"

"I don't know what you know about us. But all the scripts in the human realm are wrong." She laughed.

"So I have to save them from getting possessed, right?" She nodded.

This was really weird. Why would a demon want help from a human to stop demon activities? I am slowly getting her point, but there were a lot of discrepancies in her statements.

I feel like she's hiding something. Well, I couldn't care less about that. Now that I have a grasp on this contract, I will try my best to not die before I finish that anime.

"You'll get your first target tomorrow morning. Sleep tight Sakamaki-kun." She gave a small smile and a thumbs-up sign with her left arm.
