Chapter 56
Before the little assistant could react to that, he could hear Geng Hongyu's annoyed voice coming through the not-too-sound-proof wall –
"What do you mean you can't do it because it is too intimate?! How is sitting on someone's lap intimate? We've even filmed the scene with you kissing Wang Wuya. Now you are telling me about this scene being intimate?!"
The little field service person who had yet to walk away, gave Luo Xiu a sympathetic look before he quickly walked away.
Stiffened for a few second, the little assistant finally had it all figured it out. He turned around in surprise and asked in a low voice. "So your method is to stay out of it and have Zong Shizi deal with the director team?"
Luo Xiu neither confirmed nor denied it.
Something caused him to not sleep well last night and he was dispirited today. Furthermore, he was not able to take a power nap when there were others around. He was a little tired.
The little assistant was very excited in comparison. "Using this method, only those on Zong Shizi's side would have an idea about your powerful background and you will be able to hide that from everybody else on the production team."
"Mmhmm." Luo Xiu replied casually.
The little assistant failed to notice his boss's perfunctory tone and were still going on and on about it. "Judging from the reaction from that field service guy, they must be feeling sympathetic toward you for being resented by Zong Shizi and refusing to cooperate either because you don't have very high standing or other reasons. Nobody would suspect that this was all your idea to begin with – sure enough, you were right. This is, indeed, the cleanest method!"
"No, it wasn't."
"… Oh?"
The excited little assistant felt his excitement being rained on. He asked, baffled, "Where did it have it wrong?"
"This is not the cleanest."
"Huh? This still isn't the cleanest? You have other ideas as well?"
"… …"
Reclining in his chair, Luo Xiu looked at the clouds that were painted a blood-red color from the setting sun in disinterest.
Under the warm and remaining sun at dusk, his side profile was a distance coldness. His voice low and seemingly caring about nothing.
"The cleanest way is to not let anyone who didn't know find out."
The little assistant was utterly baffled. "How could you achieve that?"
"Zhuo Yixuan."
The little assistant thought it through for a few seconds and was enlightened. But he was quickly baffled all over again. "In that case, why didn't you do just that?"
"… …"
Good point. Why didn't he?
Luo Xiu was asking himself the same question.
He ran into issues with his pre-bedtime meditation once again last night. It was still the same voice that had affected him except that the words were different this time.
[I love him.]
[Mr. Luo Xiu is m dream and that will never change!]
[Mr. Luo Xiu, are you interested in being in a relationship?]
So, why?
Why was it her?
"Gu Nian, you—"
"Don't try to stop me, Director Lin. I need to understand this issue."
A voice came from around the corner down the hallway along with quick footsteps.
The little assistant was surprised. "Brother Luo, it's… …"
Luo Xiu turned and looked.
"Gu Nian, cut it out! This is the director team's decision. We can't accommodate you every time. Director Geng has just had a change of heart about you. Please stop trying to ruin your own future, okay?"
"Per your own words, I am the acting screenwriter – if you want to change my script, it is my job to find out why that is."
"But you didn't come for yourself! So what if we take out one scene. What kind of a big shot do you think Luo Xiu is that we can't even take out one scene?"
"Taking out a scene is not the issue here!"
It was rare that the girl raised her normally languid voice for a change. Perhaps it was just an illusion, but her voice even seemed to break a little.
A kind of exasperation, anger or an emotion that resemble more of an urgent sadness filled every word coming from her. The genuineness in her voice was enough to touch another person.
"You've heard what they were saying about Luo Xiu in the production team! This goes beyond just Zong Shizi's professionalism. Her targeting Luo Xiu specifically and refusing to work with him will only make the malicious rumors worse. She can't do this!"
"You – all you know is to stand up for Luo Xiu. Do you even care about your own career?"
"… …"
After a few seconds of dead silence.
The girl's voice became determined and cold. "I have control over my own career and I need no favors or handouts from anyone – I don't need to fight over anything else nor do I care. But you guys cannot bully Luo Xiu like this!"
After she finished saying that, the footsteps restarted and reached them shortly.
Two pairs of eyes met each other around the corner.
Gu Nian's body stiffened up immediately.
Against the light coming from the conference room, Gu Nian looked into the pair of eyes that seemed to have some sort of deep and suppressed emotions within them that were struggling to break free. Or was that just an illusion?
"… … Luo Xiu?"
