zzzZZZ...

Chen Fei swore he just checked it for a second and then knew nothing else.

He slept until dawn, woken up by the alarm clock.

His vision was still cluttered:

"Illegal operation or incorrect command

Illegal operation or incorrect command

Illegal operation or incorrect command

Illegal operation or incorrect command

..."

He didn't dare to make any further moves.

What on earth happened last night?

Dare not think, dare not think...

His only consolation was that he had a good night's sleep, even without taking sleeping pills, and no unexplained headaches.

After washing up and grabbing something to eat, having fed the little bird a few energetic mealworms, Chen Fei left the dormitory with two pieces of bread and a whole chunk of stewed beef.

Since there was no fridge, bread could last a few days, but stewed meat couldn't last long and had to be eaten quickly.

He could always work at the canteen in the evening; Chef Abel wouldn't let him lose out.

Xiao Jiu flew around Chen Fei cheerfully, its flying ability changing daily—not only could it fly longer but also farther, sometimes landing on street lamps, sometimes on the nearby bushes, but quickly returning to perch on his shoulder, playfully pecking at his collar.

Just as he approached Hangar 1, a figure suddenly sprang out, blocking Chen Fei's path with a high-grade steel crowbar raised high, head and body wrapped in... Emmm... smelling the part.

"Kid..."

"Don't block the way!"

Bam!~

Chen Fei saw Sanjani, whom he had beaten to a bruised and swollen face the night before, fly out like a kite with its string cut, drifting six to seven meters away before rolling on the ground several times, ending up as a pile of mush too stunned to move, gazing at the sky, beginning to question his life.

Yikes!~ That looks rough!

Chen Fei's face showed sympathy.

A towering figure walked out of the hangar, casually waving an arm as if swatting a fly.

"Little Chen, did Squadron Leader Chekhov give you any trouble? If he dared, I'll take you to reason with him."

Chief Mechanic Xiao Ming clenched his fist, which cracked.

The mechanic was half Samoyed people, famous for their strength, and half of the same origin as Chen Fei. Chen Fei's ancestors were also good at reasoning, but they used various methods, adapting to local conditions, and were not rigid.

Last night, Chen Fei had "reasoned" with the guy currently lying on the ground just like this.

It has to be said that the guy's vitality was like a cockroach's, only overnight he had come back to life, lively enough to pick up a crowbar and seek revenge, not very lethal but truly bothersome.

"No, Squadron Leader Chekhov didn't give me a hard time; I've already been selected."

Chen Fei shivered and shook his head hastily.

With Chief Mechanic Xiao's size rivalling that of a big bear, if the two "reasoned" together, it would surely be a ground-shakingly explosive scenario, and that kind of reasoning would likely be man-to-man.

Xiao Ming snorted and said, "It seems this guy finally learned his lesson after I beat some sense into him. Our maintenance crew isn't to be trifled with."

Σ(°△°|||)︴

Chen Fei gaped at Chief Mechanic Xiao, realizing there was a lot of information in the big boss' words.

Could it be that Chief Xiao was the one who caught Chekhov last night with a bruised and swollen face?

Chief Mechanic Xiao fought beautifully!

Chief Mechanic Xiao fought splendidly!!

Chief Mechanic Xiao fought so well that it deserves a round of applause!!!

Chen Fei had long wanted to punch that Big Bear, but given his own combat power of just five, he was simply no match and had to swallow his anger. Unexpectedly, Big Brother Xiao avenged him and set an example by proving that he could not only repair planes but people as well.

It was a pity he had not witnessed the scene firsthand, or he would have definitely thrown flowers and cheered for Big Brother Xiao, "One, two, three, four, hit him once more, beat that stinky bear to death."

Xiao Ming seemed to have not noticed Chen Fei's extremely surprised expression, as if he had just done something trivial, and continued speaking with his usual expression: "I've already informed Manager Morris, not just about Chekhov's side, but also about the night shift apprentice job with the old man Neanderthal Barut. Have you made up your mind?

If you want to earn more, you'll have to work harder."

Gratefully, Chen Fei said, "I've made my decision, thank you, Chief Mechanic Xiao."

Watching one sheep or two is the same, considering he already took on jobs as a flyer for the Combat Flight Squadron and a two-hour helper for Chef Abel, adding a night shift at the Energy Tower isn't too much either.

During the day, he could juggle work with the mechanics group and the "Genuine Fragrance" Combat Flight Squadron, after work he could help in the kitchen, and then take over the night shift from the Neanderthal elder Barut. From a time perspective, there was no significant conflict, and it didn't affect sleeping, but it left virtually no free time for oneself.

For a poor man, probably only time is left to spare.

Having the chance to exchange time for money, for Chen Fei who had deep debts and nothing to his name, was naturally very willing.

Youth isn't a time to indulge in pleasure, one should work more and save money while energetic—even if not in debt.

"Chen…,"

Sanjani, leaning on a crowbar, had managed to stand up shakily while Chen Fei and Chief Mechanic Xiao Ming were talking.

An ominous shadow fell over them, and the sky darkened unexpectedly.

Both the freshly risen Sanjani and Chief Mechanic Xiao, who was preparing to shoo away the annoying "fly," simultaneously looked up at the sky.

The former let out a groan from the depths of his soul and began to scream heartbreakingly.

"'Phantom Cube-366MAX' Airship, it's a heavy transport airship! Good heavens!!"

Who would've thought he was truly an aviation enthusiast—he wasn't boasting at all and could even name the model.

Following the gaze of the two, Chen Fei also quickly opened his mouth wide in awe.

"It's huge!"

Seeing something on a screen or in print simply couldn't compare to witnessing it in person.

This large transport aircraft almost filled the entire sky, slowly approaching the ground, and a tremendous sense of oppression descended from above.

The air being pushed in all directions turned into gusts of wind that made it almost impossible to keep one's eyes open. Chen Fei quickly covered Little Bird on his shoulder, who was chirping anxiously, to shield it from being blown away by the sudden gale.

"It's finally here!"

The head of the mechanics team, Chief Mechanic Xiao Ming, remained as calm as ever, unfazed by the event.

"Chief Mechanic, you knew about this beforehand?"

Hearing Chief Mechanic Xiao's words, Chen Fei turned around puzzled.

Xiao Ming nodded and said, "It's classified. Only the executive manager and a few middle managers are privy to it. Go and inform them that Aircrew Base's new fighter jets have arrived."

"Right away!"

Chen Fei sprinted towards Hangar No. 1.

No sooner had he left than Sanjani, still clutching his crowbar, for some reason staggered toward the main runway, tripped after a few steps, and crashed to the ground, but as if oblivious to pain, he rolled over and got back up, continuing his rush forward.

"Sanjani, what are you doing? Get the hell away from the runway now! Don't come close to the runway!"

The control tower, closest to the main runway, quickly spotted this adrenaline-driven guy and started shouting through the loudspeaker.

Nearest security personnel chased after him, furious and frantic.

As they were chasing, and before anyone could react, a dozen meteors, shimmering with blue light, suddenly shot out from under the large transport aircraft and plummeted toward the ground.

Just before hitting the ground, a visible blast of air exploded from around them, and the meteors landed smoothly. As the blue light faded, they revealed light grey exoskeleton Tactical Armor, each wielding a Railgun Combat Rifle, blocking Sanjani's path.

The 911 Aircrew Base security personnel who were pursuing Sanjani immediately slowed down, eyeing the fast-descending Airship Marine Corps soldiers with a mix of awe and uncertainty.

This was a fully equipped tactical squad armed to the teeth.

It was not a part of the Apocalypse Defense Group's forces, nor did it belong to any military contractor; along with the slowly descending airship, they were part of the official combat lineup.

No wonder countries didn't worry about military contractors rebelling. The arms and equipment available to private enterprises were not just a generation behind that of a regular national defense army, and if they dared harbor any ulterior motives, they would be crushed into dust in minutes.

"Raise your hands, don't move!"

Several thin green guiding laser beams landed on Sanjani, who had hastily stopped in his tracks, with at least four points of light on his forehead alone.
