Chapter 17: Gathering 10,000 Copper Coins?
Chapter 17: Gathering 10,000 Copper Coins?
With his [Rusty Sword] on hand, Sakim intended to attack the monsters one by one. He wasn't sure how strong the monsters were or what was their level. But one thing for sure was that their strength and level wouldn't go so far as to make him completely helpless of fighting back.
In some distance, there was a lone monster leisurely sleeping around. As if not caring whether he was there or not. Seeing this made Sakim a little happy as he walked in that direction.
If he didn't put his attention towards it, he would really neglect the fact that it was actually a monster for it was almost no different than an ordinary bush.
Its entire body was as if covered in green leaves but it was actually its furs that resembled leaves. Its body size was a meter diameter and was almost round in shape. Its height was about his waist.
If not for the fact that its long and thin vine-like tail was swinging left and right from time to time, Sakim would really think that it was really a bush.
After making several steps, he reached his distance towards the monster as he hesitated to attack. Was he able to kill this monster? Would he alarm the other monsters nearby if he attacked this one? What if this monster was far stronger than him, would he still survive?
Many thoughts flooded in his mind as his grip on his sword became even tighter.
He swept his gaze on his surroundings and saw the other monsters that also seemed sleeping and not caring about his existence. As if he was so insignificant that waking up to take a glance at him was too much of a bother.
"Hmph!" Sakim didn't care if those monsters were looking down at him. All he wanted right now was to gather 10,000 copper coins so that he could teleport to the Wolf Village already. And the only way to do that was to slay monsters!
But of course, he didn't get careless. He slowly reached his hand towards the certain monster in front of him to see what kind of monster was that. And as he'd expected, the System popped up once again with a window of information detailing the monster.
He learned that only by having physical contact with the things in this world could he gain their information through the System. It really was much better if he could just use his sight to allow him to see their information.
But seeing the information of the monster right now, Sakim heaved a sigh of relief. It appeared that this monster's strength and level were still within his scope of capability.
[Tailed Bush]
Rank: Common
Level: 8
HP: 300 | 300
"Level 8?" But thinking about it now, why was it that the first monster he encountered was level 8 instead of level 1? Did he really land in the middle of the woods where the higher level of monsters was around?
Sakim retracted his hand while still thinking where he really was. But knowing that it was pointless, he readied himself to attack the monster instead.
Slowly, he raised his sword with both of his hands and directed it against the Tailed Bush ready to slash at any moment. With a deep breath, he then finally drew his sword against the Tailed Bush as his [Rusty Sword] cut through it.
Swoosh!
HP: 250 | 300
He saw the HP bar of the monster displayed on the System and realized that he could deal 50 attack damage. His strength stat was currently 7 so it only meant that he had attack damage of 70. But he only dealt 50 damage so it meant that the monster had 20 defense.
No, his [Rusty Sword] had also some stat, it would probably give him some attack damage so it was unsure whether the monster really had only a 20 defense or whether he could only deal 70 attack damage. Sakim was still planning to continue his onslaught when suddenly, the monster had woke up and slowly turned around to look at the fool who attack it.
Sakim watched the monster in wary. He raised his sword as he prepared to defend himself.
As the monster had finally turned around, it didn't only stay on glaring at him. The monster was angered that it immediately jumped towards him ready to slam him at any moment.
It wasn't that fast so Sakim could still dodge by taking a sidestep. The Tailed Bush went past onto him as he successfully dodged. But seeing the monster had managed to make a small hole on the ground of where it landed, his heart skipped a beat as he really wondered what kind of meat paste would he possibly formed into if that kind of attack hit him.
But thinking that the monster wouldn't let itself be killed by him without a fight, Sakim removed all the distracting thoughts as he focused only on the fight. He swept his gaze around for a moment and noticed that the other Tailed Bush nearby still didn't care about what was happening.
Seeing this, Sakim heaved a sigh of relief. It appeared that he wouldn't have to fight all of them at the same time and had only aggroed this monster he currently facing.
Without waiting for the monster to turn around, Sakim dashed forward and skillfully slashed his sword diagonally as if an expert swordsman he saw in many movies.
Swoosh!
He was so fast, or at least that was what he imagined. His sword slashed towards its body as he successfully dealt another 50 damage. But Sakim didn't wait for the monster to turn around and didn't give the enemy any chance to counterattack as he slashed his sword once again towards its body.
Swoosh! Swoosh!
Two slashes! The monster's HP dropped to 100 as Sakim couldn't help but let out a smile. But this time, the monster also didn't wait to be killed that easily. Though it was a little slow and couldn't turn around that fast to see its enemy, its tail was long enough to make it as its whip.
That being said, it swung its tail against Sakim as Sakim immediately raised his sword to protect himself from the incoming attack. But it appeared that he really didn't know how to use a sword and he wasn't too used in a physical fight. He only knew how to destroy people's lives through his words and not by making a move himself. The last time he fought physically was probably in his youth days.
But this time, he was forced to fight desperately. What even worse was that it wasn't against people, but a monster.
When Sakim raised his sword, the tail of the monster still hit him from the side. Though it hit the sword as well, the tail could bend and still managed to hit him.
Sakim was forced to step backward from the sudden attack. He felt that it dealt some damage to him.
HP: 6,500 | 6,600
Sure enough, his HP bar dropped a little and it appeared that the monster's strength was actually twice stronger than him. Fortunately, his HP was more than 20 times greater than the monster. Even if it was a fight of attrition, the first to wear down was definitely his enemy.
Just by the thought of it made Sakim let out another smile. He then dashed forward and tried his best to dodge its tail. He wasn't too far away from the monster so just by taking a few steps, he reached his distance towards the monster and immediately stabbed his sword against it as his [Rusty Sword] had pierced its body.
To his surprise, the remaining 100 HP of the monster had dropped to zero with just one attack. He thought that he still needed two attacks to kill the monster but it appeared that there was no need for it anymore. The monster had finally fallen from his hand. It was his first real fight against a monster as well as his first kill
The matters about him killing the Hidden Boss couldn't be considered a fight for he knew that he just killed the dying Hidden Boss through his passive skill.
But now, he didn't rely on his passive skill for he was trying out his physical strength against the enemy and it appeared that he was still stronger than the monster.
"!"
However, what he never expected was what he was seeing right now,
[You killed the Tailed Bush. You received 100 exp and 10 copper coins.]
Sakim only got 10 coppers by killing the monster. If this went this way he needed to kill at least 1,000 of this monster to have 10,000 copper coins and use the Heartstone.
Just how cruel was this world to let him have so much of a difficulty? Just thinking about it a little could make Sakim a little light-headed.
So trying his best to calm himself down, Sakim took a deep breath as he focused his attention towards the monster that was now had turned into ashes with some of its remains left. He walked closer onto it to see if there were any more drops but to his dismay, it seemed like there was nothing he could find. It appeared that the drop rate of the items from the normal monsters really was so low.
Learning about this, Sakim stood up and turned his gaze to the many monsters lying leisurely around. Just how long would he be able to kill enough monsters to get the 10,000 copper coins? Just by killing a single monster took him more than a minute to finish but 1,000 monsters? Even a few hours couldn't be enough for he was sure as well that his energy wouldn't last too long and would eventually be drained.
"What should I do now..." Sakim shifted his gaze towards the Heartstone as he noticed something behind, not too far away from it.
He didn't notice it earlier since there were a lot of towering trees around or probably, there was an illusion preventing him to see through it. But now that he put more attention towards it, there was actually a towering cliff ahead.
Sakim wasn't sure if that was just an illusion but his curiosity beat him so he went past the Heartstone and walked towards the cliff he was seeing.
Sure enough, it wasn't an illusion. It really was a cliff. At the foot of it was a deep cave and many of some kind of fire were floating inside. Sakim wasn't too sure if he should go there but knowing that killing a thousand monsters alone took a long time, he intended to go in there for he was thinking of having another way of going to the Wolf Village.
