Chapter 43: Chapter 43: First Meeting
After familiarizing himself with the new villa, Song Yun planned to make this place the residence where he and Ye Qingqing would truly become husband and wife.
Song Yun, with an unfinished Zheng Wang in tow, stepped out of the villa, and as soon as they exited, they saw a middle-aged man coming out of the number five villa across the street.
This middle-aged man looked no different from the neighborly uncle, except for an impressive air of composure settled on his face over the years.
"Hello," Song Yun said with a smile and a nod in greeting.
"Are you the new resident of number six?" the middle-aged man asked curiously, sizing up Song Yun. In his memory, neither Magic Capital nor the entirety of Hua Country had such a young and wealthy individual.
"Yes, I just came over today to check out the house."
"Hmm, owning such a big business at such a young age is quite impressive. May I ask who your father is?"
"Hehe, we're just an ordinary family," Song Yun replied.
The middle-aged man paused, then patted Song Yun on the shoulder. Although the young man was wealthy, he didn't come off as arrogant and didn't have the pompous, showy tendencies of ordinary people. He seemed like a pretty decent young fellow.
Excited to meet a commendable young talent, the middle-aged man invited Song Yun to sit together at the coffee shop in the community.
Song Yun readily agreed, while Zheng Wang left ahead of them.
The two of them walked into the coffee shop one after the other. The middle-aged man ordered a cup of black coffee, no milk, no sugar. The bitter smell was pervasive as soon as it was served, but after getting used to it, one could detect a hint of rich aroma.
This made Song Yun unable to resist trying one himself.
"The coffee beans here are a global selection, and the process is also personally crafted by a famous barista. It's worth a try," the middle-aged man suggested as he motioned for Song Yun to sip slowly.
No sooner had Song Yun touched it to his lips than he tasted bitterness—extreme bitterness!
Yet, after swallowing, there was a lingering fragrance in his mouth that made him yearn for another sip.
"Actually, there's a way to make coffee taste even better. Would you like to give it a try?" the middle-aged man raised his eyebrows at Song Yun, appearing like a mischievous old child.
Then he scooped a little coffee with a spoon and gently sucked it into his mouth.
As he sipped, a sizzling sound emerged.
For someone who valued their image, such an action would undoubtedly be difficult to perform in public.
However, Song Yun had only been off the farm a few months ago and didn't care about the gaze of others. He quickly followed suit.
And indeed, as the coffee fully mixed with the air, its fragrance spread immediately. The tiny sips of coffee, like raindrops, tantalized the taste buds, suddenly filling the mouth with a delightful aroma.
With his face beaming with smiles, the middle-aged man looked at him. It seemed this young man was really worth getting to know.
"After sitting for so long, I still don't know your name," Song Yun asked curiously as he put down his coffee cup.
"I'm rather informal; you can just call me Uncle Ye."
Indeed, this man was none other than Ye Qingqing's father.
"Uncle Ye, how long have you been living here?"
Ye Qingqing's father waved his hand and said, "This place is just one of my investments. My home isn't here. I came today to stash away some of my private money."
Hearing this, Song Yun and Ye Qingqing's father looked at each other and burst into laughter.
"Young man, I think highly of you, what do you do for a living?"
Seeing Song Yun's handsome appearance and the aristocratic air of a man from a prestigious family, Ye's father was intrigued.
His own daughter was all grown up, and finding someone she liked or who was a good match in terms of family background was extremely difficult. He hadn't expected to come across someone today. This young man looked a lot like himself when he was younger; maybe his daughter would like him?
"I run a little business, but it doesn't really make much money."
"Too much modesty is pride," Ye's father said to Song Yun with a laugh as he pointed at him.
So the two of them started chatting pleasantly. While they talked, Ye's father grew more astonished; this young man had such a clear and profound understanding of the global situation and economic development, which sparked his appreciation for talent.
When the topic moved to stocks, Ye's father said with a smile, "I recently just bought some stock in Baishan Pharmaceutical, what do you think about that?"
Ye's father was quite experienced when it came to investing. Baishan Pharmaceutical's stock had been lukewarm on the market, but its competitor, Longshan Pharmaceutical's herb cultivation base, had been hit with heavy rains recently. Many valuable herbs had been soaked and were unusable as medicine. This was a sign.
In the struggle between the two companies, Baishan Pharmaceutical was bound to gain the upper hand in the short term, and its stock would rise again and again.
After listening to Ye's father, Song Yun thought for a moment and then shook his head, "It's okay to hold for the short term, but I wouldn't recommend you stretch out your position."
Truth be told, Ye's father was quite optimistic about this investment. Whenever he talked about it with friends in the circle, they would praise him, making him feel as if his edge had not dulled with age.
But now, this optimism had been challenged by the young Song Yun, which caused Ye's father to frown slightly, "Can you give me a reason why?"
Song Yun also paid attention to market trends on a regular basis. He pulled out his phone and pulled up a piece of news.
The news essentially said that the state was going to include several of Longshan Pharmaceutical's drugs in the medical insurance coverage.
This meant that the market share of those drugs was set to expand significantly.
Then Song Yun opened another piece of news, which stated that Longshan Pharmaceutical had acquired three herb cultivation bases a month ago. Even if the original cultivation base was completely ruined, they still had a way to source good quality herbs.
However, these news items had been drowned out by press releases published online by Baishan Pharmaceutical, which painted a picture of Longshan Pharmaceutical being about to run out of medicines, in order to suppress their stock price.
After reading, Ye's father pondered carefully and sighed.
He had fallen prey to the greatest pitfall of the investment world, which was arrogance!
With more investment experience, it was easy to adopt this bad habit. Once invested, one would only trust what they had seen, instead of seeking the truth.
This was a big taboo.
Looking at Song Yun with admiration, Ye's father asked, "Then what stock do you think is a good investment?"
Ye's father thought Song Yun would mention internet companies or some other emerging industry, but to his great surprise, Song Yun actually recommended a company from the manufacturing industry, and what's more, it was in a sunset industry!
Seeing Ye's father's puzzled look, Song Yun did not explain much, because he had already bought fifty million worth of stock in this group, just waiting for it to appreciate in value.
"How about this, I'll take another look when I get back. As for Baishan Pharmaceutical that you reminded me of, I will sell all of it when it hits the limit. Thank you for today, you saved me from losing my entire nest egg."
Ye's father didn't dwell on this topic. The two of them shifted the conversation to other subjects.
And just like that, three hours passed by without them noticing. Ye's father suddenly came to his senses, looked at his watch, and apologized, "I'm sorry, I need to get home to cook for the kid's mother. Let's get together again when we have the chance."
"Alright."
This conversation was not only thoroughly enjoyable for Ye's father, but Song Yun also gained much from it. It appeared that this Uncle Ye was a truly capable person, no wonder he could afford a villa in Jun Le.
