Chapter 1166: Witch magic
Chapter 1166: Witch magic
After a while, the same two bouncers from before came in with a plate of food and some drinks for us.
It seemed that it would still take some time for Puffer to get the things that I asked for, so we would just have to wait.
Ariel didn't seem to notice at all that food had been brought in as she was still lost in thought. Then all of a sudden, she looked at me and said, "What do you know about the sea witches?"
I was caught off guard by this, but I calmly said, "I don't know that much. I just have some understanding of them because of their dealings with the human countries before. I don't know as much as you think I do."
Ariel narrowed her eyes to look at me as if she didn't believe me, but I just calmly looked right back at her without any traces of emotion.
I wouldn't give her anything, even if she was scrutinizing me.
This was something that I was already used to from my time dealing with my wives.
There were times where I pulled on my knowledge from the game which made them suspicious and I would always act like I didn't know a thing. After a while, I had gotten to a point where I could even do this without even batting an eye.
Since she wasn't able to get anything from me, it seemed like Ariel wasn't happy.
But she didn't do anything in the end and seemingly dropped the matter as she picked up one of the plates to start eating. It was as if she was using the food to drown her anger, but I knew that it wouldn't be that simple.
I just calmly picked up my food and started eating as I watched her out of the corner of my eyes.
It was just that what she did was not something that I had expected from her.
Ariel didn't say a thing as we waited for Puffer to come back.
Even when they brought our meals, she would silently take the food and didn't say anything to the bouncers.Nôv(el)B\\jnn
It was almost as if she was pretending that they didn't exist, which the bouncers didn't mind since their only job was to bring food for us.
Though I did also ask them for a clock so I could tell how much time passed.
It took an entire half a day for Puffer to come back.
We had arrived early in the morning and it was already late into the evening when she finally came back.
Puffer didn't seem to care at all about how much time she took.
When she came back, she just calmly said, "I've found them and it seems like they're willing to talk to you."
Though as she said this, she turned to look at Ariel as if this matter was related to her.
It seemed like there was something that she wanted to say and eventually she did say it, "It seems that the former crown prince is interested in the princess which is why he agreed to meet with you."
I gave a nod in response since this was what I had already been expecting.
This was also part of the reason why I brought Ariel along with me in the first place, otherwise it would have been easier for me to move alone.
It was just that Ariel threw a curveball that I never expected.
Before I could even say anything, she suddenly said, "There's something that I want to discuss with you."
She wasn't talking to me, she was talking to Puffer.
Puffer and I both looked at her with a surprised look since neither of us expected her to suddenly take the initiative like this. At the same time, there were traces of curiosity in our expressions since we didn't know what she was planning.
After a moment of silence, as if she was gathering her thoughts, Ariel suddenly said, "I want you to teach me magic. I'm willing to pay as long as you teach me the magic of the sea witches."
"Huh?" Both Puffer and I had confused looks on our faces after hearing this.
After all, neither of us had expected Ariel to say something like this.
I looked at Puffer and she looked at me, both showing confused looks.
This told us that neither of us had expected Ariel to suddenly say something like this, so we both slowly turned back to look at Ariel with the same confused looks.
Ariel didn't seem to care as she looked at Puffer with determination.
There was an awkward moment of silence before Puffer asked, "Why do you want me to teach you magic? It's the one thing that your Merman Empire looks down on, so if you learn the magic of us sea witches..."
She left her sentence hanging, but the implication behind it was clear.
Ariel just calmly looked back at her and explained her thought process.
"Since I was young, I was told that the sea witches were bad. However, it turns out that this was just the biased opinion of my parents and the Merman Empire. I want to know more about the sea witches, so I want to learn about your magic, your way of life, and everything else. I hope that you will teach me."
It was a moment of growth for Ariel to admit something like this, it was just that this was probably the worst time to propose something like this.
Or at least that was what I thought as I tried to figure out a way to mediate between them.
But all of a sudden, the confused look disappeared from Puffer's face and she suddenly broke out in laughter.
This laughter didn't seem like it was the laugh of someone who was offended and angry, it seemed like it was the laugh of someone who was genuinely amused by the situation.
At the same time, it also seemed like there was a trace of admiration in that laugh.
