Chapter 34 - Delicious Meal
Their weapons were all useless against the beast. No matter how much they pushed themselves there was no way that they were going to survive this trial. They could consider themselves lucky that Klautz entered the trial at the same time as them.
Dant walked towards Blair. With a dangling right arm and no weapons to speak of all, he could do was stand at the corner of the room and wait for his friends to somehow kill the beast. No one had their attention on him including Verona who was busy shooting arrows.
Blair's eyes shook in fear. He was seeing his friends fight tooth and nail. But...
"Will they survive?" he asked himself.
He bit his nail but there was no answer. He felt unease, a sense of foreboding.
Dant walked closer and closer to him, but Blair hadn't noticed his presence. All he could think of was the beast. He was worried. After all their survival depended on the loss and victory of this battle.
"Hey, what are you doing here? Move your ass and fight!"
Blair turned his head to find Dant. His eyes shot wide. He didn't fail to hear what Dant said.
"Me? But… but my arm!"
He took a step back as he sputtered. Innocent as always he wasn't able to figure out Dant's true motives.
"Why should I care? You are responsible for losing your weapon and arm. You should have fought more cautiously! Now, what do you want me to do? Huh? Play a doctor for you? What do you want huh? Do you want to just sit here with your sorry ass while we fight for you? If you want to continue being of use then go fight!"
Dant was cold with his comments. Not giving him any leeway. Dant wanted him to enter the fray and the rest would play out automatically.
Meanwhile, Blair's left hand shook with fear. If his right arm would have been fine then it would be probably shaking too. He wanted to come up with a better excuse on one hand but on the other hand, he was confused.
'How am I supposed to fight? And why is Dant acting so cruel all of a sudden?'
Dant wanted him to fight. But how was he going to fight with no arm on him? His left arm wasn't his dominant not to mention that he had already lost his weapons to the white serpent.
The beast didn't seem to be damaged by regular weapons let alone his not so dominant hand.
Blair shook his head.
"How can I fight in this state?"
Dant knitted his brows. He flared his nostrils to show his anger.
"You dare talk back," Dant scoffed. "I don't care how you do it just do it! Like everybody else! Why should we risk our lives for you in the first place?"
Dant pushed Blair towards the beast. The unaware Blair was caught off guard as he stumbled falling right close to where the beast was bellowing.
Kristie and Bret who were continuously trying to attack the beast from behind due to its large horns failed to notice when Blair went in front of it.
Only Verona realized causing her eyes to grow wide. But she was too far away and there was no way she could do anything to help the kid.
Klautz who was hiding behind the cloud smiled. This was exactly what he was waiting for.
"It's time" he whispered to himself.
The time for him to act had come faster than he had expected. Who would have thought that Dant would be so selfish as to push a child into death? And worse he was about to become the food of a beast! Alas, there was no God to save the kid in hell. At least that Klautz knew of.
"Ah!" Being pushed away and his body falling on his limping hand a sharp pain shot through his spine which made him scream. Tears started rolling cause of the pain he was experiencing.
The scream caused the immediate attention of the beast to focus on him. Luck was not on his side. The beast was drooling away
He fumbled trying to get up. He hadn't realized that there was no point in getting up. His life was already close to its end.
The beast opened its mouth wide as its splinter like teeth made its debut for the world to see. It ducked low and grasped the head of Blair in its teeth.
Blair who was not even able to make a cry of protest died as the beast crushed his head. All of his pain and suffering ended in a single moment.
The beast's teeth sank more and more into his skull just like a chopstick sinks in a cooked marshmallow, ready to be eaten.
*Crack*
The skull cracked open. The beast's teeth were strong enough to pierce through them. Little by little his whole head squished, his eyes popped out and his grey matter leaked out with all the fluids along with it.
"Ah!" Verona screamed as she covered her eyes. She couldn't bring herself to see that horrid scene that was happening in front of her.
Meanwhile, Bret wondered what had happened to make her scream. But, he chose not to check as he was somehow trying to kill the beast even though his weapons had no effect. It was quite a while later that he realized that the beast wasn't struggling much and all of his attacks were connecting. Before the beast was squirming so much that he couldn't even land proper hits. After all at the moment the beast was having its long awaited meal.
Bret raised his brows in suspicion.
'There seems to be something wrong. Is it him again?' he thought thinking of Klautz.
He ran to the front to check out only to find his friend being eaten.
*Thud*
