Chapter 290 - Weakest Link
"Where am I?" Colt squeaked as he scanned the room around him.
He had been lying on a hospital bed and many such similar white beds lay in two adjacent rows in that very room. And in those beds lay other patients who were much more badly injured compared to him.
"Aren't they…"
Colt frowned. The thought of lying in the same manner in the room as the newbies disgusted him. But surprisingly, the newbies that lay in those beds weren't new faces. He had met all of them before albeit he hadn't even exchanged their names.
'They are the ones I have fought before, aren't they?'
He had beaten them black and blue without holding back, creating the best show possible. And now, here he was, lying in the same state as them. It was as if karma had knocked him hard and was now looking back at him.
"What am I doing here?"
Colt knitted his brows. Why should he be in the same room as them? It didn't really make any sense.
Colt held onto his head as little by little his brain came back to functioning. The events prior to him falling conscious became fresh as his eyes shot out wide.
"Fuck! I messed up."
His pupils shook as he stood up and began charging aimlessly. But his steps soon came to a halt as he realized that he didn't know where exactly he had to go…
The first thought that had come to his mind was to go ahead and kill Klautz. He was caught off guard in the showdown. Not to mention that one cannot use lethal moves there but that couldn't be said about a normal scenario right?
But the more that he thought about it, the more he thought otherwise.
More than anger, what he felt at the moment was utter fear. The fear of losing each and everything he had built so far. He wasn't afraid of Klautz, rather he was afraid of getting demoted instead.
"What can I do to secure it now?"
He was running against time. If he doesn't do something before the newbie camp ends and his peers hit the level cap then he would be as good as over.
"Damn! Is there no way to revert this?"
Had such a thing occurred in private. He would have silenced all of the witnesses. A little money might have done the trick but he would have killed them instead.
But what was he to make of the situation like this? Hundreds of people had watched the match. How many would he bribe? How many would he kill? Does he have the qualifications to oppress such a large chunk of people? There were some people who could have done it, but he was definitely not among them.
'If some people were to support me, then it could have been possible. But with my bold step earlier all of them have become my enemies at best.'
Colt whimpered as he circled around the room.
Colt felt like he should just kill himself and put an end to all of the bullshit that was going on with his life.. Everything had turned against him, all of his options were closed off, there was nothing that he could use. His brain ran like horses but it stumbled and fell over and over again.
He felt helpless beyond repair causing his face to turn white and pale.
It was then…
His pupils shook as a certain dark thought crept up on his mind. It was something that he would have never considered before.
"Leverages…"
The only way out of all of it seemed to be to acquire enough of a leverage and forcefully secure his position in the guild… the one which he would be losing anytime soon. It was just a matter of the news travelling to them.
But, where would he get such a leverage?
'Why? Of course it is here, itself.'
Everyone knew what the purpose of the newbie camp was. Though not all knew of its dark side. It housed all of the newbies of the year along with the offsprings of the most influential powerhouses of hell.
It was definitely the weakest link of human society that resided in hell!
It went without saying that there was a huge chunk of people who were sentimental in regards to anything with the newbies.
After all, they were the closest link they had to earth. They were the only way for them to rejuvenate those memories of earth… the ones that they had long forgotten. They couldn't help but latch onto it. How could they forget it?
Everyone fought just so that they could once return back to earth. It was the foundation of all of their motivations, for no one wanted to live in hell.
Not to mention that the second gen that arrived here due to their young and lack of experience selves were also the weakest side of hell. They were no better than the newbies.
It was just their birth that gave them power and also made them the best possible hostages and leverages. Where could one find a better way to control all of the powerhouses of hell in such an easy manner?
It is considered that a group is only as strong as their weakest link. Didn't this apply here the best? What would happen if they were to be captured. All of humanity would fall with just a single move!
"But it won't be easy to mess around."
Colt's pale and lifeless eyes refocused. He knew the direction his thoughts were going but it was literally his only way. His only chance.
It went without saying that he could only attend the newbie camp only once in his entire lifetime! If he didn't make use of this opportunity he would never be able to make a comeback let alone hope for any increase in his privileges.
