Shinobi From Hell

Chapter 253 - Who's The Fox?

"Who's she?"

Colt asked with squinting eyes as they traveled onto the companion. The presence of a third party indeed brought him some curiosity.

Selena could only smile wryly, not bothering to respond. Or rather she wasn't given any chance.

The question wasn't directed towards her anyway. It was for Shizu. Disrespect for anyone and everyone was clearly written on his face. Or maybe it was just because she was earth born?

'Considering the earlier show at the plaza, it seems that all of them are the same,' Selena thought as she recalled the series of events since morning.

Little did she know that the cause of Colt's frown wasn't her or any of the other newbies. But it was Shizu instead. Selena could hardly be aware of what was going on between those two.

The tension was stiff enough and she could feel it. She had no idea how the second gen worked but she didn't believe it was pleasant.

Shizu turned away.

"None of your business," she spoke as she walked away pulling Selena along with her.

"Pfft"

His small chuckle soon turned to a booming laugh.

Colt could only laugh with a tone of mocking. He felt no disrespect in her actions rather he looked at her in disdain.

"Ho Ho, acting tough I see. Let's see how long you can put up with that act."

His lips arched with a devilish smile. His grin as if conveyed deeper meaning that was directed only to the receiver.

His devilish voice was enough to cause Shizu to stop in her tracks and shut her eyes tight in a pain that was not visible to the eyes of the audience. But she could only take a deep breath and move forward. It was still too early for her to be acting rash.

"Oh, by the way. I would be on stage this time around. I bet you are going to the theatre to watch the same. Hope you enjoy the show," Colt shouted, forming a cone with his hands as he screamed loud enough for it to reach both of them..

But such a casual greeting had fallen like a bolt of lightning to the frozen girl.

Shizu turned around and squinted her eyes.

"What?"

She couldn't believe his words.

'Wasn't Benton supposed to show up on the stage?' she thought, 'he must be lying to cause trouble for me.'

The shock that he had just received vanished into thin air as she believed it to be a lie. It was no longer enough to stop her on her tracks. She had no more patience to bear him anymore.

With a harrumph, she turned around and disappeared into the stadium. But a thought kept plaguing her mind.

'Is what he is saying true?' she couldn't help but worry as she bit her lips. The 'What ifs?' were weighing down on her soul.

The implications of the 'Showdown' wasn't just a show or a battle to show the newbies a difference between strengths. It had a much deeper purpose.

'If what he says is true it would needlessly complicate things.'

The challenger who participated in the showdown was more or less the leader of the generation. The strongest of them all. It was not only a declaration to the newbies but also to the second gen as well to show who was prospering more than others. It was a way to show them that joining whose faction would be for their best of interests.

Of course, other than the person in question superior strength their backing also came into play. What was the point of being a little stronger than the others if only they would be overtaken soon after? Surely a larger guild can spend more resources than one of smaller standing.

But not only Benton's strength but his backing was also irrefutable! The Sun guild was one of the strongest in hell. Had it not been the case Benton wouldn't have been able to cause such a large scale war in the future.

Benton was indeed the sole de facto of their generation till now with his power a tad higher than the others. He too would be the one who would be reaching the level cap first.

'But the difference in power between Colt and the others is not too much. It's really small and can be met with good weapons. Colt's standing is not as strong among us.'

The second gen could have accepted Benton as their leader but would they be willing to accept Colt? Or would they be raising their weapons against him?

"I am not sure what this is going to end up to…"

Being the weakest of her generation she didn't have much of a say in the matter, but she couldn't help with worry. When the time comes she would have to take a side if she wanted to survive this ordeal but her political situation makes her stand more sensitive than the others.

This was the very reason she had chose to attend the camp ahead of others despite being denied.

*sigh*

"Let's confirm it first," she whispered to herself hoping for 'the worst' to never become a reality.

But in hell, such prayers had always met the deaf ears.

The event that was supposed to be a simple exhibition of strength was getting more and more complicated with every passing moment.

Whether Colt was acting really foolish or really smart? She didn't know.

Whether Benton was scheming something behind all of this? She had no idea.

All she wanted was for her blissful once in a lifetime vacation to not be ruined. Indeed, for the people of hell who were used to living in danger at all times, the newbie drill was like a vacation to be enjoyed with memories to be cherished.
