Chapter 22,Part 1: — Purchasing - Clearly a large-scale survival program!
Lin Cheng and Lin Momo first went to the Xilin market that the landlord’s wife mentioned.
Because the road leading to Xilin Market prohibited three-wheeled vehicles from entering between 10:00am to 5:00 pm, the father and daughter could only choose to travel by bus.
“We can also walk over,” Lin Momo whispered.
When Lin Cheng was looking at the stop signs just now, she counted, and there were only 5 stops from their place to Xilin Market.
2 yuan for 2 people makes 4 yuan, and they could save this 4 yuan.
Lin Momo’s mind was full of small calculations.
But in the end, Lin Cheng’s words successfully made Lin Momo shut up.
“If I don’t take you, we can save 4 yuan back and forth,” Lin Cheng said solemnly, throwing a glance at the girl.
Lin Momo: “…”
Seeing Lin Momo’s devastated face, at an angle that the little girl couldn’t see, Lin Cheng smiled.
Bus 386 came, and the father and daughter got onto it.
The cameraman who was following them kept a certain distance and got into the bus after them.
The cameraman was dressed in ordinary clothes, and the camera was camouflaged in the sports bag beside him.
Therefore, other passengers in the car did not notice that this was recording a program.
But watching this pair of good-looking father and daughter get into the bus, many people still looked at them a few more times.
“Those two over there are father and daughter?” A girl on the back of the bus whispered to the girl beside her.
“They should be. They look very like each other, and that father is so handsome,” the girl on the left agreed.
“Daughter is cute too,” another girl echoed. She pointed to Lin Momo and said, “Look, the little girl is holding on to the corner of Dad’s coat tightly, is she afraid of falling?”
“Come on, looks so cute!”
“Very cute,” the girl on the left nodded—however, she didn’t know if it was her illusion, but seeing the little girl holding on to the backseat with one hand and her father with the other, with a ‘serious’ look on her face, coupled with her looking at her father’s movements from time to time, why does it feel like the daughter is afraid that it’s her father who might fall?
… …
The girls didn’t know that the ‘cub taking care of dad’ situation was usual and the audience watching the Lin family livestream has already gotten used to it.
It was obvious these three girls did not recognize Lin Cheng and Lin Momo.
In front of the computer watching the livestream, Wang Xi breathed a sigh of relief.
“Brother Cheng and Lin Momo shouldn’t have been recognized, right?” As she spoke, Wang Xi smiled and said, “Thinking about it this way, low exposure and low popularity aren’t completely useless.”
Wang Xi recalled what happened to Bai Yulin this morning. Bai Yulin himself had a large fan base from the beginning; that plus the livestream of the program and the broadcast of the trailer and episode, the Bai Yulin father and daughter directly gained a large number of fans.
This morning, Bai Yulin was supposed to go to the vocal school’s classroom to teach, but before the class could even start, fans were already crowded inside and outside the classroom and in the corridors, and the vocal class turned into an impromptu concert!
Mixed with the enthusiastic applause and cheers from the fans, Bai Yulin wasn’t able to hold class normally.
Comparing the two, the advantage of not being famous suddenly made itself known.
Hearing Wang Xi’s words, Chen Yu squinted at her, shook his head and said, “Not necessarily.”
This week—apart from Lin Cheng who had picked the [Buns Vendor] card—Duan Bei’s group with the [Telephone Customer Service Operator] occupation should be regarded as the poorest family after Lin Cheng’s.
However, Duan Bei was very popular. Within 5 minutes of leaving for work, he met 7 ‘kind passers-by’ who were willing to give them a ride; 8 people who praised the cuteness of the child and gave them candy and biscuits; 9 who recognized him as an ‘old classmate’ and wanted to take them out for a meal; and 11 selling brand-name clothes, toys, and snacks at roadside stalls for only 5 yuan…
All of a sudden, Duan Bei team’s transportation expenses, food expenses, snack expenses were covered… They were even able to get new clothes.
Not only that, but Duan Bei’s job was a customer service agent. In addition to the guaranteed salary, there was an extra pay calculated according to the number of successful calls he made.
After the program group ‘accidentally’ captured the name of the customer service company Duan Bei worked for and the operator number, his phone rang off the hook. It took only two hours to meet his quota for the day, and all the rest were in excess for a normal day.
Among the 5 family teams, Lin Momo was probably the only one who really wanted to make money by selling buns and complete the week’s task.
… …
Lin Momo was still seriously thinking about how big their steamed buns should be and how much they should sell for.
Hearing the bus announcement, Lin Momo tugged at Lin Cheng’s sleeve and reminded, “Dad, we’ve passed this stop. We’ll get off at the next stop.” She had kept count.
The corners of Lin Cheng’s mouth twitched slightly at Lin Momo’s words: How worried is this kid about me?
“I know,” Lin Cheng replied, a little gloomy in his heart. “Stand up properly, don’t fall,” he reminded.
“Okay.” Lin Momo added, “Dad, you too, hold on to this side, that side is too shaky.”
Lin Cheng: “…”
… …
The bus arrived at the stop; Lin Cheng brought Lin Momo off the bus.
The two walked to Xilin Market. It was a wholesale food market that covered a very large area. There were 70 or 80 shops, large and small, that could be seen when you entered the market. There were so many storefronts bustling with life that it made people dazzled—customers walking to and fro, people stopped in front of the stores, shop delivery boys carrying large and small boxes of goods.
Standing at the entrance of the huge wet market, Lin Momo looked confused—she had prepared a one and a half page procurement strategy with confidence, but the situation on the spot made her dumbfounded.
Lin Momo subconsciously tightened her hold on the corner of Lin Cheng’s clothes.
Noticing Lin Momo’s small movements, Lin Cheng thought that Lin Momo was afraid of getting lost, so he told her, “Follow closely, don’t get lost.”
Lin Cheng took Lin Momo into the market.

Footnotes
The text doesn’t say it outright but this scene only makes sense if Lin Momo and Lin Cheng were standing inside the bus—not seated. So she’s holding on to the handle on the back of the seats (which she can reach) with one hand and clutching her dad’s coat with the other… worried he might stumble haha.
