Chapter 5: First mission [1]

Chapter 5: First mission [1]

"Feast for I present you The Forgotten Sage the deity of magic and one of the most feared deities in the world of trial," Morris was presenting his newly created character to none other than his editor

[Editor: Jin Kurenai]

"Go on..." He conjoins his hands and eagerly awaits the details containing his formulated character sheet

"His intelligence is unmatched, and his wisdom when it comes to magic is seen to be a miracle," He looks back to his editor yawning and he begins to scroll down in his sheet to explain more about his character

"He was rumored to even possess the power to match one of the greatest deities. A mysterious figure that's one of the primordial gods. Because of him magic was forever changed in his grasp," He continued his rambling whilst his friend/editor was listening to what came out of his mouth

"Stop!!! Don't even add that guy in your novel," Jin openly told him about his idea while he placed his palm on his forehead after he received a headache

"Why not I thought this character was great what's the problem?"

"For starters, this guy is too op. You're gonna make the readers expect that he'll be later added to the story. Why would you add another powerful deity if you're not gonna add him to the story? It'll only lead to a plot hole if this guy doesn't have any relation to the story why even mention him," Jin handed back the paper for the next chapter of his book

"Isn't this too much? You're saying that I should rewrite the whole plot?" Morris replied before he got barraged by another round of complaints

"You fucking idiot... your story has a lot of things it doesn't have. For starters, you haven't thought about the requirements to be an avatar. Make it so that every deity needs some compatibility with their chosen avatar just like the forgotten sage. His requirement must be a player who's knowledgeable in magic right? Make it so that he only wants to invite someone that fits his requirements," Jin persuaded him to change a part of the story plot to make it easier for them to operate

Back to the present

'With his suggestion, I was able to add that character without him being a part of the story. What requirements did I place on The Forgotten Sage? I made it so that only a beginner who's knowledgeable in magic would be interested not the average person can do,'

'They also need to have precise control of chantless magic and out of all that magic combination. Magic that uses two different spells that work perfectly well with each other I forgot about him since I only mentioned him once. I never thought that I was doing all of his requirements whilst I was busy leveling up,'

[What are you doing? You've been walking around aimlessly in the forest for an hour or two]

"I'm trying to find some magical herbs, I can use them to craft my potions," Morris replied to his question and continued to search for a while

[I suggest that you shouldn't try potions, casting magic and brewing potions are two different types of sorcery. Why not practice your magic instead I'll teach you how to brew potions once you've become stronger]

"Look, I know that you've been looking for an avatar for quite a long time. But I have to do this It'll help me get stronger, though these methods are quite dangerous. It's not like I have a choice," He kept on searching for some herbs, which made him lose his focus and drop a topic that made his deity suspicious

[How did you know that I was looking for an avatar? I've never uttered to anyone that im searching for a deity]

'Shit I blurted out my secret info, this guy is pretty casual to talk to I forgot that he's a deity. I have a ton of things I know about him let's pick the most accurate and easiest explanation,'

"Funny you've mentioned that I found out when I've read the basics of magic no one seems to realize. There was an invisible ink that's been hidden away by a certain type of magic and once I figured it out it was a paragraph about you. It said something about your need to search for an avatar," He used his memory to get away from the situation that might lead him to be suspicious

[Now that I think about it, I did write about it in the basics of magic that the GM requested for the new players eager to be a magician I wrote that as an Easter egg]

'Sigh, that was a close one I thought he might've terminated our contract. I need to be cautious about what I say in front of my deity, if not, then I might get in trouble,'

[Pretty clever you are!! What shall I call my avatar?]

"Why are you asking something so obvious? I've read about you guys aren't you able to see through our stats?"

[It's rude to snoop around on someone!! Just because I can doesn't mean that I should. While we're talking how about you tell me your name? Isn't it tiring for you? Looking for herbs what about a mission? I can give you a better reward]

"I'm Christoper Morris," He bowed when he introduced himself

[Nice name... I shall call you Morris, how about it, do you want a mission? Just say the herb's name and I'll give it to you as a reward when you've finished a mission]

'This guy... he didnt even budge. I guess acting ignorant wouldn't work in my favor. If thats the case then might as well,'

"Can I handle your mission? I'm still at level 4 you know? It's easy for me to die," Morris announced his level which didn't affect his deities decision

[it's easy all you need to do is kill a "few" goblins. It's not that hard, isn't it? I'm only asking to you kill a "few" of those pests]

'Why is he using air quotes? Also goblins, just a "few" of them? It feels a little shady but it's better than lurking around the forest. It's gonna be fine let's accept this I can get my herbs without any problems. Plus if this guy is the same as I designed I can get a ton of resources and skills,'

"I'll do it!! Give me the mission it's just a few goblins right? Then what's there to worry about," His cheerful expression suddenly disappeared from his face as soon as the message popped in front of him

[The Forgotten System:

Mission: Kill 100 goblins by yourself any kind of strategy is permitted

Reward: Any kind of magical herbs ×10

Failure: Once 3 days had passed, you've killed 100 but you had some help, dying in the process]

'Oh right... This guy is a lunatic!!! How did I forget about this important design, I can't ask him to lessen the required number, or else he will just increase it. How is this hard? Let me give you a brief explanation for a secret event only a level 10 and below can take part in,'

'The 100 Goblin challenge is a way for newbs to easily get some early progression at the start of my story. Killing 25 goblins will spawn a goblin mage killing 50 will spawn a hobgoblin and a goblin mage. Killing 75 will spawn 2 goblin mages and 1 hobgoblin and I haven't mentioned the worst part oh no,'

'What will happen if I kill a hundred of these green-skinned fuckers? Talking like theirs a fourth wall really helps with my mental health altogether. Now where was I? Oh right, killing a hundred will spawn 4 goblin mages 2 hobgoblins, and 1 goblin King, and all 7 of them are at LVL 10. The worst part is that a goblin king will be accompanied by 20 or more normal goblins,'

"I'll accept it," Without any time for him to relax, he starts to search for a goblin camp

[System: You've accepted a mission

Time limit: 3 days before it disappears]

'Even if it's hard the reward is too good to pass up I can get "any" kind of magical herb that exists. Although I'm restricted in the things I can get due to the balancing of this world's laws I can make it. A way for me to easily memorize and strengthen my memory with just a little sip from Remembrance. For now, let's go back to sell these items I got from the butcher and the ogres once I found a goblin camp,'

[I'm looking forward to what you may do in this mission. Even if it's hard you can get a lot more if you know which kind of herbs you're going to choose. By applying any, in the text, you might acquire a mythical grade or above if you know their name. Kekekekeke]

After a long day of scouting for a goblin camp, he managed to find one. He wasn't sure how many they were, but based on the screams from afar he was certain it was a nest. The screams of men and women allured him until he saw a horde of goblins making their way to the entrance of their home. With that information, his certain they'll have enough if they have something they can use as their mate. With that said and done, he goes back to the city and heads to the same shop to visit the old man he met not so long ago

"Welcome to the shop how may I help— Holy shit!! What happened to you? Your clothes are all tattered and you have blood from top to bottom?" The merchant was stunned after he met the same player with such a horrid figure and a demeanor close to death

"It's a long story. Can I sell some items here? What's this? Sorry, I don't have any money in my pocket," He was handed some spare clothes and a durable black cloak

"You better be grateful since I'm giving this to you for free. Kids these days are always focused on leveling up... what are you going to sell? It better be something good or I won't buy it—"

"This is the butcher's signature weapon the bloody butcher, it may look like a rusted heavy sword. Apart from looks, it has 30 attack power & 50 on durability and it has a skill called pierce. A skill that makes the blade much sharper for one minute. I'll sell this to you for 80 tokens," He said before entering a room to switch between his tattered clothes to the clothes given to him

"Are you sure about this? There might be some other place that can give you a hefty price,"

"I'm not an idiot old man, I know this robe can give me some extra stats. This is me telling you that I don't want to leach on you, there's no telling what you'll ask if I owe someone like you a favor,"

"So my intentions were unraveled by a newbie...? I guess it can't be helped... keep the robe, and I'll give you 100 tokens for your weapon. My appraisal wasn't wrong, you've become an avatar right? That's the only guess I can think of since you're here with this in your hands. You're still here? I guess you want to continue buying in my shop?" Even after openly revealing his true intentions he notices the newbie browsing his shop

"I need a couple of items can you arrange them for me?" He hands out a paper with a list of items

"A tent? Are you perhaps given a mission?" The merchant's question was answered by a single nod

"Three days I'll be back for three days, if not then I failed. I hope to see you again... I wish you all the luck in the world, Agni the apprentice of Naze," He uttered those words as soon as he left the merchant's shop

'I should start preparing everything... Agni Felgir is the side character known as the incarnation of greed. A merchant known in every part of the world, but what makes him deadly is his past. He's the only person that's taken in by Naze a powerful ranker and will later join the story. I already anticipated that bastard to be in the starter city, he's the same as I've written him to be. A kind senior that has a heart for the newbies even though that fucker will kill anyone else in a heartbeat,'

[The Forgotten System:

Mission: Kill 100/0 goblins by yourself any kind of strategy is permitted

Reward: Any kind of magical herbs ×10

Duration: 70 hours: 59 minutes: 33 seconds]

"Hehehehe, if I survived this place then it might be enough to get him on my side,"
