Chapter 88 The Devil's Letter
When Liam woke up, he found himself lying on the ground. He had been bandaged from head to toe and was staring blankly at the ceiling.
A few seconds passed before he began to smile lightly.
"How embarrassing," He mumbled.
"What's embarrassing?" A voice rang out from the left. Looking over, he saw that Felicia was also lying on the ground not too far away from him. She was still tired from tending to the injured and thus chose to sleep a bit as well. Liam's voice woke her up.
"Forget it," Liam just said, earning a frown from Felicia. Her frown quickly turned into a pout as she turned her head in the other direction.
"How long was I asleep?" He asked, but he didn't receive an answer. The only noise he heard was a 'hmpf!' as Felicia turned her back toward him.
Liam raised his eyebrow at her reaction. But instead of commenting on it, he lifted his upper body from the ground and sat up straight. It was a bit painful but he was mostly doing fine now. His high Vitality stat promised a fast healing process as well.
Liam also noticed that his Arcane Power was refilled once again.
There were also two holographic notifications that attracted his interest.
[The Host's Stamina increased.]
[The Host's Will increased.]
In fact, there were a bunch of more holographic screens that attracted his attention. This included the reward he was given for conquering the underground tower.
Now that he thought about the underground tower's name, Liam felt like a fool and had the mad urge to beat the shit out of his sister. That meant, everything was the usual, except the fact that his sister had fooled him a bit.
[The Host's Customized reward for raiding the Underground Tower『Liam's Playground』can be claimed.]
"Claim rewards!" Liam announced, gritting his teeth when he saw the name of the underground tower once again and realized how his sister had tricked him.
He got up from the ground as his rewards materialized in front of him. A letter, a black ticket, and a fist-sized white, semi-translucent marble formed in front of him.
Liam tore the black ticket apart before paying attention to the letter and the marble that looked oddly familiar.
[+183 Arcanium have been rewarded.]
The amount of Arcanium he had received was much higher than expected, but he had the highest contribution in the whole team. He was not far off from Jennie, whose contribution was high from finding various valuable treasures. This was also added in the completion rate of a Tower raid because it was one of the most important things to take into consideration.
For the others, this might be important to know, but Liam was more interested in the letter he had received. It was written in the tongue of the Devils, and the header clearly read 'Dear "BIG" Brother Liam,'. That clearly indicated that his little sister had written that letter for him specifically.
Considering that the underground tower's name was already this unique, Liam was not really looking forward to reading the letter but he did it, nonetheless.
[Dear BIG Brother Liam,
How are you? I hope you are close to death and your gut is spilling out of your stomach.
The Shedim Champion astonished you a little, didn't it? After Mother sealed your strength to send you over to Haltan shortly before the Arcane Apocalypse was initiated, I knew that you would be even weaker than usual. Thus, the Shedim Champion was my present to you.
If you're reading this, you must be alive and the Shedim Champion must be dead. Mother's Relic is probably in your hand as well by now and you might have seen the useless mine as well. The Arcania is really annoying, forcing me to reward you with something other than Arcanium. Use the mine and die biting into the Saphirate crystals. I genuinely hope that you die painfully.
Or just wait until we meet again. Mother said that we don't have to hold back anymore. I can finally kill you, removing the useless blotch from our family's history forever.
Be happy as long as you can…because I will find you, and make you suffer for ruining our family's reputation with your mere existence.
You should have never been born.
Not so kind Regards,
Dutchess Lira(Your Grim Reaper]
When Liam finished reading through the letter, he fell silent for a moment. He re-read it once again and nodded his head slowly.
The moment he knew that Lira sent the letter, Liam knew what would be mentioned. At least that was what he thought.
He was mostly right as well because most of the comments made by Lira were something he had heard ample times in person too.
There was no surprise in that regard.
However, what surprised him were two particular facts.
Lira mentioning their Mother's Relic and a Saphirate Crystal Mine were both rather unexpected comments.
He didn't really understand what exactly they meant, which is why he turned to the others who had been resting as well.
"Did anyone already enter the Reward Hall?" Liam asked while brushing his fingers over the smooth surface of the cool orb he had received from his reward.
The Natives seemed extremely tired, and they didn't really feel happy either. Watching Liam's fight against the Shedim Champion Boss showed them quite clearly that their strength was insignificant.
Even Liam had only barely managed to escape a bunch of attacks by a hair's breadth.
This was a lot for the Natives to digest.
There was also Ludwig's death that still weighed on their minds. Life was frail and they might die at any moment.
"We have yet to enter the Reward Hall," Olivia said, biting her lower lip, "We're not sure if we have found and turned off all the traps…and didn't–...."
Liam didn't allow Olivia to finish her sentence.
"You were to scared to die, squashed by a boulder or something like that, I get it. Don't bother explaining your feelings to me."
Liam hinted at Ludwig's death without any qualms. He didn't really think much about Ludwig anymore. In fact, it could have been quite dangerous to fall asleep while Ludwig was still alive.
That idiot was too arrogant and he was likely to trigger some hidden self-destruction trap that would have obliterated the entire underground tower with them inside, burying them alive.
Liam could do well enough without Ludwig.
As for the others, they had to cope with his death sooner or later.
More deaths would inevitably follow, after all!
