Reverse Apocalypse: The Devil's Revenge

Chapter 60 Destruction

While the others around him were still struggling to finish their battles, Liam collected and sold the corpses of the Lesser Demons. His selling price was not noteworthy and it was more than enough for buyers to empty their pockets a bit to meet the small demand other races had for the Lesser Demons.

Liam didn't care what the customers were doing with the Shedim corpses as long as he got his money. That was all he needed!

"I am dead," Kian cursed the moment the final notification of his last kill emerged in the corner of his eyes. Olivia, Ludwig, and the others were already sitting on the ground, panting heavily and their mouths wide open to breathe in as much air as possible.

All of them were soaked wet in their sweat that seemed to trickle down their backs and temples in rivulets and they could hardly hold back from collapsing on the ground and staying there.

Contrary to the last two days, Liam didn't lead the battle. For the first time in their lives, they had to fight these treacherous Lesser Demons, whose appearance was enough to cause nightmares, and they had already been forced to kill them in masses.

Even if they could understand that Liam wanted them to learn from the experiences they had in the midst of fights, it was not exactly easy to learn something while one was trying to survive desperately. After all, their lives were on the line and a single mistake would render them unable to rectify it, ever!

The only reason why they didn't say anything to Liam was that they could clearly tell that his words and actions were not the same. Even if he said that he wouldn't teach them and that he would let them die, Liam helped them indirectly, killing a few of the stronger Mutant Elite Shedim whenever it was obvious that they couldn't handle the huge numbers of opponents alone.

Liam didn't act as if he was bothered by the ducklings' gazes. They lingered on him as they were trying to figure out who the real person behind Liam's facade of cool and obnoxious self was. It was hard to understand him, but one could roughly gauge a few of his personality traits. All in all, the natives were certain that he was a good person, no matter what his outer appearance and attitude suggested!

Liam finished collecting the corpses before he started his research of the eight hallways. The hallways were constructed in the exact same way. That was at least what one could tell at the first glance. In reality, things were a little bit more complicated as every single hallway was dotted with a few unique traits.

One of the hallways was longer than the others, another one had a slightly different pattern upon the left wall. Another hallway was constructed out of the reinforced version of the basalt rocks and there were a few more hints that suggested subtle and tiny changes. It was not possible to see these minuscule differences in the hallways when simply walking from one hallway to another without being able to focus on observing the surroundings completely.

Of course, Liam wouldn't be able to detect all changes under normal circumstances, either. What made a big difference for him was the fact that his Soultrait was unleashed right from the moment he started his research of the hallways. His Devil's Eyes enhanced his eyesight, and his detection of Arcane Power and it was much easier for him to remove useless information that his eyes took in.

Means of distractions were simply ignored and the obvious, yet inconspicuous changes were slowly unveiled, one after another.

His Arcane Power was slowly consumed but that was perfectly fine. He was done with his research before the Arcane Power within him had dried out completely. As for the areas in the hallways that looked different, Liam had marked them with scratches to identify them later.

Now that he was standing in front of the long hallway, Liam was probably supposed to search for some key, lever, button, or some other object to open a hidden door that would lead them down to the second basement. However, Liam was not actually interested in playing according to his sister's rules.

He retrieved the Keychain of Miniature Tools and used his last bits of Arcane Power to enlarge the mining pickaxe. Without giving his sister's petty tricks a second worth of his time, he began to strike the mining pickaxe against the basalt wall, hammering and pounding on it to destroy every single spot in the eight hallways that looked different.

He wanted to make a big fortune from his little sister's underground tower, after all! The more he could plunder from her creation, the more frustrated his sister would end up. At the same time, he would be able to make a fortune. Wealth and annoying his sister, since he couldn't kill her right now, were the two most pleasant things he could think of.

His little sister would never deliberately hand over something of value to him if she could avoid it. If someone were to force her hand over a Relic, the Relic would probably end up being something that could hardly be used by the majority of the people. This made things a little difficult, but Liam was not really picky when it came to hoarding treasures.

Everything rare could be sold at an appropriate price as long as he found the right customer.

His sister would never voluntarily give someone anything, which was also why Liam had been pretty sure that she would use petty tricks to hide treasures, or turn treasures into something that would be considered trash by most people.

Unfortunately, his sister didn't seem to have expected that Liam would get his hands on a different type of Soultrait than the one he possessed before. Otherwise, she would have hidden the treasures with much more thought and tact.

A few hours passed in the blink of an eye and the natives had gotten some well-deserved rest. Liam's Arcane Power was also mostly refilled but sweat trickled down his temples as he returned to his group with a bunch of items in his hand.

The students had only heard Liam creating a loud commotion in each of the hallways, and now that he was done, he came back with a total of seven items.

He pointed toward one of the eight hallways with a small satisfied smile on his face.

"The staircase leading to the second basement is in this hallway!"
