Chapter 139 Goals
At the end of the day, Olivia, Felicia, and Jennie came.
Felicia seemed a little out of it, but she grasped a small marble-sized crystal tightly as if her life depended on it. She stared blankly at it for a few seconds before she tested out the communication crystal.
After Felicia figured that it was rather unproblematic to talk to her parents through the communication crystal, she was relieved.
They left the Dojo and made their way to the next destination.
"Once we reach Sila City, and find Jennie's parents, I will create the Kikal Tonic. This will take a few days because some ingredients within the Kikal Tonic need to ferment, while others have to rest for two days before they can be processed.
That means we will stay a few days in Sila City. You can make your decision, whether you want to eat the Kikal Stalks as well, or if you don't want to take them. For the records, it will be very dangerous."
Liam's voice rang through the ears of the small group around him. Everyone was focused on something else, and they merely listened halfheartedly to Liam
Felicia was focused on the communication crystal, Olivia was trying to improve her Arcane Power control, while Jennie and Hellen were talking, trying to figure out the best way to combine the utility of their Soultraits.
This was very important for the two women because they felt useless as combatants. Thus, they wanted to be useful when it came to discovering danger in the form of traps and finding treasures. As long as they went out to conquer any kind of ancient construction, they would be able to find and remove all traps, and find all kinds of treasures.
Of course, this was not as easy as it seemed in the first place. To discover all kinds of traps, Jennie had to change her mindset. Her Soultrait allowed her items which Jennie determined as treasure in her mind. Armaments and Ornaments were naturally imprinted in her mind as treasures.
However, the same couldn't be said about traps. But that was exactly the point. As long as they could us Hellen's Soultrait, Traps could also be considered treasures. By dismantling them, Hellen could not only remove the threat of the trap, she could also collect the resources with which they had been created.
But there was more!
Hellen would receive an influx of information for every trap she dismantled. She would instinctively know how to assimilate the trap once again, and information about unique ways to use it.
That way, their group could not only be secure while raiding towers and other ancient constructions, but Hellen would be capable of protecting them by installing traps around their shelter.
Liam felt that as long as Jennie could consider traps as treasures, her and Hellen's teamwork and efficiency would increase drastically. They would be a miraculous duo everyone wished to have by their side.
Adding Felicia's Truth of Arcanium Soultrait into the duo to prepare for all types of possibilities when raiding an ancient construction, their group was bound to complete the raid successfully.
That was also why Liam was quite happy that Felicia stayed by their side. She was not only a pretty decent combatant, considering that she never really fought and murdered anyone before the Arcane Apocalypse began, but her Soultrait was also unique in a way that he had never encountered anyone with a similar Soultrait.
Her Soultrait required the Arcane System, or rather Arcanium as a medium. Arcanium was used as a tribute in order to receive something as an equal exchange.
It was similar to a Divination-type Soultrait, but at the same time, it was kind of different.
And then there were Derek Hael's [Swordgale Aura] and Olivia's [Weaponry] Soultraits. Right now, both were not able to use their Soultraits to the full extent, but Liam could tell that they were slowly getting better.
'Is he going to put his Soul as collateral to regrow his arm?'
Thinking about Derek, his gaze turned over to the young man, whose mind seemed blank as he followed the others.
'I would probably do it. With the Kikal Tonic and the enhancement in strength we will receive, it won't be impossible to hunt 1st Circle Monsters. Their corpses are worth a fortune, and it won't be a problem to earn 500 Arcanium in a month. Though, it's his decision. Being in debt is always a mental situation that makes some people feel tingly and extremely uncomfortable.'
Liam wouldn't hesitate to jump into a huge debt as long as it allowed him to get stronger in an instant. With the increase of his strength, he would inevitably be able to hunt faster and more efficiently, which means that he could earn more Arcanium by selling the hunted monsters' carcasses. The investment would definitely be worth it, and if he was too bothered about the debt, he would just pay it back as quickly as possible.
There was not actually a problem with that.
On their way out of the Golden City, they encountered a few monsters. Liam fought by himself, but he also allowed Olivia and Derek to learn a little bit more about their Soultriats by pressuring them a little with the number of monsters they had to face at the same time.
At the same time, he forced Jennie to fight a little as well. She was only in possession of a crossbow and a pouch with crossbow bolts. Liam was not sure if she had abandoned all other types of weapons, or if she would pick up a close-combat weapon in the future, but she was definitely abandoning close combat for the time being.
While that was not further problematic, Jennie had no weapon to protect herself once monsters entered her proximity. She could only use the crossbow body to block some attacks, but that would destroy the crossbow, her only means to kill her opponents.
'She will figure out what to do. It's not like Jennie is braindead.'
Felicia and Hellen began to fight as well. Felicia was still a little absentminded but she was easily distracted from the tide of the battle.
She was in dire need of the distraction. After all, she chose to leave her parents and follow Liam and Olivia. This was not because she liked them more than her parents Her reasoning was different.
Felicia felt like she had to become stronger, not only for herself but for others as well. It was very important for her to increase her strength because that was the only thing she could rely on in order to survive.
Strength determined the hierarchy in the new world, and her parents didn't want to accept that. Her father was trying to create a shelter where everyone could hide and live for the rest of their life. However, who was going to protect the shelter?
One had to be strong to protect the shelters, which meant that one had to throw themself into masses of monsters over and over again. In fact, even if one wouldn't seek monster groups to increase Arcanium, it would be important to travel around and seek opportunities to claim more treasures and ways to increase your stats.
Her parents didn't really understand that yet, but Felicia did. She knew that by staying next to Liam, she would have to face countless perilous situations, with each of them providing a high possibility of death. However, at the same time, she would gain experience and countless opportunities to increase her stats, claim treasures for herself and become powerful enough to stand up for herself.
Even if she were to die, Felicia didn't think that she would regret following Liam.
The others' thoughts were similar in the core, though they differentiated in certain regards.
Derek hated his weak self. He clearly recalled when Liam had towered above him asking him if he wanted to die.
Hellen wanted to protect herself. She wanted to make sure that nobody could touch her, and that if anyone dared to do so they would fall over dead.
As for Jennie, Olivia, and Felicia, they had all their own reasoning to become stronger.
However, one of the motivational factors that connected the three of them was their desire to protect their family. They wanted to gain the needed strength to survive the Arcane Apocalypse and to protect the people they loved dearly.
It was obvious that they would have to be next to the people they loved in order to protect them, but it was not as if their current strength was even close to the goal they had in mind.
With their current strength, they couldn't even protect themselves.
They had to rely on Liam to survive, and they still had to rely on him. His helping hand was always reaching out for them, ready to kill the monsters that were too bothersome to kill.
Liam joined the battle as well, but he didn't focus on killing. He tested out a few new things which he never had the time to experiment in the past.
A membrane of Arcane Power shrouded him tightly. It provided a thin layer of protection and the mean to increase the sharpness of his claws. It also pushed away the air around him, drastically decreasing the air resistance around him.
That was something Liam always wanted to learn, but he had never been able to do it because his Soultrait in the past had been a little bit complex. In fact, his Soultrait in the past was the reason why he had such a delicate control of Arcane Power within him, while the Arcane Power outside his body was rather crude.
The Soultrait in his past was [Body of Origin], and it sealed his Arcane Power inside his body while enhancing his physical strength drastically.
Thus, he was forced to turn into a close combat warrior, one way or another.
But that had now changed!
