Chapter 130 Isla
09:30 am!
It's the time for the event.
When Arthur and the other students exited the classroom, they encountered quite a number of outsiders, who were probably local residents and representatives of certain groups.
There are also students aged 11 to 15 years. They were junior high school students near this high school. It seemed their teacher required them to watch it, perhaps to increase their insight.
Arthur saw Carla and Bella at the door of Class A. The two girls immediately rushed to him. The former was quite calm while the latter smiled playfully.
"Arthur, you ready, right?" Bella asked, not even mincing words how his name got there. She immediately asked because she knew that he already knew about it.
Arthur didn't answer because the man he was going to fight, Cale, suddenly walked out of his class, followed by his gang.
He couldn't help but stop in his tracks when he saw Arthur together with Carla and Bella. Recalling the things of a few days ago, his lips twitched for a moment.
"Ah, right, are you ready?" He suddenly asked a similar question to Bella, looking like he just remembered about it.
From his expression, it might have something to do with why his name was listed.
Arthur also found Carla's expression like she was annoyed the moment she saw him.
Before Arthur could answer she said "let's go!"
She grabbed Arthur's hand and took steps to tug at it, a sight that made Cale's expression darken.
"Tsk! Tsk!" Bella chuckled at the man before following them.
Leo, the tall student who was Cale's close friend knit his brows as he said, "I suddenly feel like that guy has no worries at all, or could it be that he knows how to argue?"
"Impossible," Cale replied instantly. "Even if he has some hidden merits, I'm sure arguing isn't one of them, it's just not what people like him are good at. I'm sure he'll be confused when I ask his opinion of mine."
Cale was full of confidence, that he could humiliate Arthur on stage later, but his words still seemed to make Leo hesitate. He didn't have any deep hatred for Arthur, so he was still quite rational in his thinking.
Nova who was sitting in her chair by the window knit her brows when she heard Cale and Leo talking.
There was something that made her feel strange, she suddenly felt like she was not happy with them even though she had been good friends with them, and even studied together quite often at her house.
However, she quickly denied that it was because of Arthur. She was sure she was just displeased with such a cunning plan.
___
There are rows of seats in front of the stage. Even though there weren't enough seats for everyone to sit, students who took part in the event were allowed to sit in those chairs.
"Arthur, that man kept provoking yesterday so I had no other choice but to agree on your name and he seems to be asking the teacher for help to make you his opponent" Carla said as she followed Arthur.
She who knew Arthur well knew that he wasn't someone who was good at arguing and she thought it was still the same even though he had lived the life in the other world, so she was a bit worried and felt guilty.
Arthur glanced at her then sat down in one of the chairs. When Carla sat down, he patted the girl's palms and said, "what's there to worry about, if I can't beat that brat in a debate, I'll just have to throw him off the stage."
"No kidding," Carla replied.
"I'm not kidding," Arthur replied.
Bella was intrigued by his words, so she asked, "are you really going to do something like that?"
It was easy for Arthur, and he could do it without being seen. However, this is a bit too underhanded.
"Yeah, but that's not going to happen!" Arthur didn't change his expression as he said that even though he had previously said he would no longer refer to himself as a Great Magus if he lost an argument to a student like Cale.
That's not a lie, of course.
However, he didn't really care. If he lost in an honest way, he could still do a certain trick.
Losing the title of Great Magus didn't matter at all to him as long as it wasn't his strength that was lost.
One by one, students from various classes came. There was even a group of students who brought cameras to record the event.
On stage, a teacher who specializes in electronics is testing the sound system.
It didn't seem to have any problems even though the equipment used was the old one.
When all was ready, he nodded to the other teachers.
Finally, the principal who was an old man who should have retired stepped onto the stage. He looked excited and happy as he looked at the students below the stage.
Picking up the microphone, he cleared his throat.
"My beloved students, time is really short and soon I will have to say goodbye to some of you again. Even though I experience this every year, I still can't shake the sad feeling of parting." He started his speech, something he seemed to really enjoy as he kept trying to lengthen his speech even though it made some of the students sleepy.
Fortunately, he still knows how to limit himself.
After clearing his throat again, he said, "Now, let's start the event. This time, the program is more interesting because the one who will be the moderator is our proudest alumni."
He glanced off the side of the stage, at a woman in her early 20s, looking like a university student.
Her beauty cannot be overstated, definitely inferior to Carla and Bella. However, she looks very mature with short brown hair plus a professional white dress.
Her appearance surprised the students who knew who she was.
"Well, maybe there are some of you who don't know yet," continued the principal.
"She is Isla, an alumnus of our school who is in her third year at Harvard University, and also the co-chair of its Executive Board."
Getting into Harvard isn't exactly special for this school, but being co-chair of its Executive Board is a different case.
It may not prove that she is smarter than the others, but it at least proves that she is better at politics.
